Published radiotherapy results for spinal nephroblastomas in dogs are limited. In this retrospective longitudinal study (1/2007–1/2022), five dogs with a median age of 2.8 years received post-operative 3D conformal, conventional fractionated radiotherapy (CFRT) with 2–4 fields (parallel-opposed with or without two hinge-angle fields), for an incompletely resected nephroblastoma. Clinical findings prior to surgery included one or more of the following: pelvic limb paresis (5), faecal incontinence (2), flaccid tail (1), non-ambulatory (2) and deep pain loss (1). All masses were located between T11 and L3 and surgically removed via hemilaminectomy. Dogs received 45–50 Gray (Gy) in 18–20 fractions, and no dogs received chemotherapy post-radiation. At analysis, all dogs were deceased, with none lost to follow-up. The median overall survival (OS) from first treatment to death of any cause was 3.4 years (1234 days; 95% CI 68 days-upper limit not reached; range: 68–3607 days). The median planning target volume was 51.3 cc, with a median PTV dose of 51.4 Gy and median D98 = 48.3 Gy. Late complications or recurrence was difficult to fully determine in this small dataset; however, some degree of ataxia persisted throughout life in all dogs. This study provides preliminary evidence that post-operative radiotherapy may result in prolonged survival times dogs with spinal nephroblastomas. 相似文献

Sisal fibers have one of the greatest potentials among other lignocellulosic fibers to reinforce polymer matrices in composites. Sisal fibers have been modified to improve their compatibility with phenolic polymer matrices using furfuryl alcohol (FA) and polyfurfuryl alcohols (PFA) that can be obtained from renewable sources. The modification corresponded first to oxidation with ClO 2, which reacts mainly with guaiacyl and syringyl units of lignin, generating o- and p-quinones and muconic derivatives, followed by reaction with FA or PFA. The FA and PFA modified fibers presented a thin similar layer, indicating the polymer character of the coating. The untreated and treated sisal fibers were characterized by (13)C CP-MAS NMR spectrometry, thermal analysis, and scanning electron microscopy. Furthermore, for a better understanding of the reactions involved in the FA and PFA modifications, the sisal lignin previously extracted was also submitted to those reactions and characterized. The characterization of isolated lignin and hemicellulose provides some information on the chemical structure of the main constitutive macrocomponents of sisal fibers, such information being scarce in the literature. 相似文献

Common sunflower (i.e., Helianthus annuus) is occasionally crossed with other Helianthus species to gain favourable agronomic traits. An interspecific cross between H. annuus and Helianthus mollis was used to examine events that occurred during the five first generations. First generation hybrid plants were verified using GISH, and F1 hybrid (#17) was back-crossed to common sunflower to obtain BC1 (#4) and BC2 (#21). Some BC2 progeny possessed new traits, i.e., compact (Compact plant architecture is due to short inter-node length, short petiole length and short leaf lamina length) architecture without and with corrugated leaves, which were not observed in the parents. These traits were selected for and fixed after the BC2-S3 (#18) to produce a H. mollis introgression line (namely HM374). Although the size of the population was small, we tentatively construct a genetic map using data from the BC2 generation. Two linkage groups were identified carrying H. mollis specific AFLP markers that were associated with compact plant architecture, and one unlinked marker was shown to explain variation for the corrugated leaves. Introgression line HM374 was used to test the inheritance of compact plant architecture in a cross with an elite high oleic line, OL75HO. Microsatellite (SSR) markers were used to genotype F1 and F2 offspring’s. Our data suggested that the line HM374 was still heterozygous for introgression after eight generations. HM374 displays new architecture traits (i.e. compact architecture with or without corrugated leaves) and carries H. mollis fragments anchored on LG1 and LG11 of sunflower public map. 相似文献

Highway detention ponds can fill with sediments from runoff water loaded with traffic-related materials. Sediment disposal is problematic and various protocols are currently studied, including phytoremediation. Here we present a preliminary study on four highway detention ponds in southern France to identify key sediment characteristics. Our objectives were to characterize metal content and physicochemical properties of the sediments and to evaluate the role of charophytes, which grow spontaneously in ponds, on metal lability. Vegetated and non-vegetated areas were compared. The lability of Mn, Cu, Zn, and Pb complexes was greater in the presence of charophytes. No variation in grain size composition was observed between non-vegetated and vegetated areas. These results may be useful to implement a phytoremediation strategy using those spontaneous charophytes. Our results suggest that local factors may impact sediment characteristics: for instance, strong gusts of wind, typical of southern France climate, may blow particles (some of them not related to traffic) in and out of detention ponds. 相似文献

Foliar analysis was undertaken in two plots of Picea abies (L.) Karst., located in a watershed of Haute Ardenne, Belgium, in order to estimate the decline of the trees. Apart from a general Mg deficiency, the concentrations of the needles were in the same range as those determined in other European stands. Comparisons between healthy and declining trees within each plot revealed a general pattern of decline similar to that observed elsewhere in Western Europe. This was shown as lower Ca, Mg, Zn concentrations and water content and higher N and P concentrations of the needles collected from declining trees. It is concluded that this decline could be due to N over fertilization by the atmospheric deposition. The difference of decline between the two plots was attributed to the turnover rate of the soil organic layer which was less intensive in the most damaged plot. 相似文献

Enteropathogenic Escherichia coli (EPEC) represents a major cause of lethal diarrhea in young mammals. Although the pathogenicity mechanisms of EPEC are now well understood, the intrinsic and environmental factors that control the expression of EPEC virulence remain largely unknown. In the rabbit, suckling reduces pups' sensitivity to EPEC infection. Hence, we have hypothesized that uncharacterized factors present in doe milk may mediate this protection. Medium chain fatty acids (MCFA), known to possess antimicrobial properties, are highly abundant in doe milk. We demonstrate that caprylic acid exhibits a clear bacteriostatic effect in vitro against the rabbit EPEC strain E22 (O103:H2:K-), in a dose-dependent manner. In vivo, the dietary inclusion of triglycerides of MCFA did not however reduce the sensitivity of young rabbits challenged with this EPEC strain. The mortality and fecal excretion of EPEC were not reduced, and the bacterial adhesion to ileum was not inhibited. Amount of MCFA reaching the ileal level might have been too low and/or their association to other milk antimicrobials may have been required to observe a positive effect on disease evolution in a context of a highly virulent challenge. 相似文献

Masitinib is the first veterinary drug recently approved in Europe to treat mast cell tumours in dogs (Hahn et al. JVIM, Masivet).
This inhibitor is selective and highly efficient in blocking c-Kit, PDGFR, and Lyn tyrosine kinase activities. It showed good
efficacy and acceptable toxicity in several animal studies such as mice, rats, rabbits and dogs (Dubreuil P, et al. submitted,
and Hahn et al. (J Vet Intern Med 22(6):8, 2008)). C-kit is a tyrosine kinase receptor that plays a critical role in the biology of mast cells including differentiation,
survival, migration and cytokine/mediator release. Mast cells are involved in a number of allergy-and immune-related diseases
in cats such as asthma (Reinero Carol et al. Vet Immunol Immunopathol 121(3–4):9, 2008), inflammatory bowel disease, (Janeczko et al. Vet Mic 128(1–2):15, 2008), and feline mast cell tumours (Rassnick et al. J Am Vet Med Assoc 232(8):1200–1205, 2008). Therefore, there might be a strong rationale to use masitinib in these indications. Here, we report the results of a preliminary
pharmacokinetic study of masitinib in cats which showed a good bioavailability of ~60% in both sexes. We propose that an oral

A 6-year-old miniature Shetland pony mare was referred for evaluation of a left corneal mass, which developed from the healing tissue of a corneal traumatic ulceration that had occurred 4 weeks previously. On gross examination, a spherical, smooth-surfaced, and pink-colored lesion of about 1 cm in diameter was protruding from the left palpebral fissure. Ophthalmic examination revealed that it was attached to the scar tissue of the cornea, and that one corpora nigra was adherent to the posterior face of corneal wounded area, without sign of uveitis. The remainder of the ophthalmic examination was unremarkable. The mass was excised, and cryotherapy was used as an adjunctive therapy. Histopathology of the resected mass was consistent with a pyogenic granuloma on the basis of radially oriented proliferating capillaries, embedded in immature granulation tissue containing an infiltrate of neutrophils, plasma cells and eosinophils. There were no histological features of malignancy. 2 months after surgery, the ventral part of the fibrotic corneal scar was slightly raised by a pink tissue, suggesting possible recurrence of the initial lesion. A second cryotherapy was performed over the leukoma area. No recurrence has been noted for a follow-up period of more than 25 months. Pyogenic granuloma is a benign proliferative fibrovascular response that typically develops after trauma or surgery. Corneal involvement is rare in humans, and to the authors' knowledge has never been documented in veterinary ophthalmology. 相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the seroprevalence of Neospora caninum antibodies and its effects on reproductive parameters in cows in intensive dairy herds in Dakar. Randomised blood samples
were taken for serology from 196 cows in four herds with a history of sporadic abortion. All of the sera were assayed for
antibodies against N. caninum, Candida guillermondii, Coxiella burnetii, and Chlamydophila sp. The associations between serostatus and reproductive parameters (abortion, number of inseminations to conception, and
calving to conception interval) were assessed over a period of 5 years (2004–2008). The seroprevalence of N. caninum antibodies in dairy cattle was 17.9%. The local Gobra breed and crossbreeds had higher levels of N. caninum antibodies than exotic breeds (p < 0.05). For the most recent pregnancies, seropositive cows required more inseminations to establish conception than seronegative
cows (p < 0.05). The results indicate that dairy cattle from Dakar are exposed to N. caninum. Neosporosis should, therefore, be systematically considered as a cause when the calving to conception interval is prolonged. 相似文献
