We estimated spatial hierarchal variances and age-group covariances for seroprevalence to Leptospira interrogans serovar hardjo (LeptoH), bovine viral-diarrhea virus (BVDV) and bovine herpesvirus type 1 (BoHV-1) among 2343 cattle from 72 properties sampled in the State of Paraíba, Brazil in 2000. From each property, eight animals in each of the four age categories were evaluated. The age categories studied were: pre-weaned (0–6 months), young (7–18 months), replacement (19–30 months) and mature (>30 months). Overall seroprevalence to LeptoH was 16.0% and showed clustering at all levels of the spatial hierarchy and had a high posterior probability of being negatively correlated between replacement and mature groups within herds. Seroprevalence to BoHV-1 was 46.6% and demonstrated very little clustering among levels of the spatial hierarchy and was positively correlated between young and replacement groups within herds. Seroprevalence to BVD was 22.2% and was strongly clustered within herds and was positively correlated between young and replacement age groups within herds.  相似文献

Three experiments were performed to test if the time and storage conditions of milk samples, the preheating of samples in a water bath, as well as the carryover effect in laboratory analysis equipment could affect the pregnancy-associated glycoproteins (PAG) levels, and consequently the results of a pregnancy test. The pregnancy test used in both experiments uses the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay method to measure the concentrations of PAG and classify the samples as pregnant, nonpregnant or suspicious. As a result, PAG levels showed no variation when the samples were analyzed up to 9 days after collection, whether stored in ambient temperature or refrigerated. The preheating of the samples in a water bath and prior to the analysis of SCC and composition also did not affect the levels of PAG, allowing the same sample used in the quality analysis to be used for the pregnancy test.  相似文献

A 6‐week growth trial was conducted to evaluate the effects of feeding rate on growth performance, body composition, plasma metabolites and enzyme activities, and to determine the optimal feeding rate for juvenile Brazilian sardine. Fish were fed at six feeding rates, 2, 4, 6, 8, 10% BWday?1 (body weight per day) and until satiation (10.3% BWday?1). The survival of fish fed at 2%–6%BWday?1 was significantly higher (p < .05) than the survival of fish fed at the other feeding rates. The final body weight and specific growth rate significantly increased (p < .05) with increasing feeding rates while feed utilization decreased. Total proteins, cholesterol and triglycerides concentrations increased significantly with increasing feeding rates; however, there was no significant effect on glucose levels. Body protein and ash contents were not affected by the feeding rates. Whole‐body lipid content increased significantly as the feeding rate increased, while moisture content had an opposite trend. Proteases and amylase activities significantly decreased with increasing feeding rates, while lipase activity was not influenced by the feeding rate. Our results suggest that low feeding rates stimulate mobilization of metabolites to supply energy for the maintenance of overall metabolism and digestive enzyme activities increase to enhance feed utilization. The optimum feeding rate of juvenile Brazilian sardine based on PRR as determined by the second‐order polynomial regression was 5.45% BWday?1.  相似文献

Pine pitch canker (PPC), caused by Fusarium circinatum, affects Pinus species worldwide. Although no effective solutions have yet been found to control it, there is a growing interest in using biological control agents (BCA) such as Trichoderma to avoid the application of chemical-based products. Using species with an increasing level of susceptibility to PPC (Pinus pinea, Pinus pinaster and Pinus radiata), this study aimed to evaluate the effect of Trichoderma viride pre-inoculation on disease development, assessing several physiological and hormonal parameters. A 2-week period elapsed between T. viride and F. circinatum inoculation. Sampling for each species was performed independently when at least 50% of the plants of one of the inoculated groups developed disease symptoms. Fusarium circinatum infection reduced water status and photosynthesis, but increased proline, abscisic acid and jasmonic acid concentrations in plants of P. radiata and P. pinaster with symptoms; while in P. pinea water relations were maintained and anthocyanin accumulation occurred in the presence of F. circinatum. In P. radiata, T. viride pre-inoculation accelerated disease progression, with some PPC-induced responses augmented (decreased water potential and photosynthesis; increased substomatal CO2 concentration) and novel changes not found in seedlings inoculated exclusively with F. circinatum (increased electrolyte leakage and salicylic acid; decreased relative water content). This suggests that T. viride may be initially recognized as an invading organism, subverting the plant defence mechanisms for successful root colonization. If seedlings are not allowed to recover from this state, pathogen infection may thus be facilitated, highlighting the importance of application timing in BCA strategies.  相似文献

The common snook (Centropomus undecimalis) is a protandric hermaphrodite fish that has potential for aquaculture due to its high value and market acceptance. One of the difficulties to its reproduction in captivity is that females are older and bigger than males. The objective of this study was to use 17‐β oestradiol (E2) hormone implants to induce sex inversion in adult males. Fish with an initial body weight of 383 ± 83 g (mean ± SD), individually tagged were used in the experiment. Four E2 dosages (n = 7) were tested (0.5, 1.0, 4.0 and 8.0 mg   kg?1) in Ethylene‐vinyl‐acetate (EVAc) implants, and a control group (n = 7) implanted without hormone. The parameters evaluated were: survival, weight gain, hepatosomatic and gonadosomatic indices (GSI and HSI) and plasma levels of testosterone (T) and 17‐β oestradiol (E2). Also, liver and gonad morphology was observed through histological sections. GSI was higher in E2 treated than in control fish. All E2 treated fish had completely developed ovaries with oocytes at the perinucleolar stage, while all fish in the control group remained males with evidence of active spermatogenesis. After 15 days, plasma levels of E2 were correlated with the hormone dosage. T levels in the control group were higher than in E2 treated fish, at all sampling times. In conclusion, 0.5 mg   kg?1 of E2 in EVAc implants is effective to induce sexual inversion in common snook males, which could be useful to obtain broodstock females smaller than in the wild in a reduced time.  相似文献
