Despite a slight reduction in the level of acidic deposition in Norway, acidification of lakes and rivers continues. The Norwegian Liming Project (1979–84) demonstrated that lime treatment can be an effective measure against acidification of watercourses given appropriate adaptation to local conditions. Liming in Norway is difficult because of (1) large amounts of precipitation, (2) short retention time of lakes, and (3) episodic changes in water chemistry. In 1988 NOK 14 mill. has been allocated to operational liming and research. We report here on chemical and biological responses from lime treatment of a lake, a river and a catchment. Lake Store Hovvatn was limed in 1981 and successfully stocked with brown trout. Before reliming in 1987, fish growth had ceased, but increased post liming. The River Audna has been continuously limed since 1985. Sea trout fisheries have improved, and the stocking of Atlantic salmon smolts at the mouth of the river in 1986 has already resulted in the return of spawners. Liming of the entire terrestrial catchment to the pond Tjønnstrond in 1983 by helicopter was also successful; stocked brown trout have survived to the present.  相似文献

In hatcheries, the adequate supply of live feed has a vital role in feeding fish larvae, fry and fingerlings. Furthermore, the enhancement of the nutritional quality of live feeds is well‐developed techniques in aquaculture. Essential fatty acids (EFA) such as docosahexaenoic acid (DHA; C22:6 n?3), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA; 20:5(n?3) and arachidonic acid (ARA; 20:4(n?6) and amino acids are an essential source of proteins for larval rearing of fish. However, the common practised live feeds used for the primary feeding such as rotifers and Artemia are naturally deficient in essential nutrient components. Hence, the improvement of the nutritional quality of live feeds with different oil emulsions and commercial diets, and manipulation of the feed are necessary for fish production. The production protocols of copepods, Moina and fairy shrimps as live feed are still underdeveloped in hatcheries. The different lipid sources using for the enrichment of Artemia and rotifers are not effective on other live feeds, especially copepods and cladocerans (Moina, Daphnia) and fairy shrimps. This review focuses on the importance of live feeds by the techniques of feed enhancement or enrichment of zooplankton by direct incorporation of nutrients for feeding of early stages of fish.  相似文献

To elucidate whether absorption and deposition of dietary astaxanthin are influenced by the use of different dietary fish oils having different melting points and fatty acid profiles, triplicate groups of individually labeled Atlantic salmon (initial average weight 569 g) were reared in 2 m2 tanks, supplied with saltwater. The fish were fed four different experimental diets coated with either herring oil, capelin oil, sandeel oil, or a Peruvian oil high in polyunsaturated fatty acids. Salmon fed diets containing Peruvian high PUFA oil had significantly higher (13%) fillet carotenoid content than salmon fed herring oil (P<0.05). Astaxanthin retention was significantly higher (P<0.05) in salmon fed capelin and Peruvian high PUFA oil than in the two other groups. The effects of dietary oil supplements on carotenoid deposition were rather small and require verification. Redness of fillets and blood plasma astaxanthin levels did not differ among treatments. Liver weights, body weights, as well as specific growth rates, and feed conversion ratios were unaffected by dietary oil source. Significant (P<0.05) positive linear relationships were found between final fillet idoxanthin concentration and total saturated fatty acids in supplement oils, astaxanthin and total monounsaturated fatty acids, and redness and total n−3 fatty acids, whereas the relationships between redness and total monounsaturated fatty acids and astaxanthin and total n−3 fatty acids were negative.  相似文献

Feed intake, growth and carotenoid pigmentation in 1 + Arctic charr, Salvelinus alpinus (L.), of the Hammerfest and Svalbard strains were studied in fish reared in either separate or mixed groups for 11 weeks.
Hammerfest charr grew faster than charr from the Svalbard strain at the group level. The slower overall growth in the Svalbard strain was accompanied by greater variability in feed intake and growth rates than observed amongst the fish of the Hammerfest strain. The higher incidence of bite marks amongst the Svalbard chart suggested that aggressive encounters were more frequent amongst fish of this strain. No significant differences were observed in muscle carotenoid concentration. There was, however, a highly significant positive correlation between muscle carotenoid concentration and weight gain for individual fish of both strains, irrespective of whether the fish were reared separately or in mixed groups. Estimates of muscle carotenoid retention varied from 78 to 96 mg g−1, but there were no differences between strains or between fish reared in single or mixed-strain groups.
There were no differences in muscle carotenoid composition between strains or between fish reared in separate or mixed groups. Astaxanthin and idoxanthin, a metabolite of astaxanthin, were present in approximately equal proportions, and made up about 99% of the muscle carotenoid content.
The results of this study suggest that flesh pigmentation and its variability may be profoundly influenced by the level of social interactions, mediated through effects on feed intake and growth. These effects may mask genetic variations in the capacity to deposit carotenoids.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to identify the effect of growth, size and season on the flesh quality of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Following smoltification, two groups of size sorted 0+ and 1+ smolts (four treatment groups in all) were measured for body weight and length in January, June and October 2002. The fish were stored on ice for 4 days before filleted and samples taken for flesh colour, fat/dry content, end pH, gaping score and texture shear force. Large fish upon smoltification grew faster during the first year at sea, while smaller fish grew faster during the second year at sea, resulting in similar weight at slaughter. Season showed the main influence on quality, where fish slaughtered in October had harder texture, higher fat content and redder colour compared to previous samples (P < 0.05). There were only minor differences between the fish slaughtered in January and June (P > 0.15). No significant differences (P > 0.05) were detected as an effect of size or smoltification age when effects of season were accounted for in the statistical model. We conclude that the observed variation in quality was an effect of changes in growth with season. We recommend that actions aimed to halter growth prior to slaughter could be an effective control measure to reduce seasonal quality variations.  相似文献

A significant increase in the occurrence of red stripe (caused by Acidovorax avenae subsp. avenae) has been observed in the last decade in Argentina. Considering that no extensive sampling of the main sugarcane-producing area in the country has been conducted to characterize the diversity and population structure of A. avenae subsp. avenae, molecular markers were employed to analyse 112 isolates from Tucumán. By using repetitive element polymorphism-based polymerase chain reaction (rep-PCR) almost all isolates were differentiated and grouped into 10 clusters, revealing a high genetic diversity. Using the amplified fragment length polymorphism (AFLP) technique, five pairs of isolates were discriminated that could not be distinguished with rep-PCR. Cluster analysis showed no clear association between isolate clustering, sugarcane host genotype, crop age, type of tissue sampled, fertilization, or year of sampling. Linkage equilibrium analysis by using rep-PCR data indicated that the population has some degree of clonality. Three housekeeping genes were also sequenced: ugpB and pilT sequences were highly similar to A. avenae subsp. avenae sequences from other Argentinian isolates, whereas the lepA sequence did not reveal significant similarity. An additional four housekeeping genes could not be amplified, suggesting the existence of differences in those regions. Subsequently, virulence of 14 A. avenae subsp. avenae isolates was evaluated under controlled conditions. Results showed a differential level of aggressiveness among the isolates on a resistant sugarcane variety. This study confirmed that rep-PCR is an adequate tool for genetic analysis and population structure characterization in bacteria, and revealed both high genetic diversity and clonal population structure of A. avenae subsp. avenae in Tucumán, Argentina.  相似文献

Total aggression and individual behavioural traits of equal-sized juveniles of farmed Atlantic salmon Salmo salar L. selected for five generations in the Norwegian Breeding Programme for Salmonids and a wild strain originating from the River Rauma, Norway, were compared in pure (10 fish) and mixed (5 + 5 fish) groups. Total aggression was defined as the sum of the following five offensive behaviour patterns: intentional movements, lateral display, frontal display, charge and bite. Experiments were carried out in 2-m2 tanks with either a grey fibreglass substrate (pure and mixed groups) or diagonally divided into a fibreglass and river cobble substrate (mixed groups only). In mixed groups kept on a fibreglass substrate, the aggressive behaviour directed by wild salmon towards farmed salmon was more frequent than the reverse (84.2 and 27.0 aggressive acts h–1, respectively, P < 0.025). Total aggression was not significantly different between wild and farmed juveniles in tanks with divided substrate. The aggressive behaviour of wild and farmed salmon was significantly increased when kept in tanks with fibreglass substrates (437%, P < 0.005, and 296%, P < 0.05 respectively). Pure groups of either wild or farmed salmon kept on a fibreglass substrate exhibited similar frequencies of total aggression (85.7 and 101.6 0 aggressive acts h–1, respectively, P > 0.1) and single behaviour patterns. The aggressive behaviour of farmed offspring was not influenced by vertical distribution in the tanks with a fibreglass substrate. Farmed salmon tended to position pelagically (78%) and used the water column more frequently than wild salmon (19%), whereas wild salmon hid more. It is concluded that social interactions among groups of juvenile Atlantic salmon are influenced by substrate.  相似文献

The moving bed biofilm reactor (MBBR) was developed in Norway in the late 1980s and early 1990s. It is covered by several patents and has been a huge success world-wide for treatment of municipal and industrial wastewaters. In addition, MBBRs have been successfully used for biological treatment of drinking water as well as for water treatment in fish farms. The MBBRs use plastic biofilm carriers of a unique design, to maximize the active biofilm surface area in the reactors. Reactors have insignificant headloss, no need for periodic backwashing and no susceptibility for clogging. This paper describes the fundamentals of the MBBR. It has a major emphasis on nitrification with the type of biofilm carrier used in fish farms, but briefly touches upon removal of organic matter and denitrification. Major factors influencing the nitrification rates in MBBRs are discussed in detail. Results from small-scale MBBR tests, as well as from commercially operated MBBRs at full scale fish farms are presented. The data are from both freshwater and marine applications.  相似文献

The different stunning methods for Atlantic salmon can still be improved with regard to animal welfare. Salmon exposed to carbon monoxide expressed no aversive reactions towards CO as such. CO exposed fish showed an earlier onset of rigour mortis and a faster decrease in muscle pH due to depletion of oxygen during the treatment. Exposure to CO did increase the level of cortisol compared to undisturbed control fish, but the increase was less than in the water only control group. Neuroglobin, a CO binding globin, was found in salmon brain and Saccus vasculosus, a richly vascularized sac connected to the fish brain. Binding of CO to neuroglobin during sedation might possibly improve animal welfare.  相似文献

Possible interactive effects of temperature and photoperiod on flesh quality in Atlantic salmon post‐smolts were studied. Juvenile (initial mean weight 96.0 g ± 3.1 SEM) Atlantic salmon were reared at six different combinations of temperatures (4.3, 6.5 or 9.3°C) and photoperiods (continuous light or simulated natural photoperiod). At termination of the trial, the fish were slaughtered and flesh samples taken to investigate quality and textural properties in the different experimental groups. Final weight in the six experimental groups varied between 174 and 345 g. Softer texture was seen in the fast growing groups. Photoperiod has only minor effect on flesh quality and textural properties, whereas temperature had significant impact on most of the measured variables. Although positive for growth, higher temperatures might be less favourable in relation to softer muscle tissue.  相似文献
