The total arsenic, inorganic arsenic, lead, cadmium, and mercury contents of 18 algae food products currently on sale in Spain were determined. The suitability of the analytical methodologies for this type of matrix was confirmed by evaluating their analytical characteristics. The concentration ranges found for each contaminant, expressed in milligrams per kilogram of dry weight, were as follows: total arsenic, 2.3-141; inorganic arsenic, 0.15-88; lead, < 0.05-1.33; cadmium, 0.03-1.9; and mercury, 0.004-0.04. There is currently no legislation in Spain regarding contaminants in algae food products, but some of the samples analyzed revealed Cd and inorganic As levels higher than those permitted by legislation in other countries. Given the high concentrations of inorganic As found in Hizikia fusiforme, a daily consumption of 1.7 g of the product would reach the Provisional Tolerable Weekly Intake recommended by the WHO for an average body weight of 68 kg. A more comprehensive study of the contents and toxicological implications of the inorganic As present in the algae food products currently sold in Spain may be necessary, which might then be the basis for the introduction of specific sales restrictions. 相似文献

Andosols are characterised by high organic matter (OM) content throughout the soil profile, which is mainly due to the stabilisation
of soil organic matter (SOM) by mineral interactions. The aim of the study was to examine whether there were differences in
the chemical composition of mineral-associated SOM and free OM in the top A horizon and in the subsoil (horizons below the
A11 horizon). Our experimental approach included the replicated sampling of a fulvic and an umbic Andosol under pine and laurel
forest located on the island of Tenerife with a Mediterranean sub-humid climate. We determined the extent of the organo-mineral
interactions by comparing the sizes of the light (free) and heavy (dense) soil fractions obtained by physical separation through
flotation in a liquid with a density of 1.9 g cm–3. We determined the elemental and isotopic composition of both fractions and analysed their chemical composition by analytical
pyrolysis. The elemental and isotopic composition showed similar values with depth despite the different vegetation and climatic
conditions prevailing at the two sites. Carbon (C) stabilised by mineral interactions increased with depth and represented
80–90% of the total C in the lowest horizons. The heavy fractions mainly released N-containing compounds upon analytical pyrolysis,
whereas lignin-derived and alkyl compounds were the principal pyrolysis products released from the light fractions of the
top- and subsoil horizons. Principal component analysis showed that the chemical composition of OM stabilised by mineral interaction
differs in the different horizons of the soil profile. In the A horizons, the chemical composition of this OM was similar
to those of the light fractions, i.e. litter input. There was a gradual change in the bulk molecular composition from a higher
contribution of plant-derived molecules in the light and heavy fractions of the A horizon to more microbial-derived molecules
as well as black C-derived molecules at depth. We conclude that transport processes in addition to decomposition and possibly
in situ ageing affect the chemical composition of mineral-associated OM in subsoils. 相似文献

The objective of this study is to evaluating the Brazilian biodiversity through physicochemical characterization and determination of antioxidant potential of three species from the Myrtaceae family, namely yellow guava (Psidium cattleyanum Sabine), guabiroba (Campomanesia xanthocarpa O. Berg), and uvaia ( Eugenia pyriformis Cambess). Guabiroba had the greater quantity of phenolic compounds (9033 mg chlorogenic acid/100 g) and vitamin C (30.58 mg/g) and showed the best TSS/TTA (total soluble solid/total titratable acid) ratio (45.12). For the ABTS (2,2-azino-bis-3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic) method, the guabiroba (507.49 μM Trolox/g) presented the highest antioxidant potential; however, in the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method, uvaia (170.26 g/g DPPH) and guabiroba (161.29 g/g DPPH) were not statistically different. The uvaia outranked the other fruits with respect to its high carotenoid (909.33 μg/g) and vitamin A (37.83 μg/g) contents, and the yellow guava, although showing a lower bioactive compound content and antioxidant activity, nevertheless presented much higher values than many traditionally consumed fruits. 相似文献

in North Africa. The aim of this work was to determine whether differences in ploidy level and/or nuclear DNA content exist
among populations from widely-separated sites in Tunisia. We determined nuclear DNA content and chromosome numbers for populations
of A. halimus from seven different locations (Gabes, Medenine, Tataouine, Monastir, Tunis, Sidi Bouzid, Kairouan). The chromosome counts
showed that all the Tunisian populations, plus a population from Eraclea (Italy), were tetraploid (2n = 4x = 36) whereas a population from Cala Tarida (Spain) was diploid (2n = 2x = 18). With respect to nuclear DNA, the 2C DNA content of population Cala Tarida was estimated to be 2.41 pg. There was no
significant difference among the tetraploid populations (or among plants within populations), whose 2C DNA content ranged

Litter decomposition is a major process in nutrient recycling, despite that few studies have considered this in soil fertility management. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of litter decomposition and its inoculation with the fungus Mortierella sp. on soil fertility parameters in Andisols cultivated with avocado cv. Hass. Litterbags containing avocado leaves either uninoculated or inoculated were distributed around the trees. As control litter was not allowed to accumulate on the soil surface. Eighteen months later soil samples were collected just below uninoculated and inoculated litterbags and control sites. Soil pH, potassium, calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, and boron significantly increased with litter and in some sites the increase was higher with inoculation. By contrast, soil aluminum, iron, and manganese were significantly lower in the presence of litter (uninoculated and inoculated), whereas zinc was significantly higher when litter was present. 相似文献

The development of simple predictors of sulfur (S) mineralization and its correlation with field-derived data may help improving corn S availability diagnosis. The objectives of this study were (1) to compare methods to estimate soil S mineralization, (2) to develop a model to predict soil S mineralization from S mineralization indexes and edaphic variables, and (3) to predict field-grown corn S uptake (Suptake) and apparent S mineralization (Smin-app) from different S mineralization indexes and edaphic-climatic variables. We evaluated 26 experimental sites where we measured edaphic variables as soil organic C (SOC), organic C in the particulate fraction (C-PF), S mineralization potential (Smin-10wk), S mineralized during a short-term (7 days) aerobic incubation + initial inorganic S (Smin-7d?+?Sinorg), and N mineralized during a short-term (7 days) anaerobic incubation (Nan). Additionally, 18 field experiments were carried out to quantify Suptake and Smin-app. The C-PF, Smin-7d?+?Sinorg, Nan, and SOC were variables significantly correlated with Smin-10wk (r?=?0.89, 0.89, 0.88, and 0.85, respectively). We developed a simple model to predict Smin-10wk from selected edaphic variables (Smin-10wk?=?0.038*Nan?+?0.106*SOC?+?0.74; Ra2 =?0.87). The Smin-10wk, C-PF, and Smin-7d?+?Sinorg showed a liner-plateau association with Suptake (R2?=?0.73, 0.53, and 0.48, respectively). We modified the method to estimate Smin-app to account for S losses (Smin-app (modified)) and developed a model to predict Smin-app (modified) from C-PF (Smin-app (modified)?=?4.65*C-PF?+?9.86; R2?=?0.62) or Smin-10wk (Smin-app (modified)?=?3.0*Smin-10wk?+?7.4; R2?=?0.54). The infection of stored apples by the fungus Penicillium expansum causes the contamination of fruits and fruit-derived products with the mycotoxin patulin, which is a major issue in food safety. Fungal attack can be prevented by beneficial microorganisms, so-called biocontrol agents. Previous time-course thin layer chromatography analyses showed that the aerobic incubation of patulin with the biocontrol yeast Rhodosporidium kratochvilovae strain LS11 leads to the disappearance of the mycotoxin spot and the parallel emergence of two new spots, one of which disappears over time. In this work, we analyzed the biodegradation of patulin effected by LS11 through HPLC. The more stable of the two compounds was purified and characterized by nuclear magnetic resonance as desoxypatulinic acid, whose formation was also quantitated in patulin degradation experiments. After R. kratochvilovae LS11 had been incubated in the presence of (13)C-labeled patulin, label was traced to desoxypatulinic acid, thus proving that this compound derives from the metabolization of patulin by the yeast. Desoxypatulinic acid was much less toxic than patulin to human lymphocytes and, in contrast to patulin, did not react in vitro with the thiol-bearing tripeptide glutathione. The lower toxicity of desoxypatulinic acid is proposed to be a consequence of the hydrolysis of the lactone ring and the loss of functional groups that react with thiol groups. The formation of desoxypatulinic acid from patulin represents a novel biodegradation pathway that is also a detoxification process. 相似文献

Chemical and sensorial changes related to the use of benzoates and ascorbic acid as additives in packed fermented vegetables were investigated. For this, three selected vegetables (green olives, cucumbers, and caperberries) stored under different conditions (glass or plastic containers, ambient or refrigerated storage) were used. In all cases, benzoic acid remained unchanged (glass bottle) or decreased slightly (plastic pouch) at prolonged storage. Ascorbic acid was partially or totally degraded during storage, the degradation rate depending on the storage conditions and the vegetable matrix. Benzene levels higher than 10 μg/L were found in cucumbers and caperberries containing both additives, but only when packed in plastic pouches and after prolonged storage at room temperature. In these conditions, an appreciable browning of brine, related to AA degradation, was also found. The use of benzoate alone had a significant influence on vegetable color, but flavor was not significantly affected at the benzoate levels tested. On the basis of the present study, benzoates should be removed from fermented vegetable formulations containing ascorbic acid to eliminate possible benzene formation during long-term storage. 相似文献

This study focused on the application of native strains of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and Sinorhizobium in effective crop production during reclamation of coal‐mine spoil banks. Two greenhouse experiments were conducted in spoil‐bank clay with a low dose of organic amendment to determine whether the microbial inoculation improves growth and utility qualities of two cultivars of Linum usitatissimum L. (oil and fiber flax). Inoculation with two native AMF isolates (Glomus mosseae, G. intraradices, and their mixture) significantly increased growth and shoot phosphorus (P) concentration of both flax cultivars. Inoculated fiber flax plants produced fivefold more fibers than the uninoculated ones. In oil flax, mycorrhizal inoculation significantly but quantitatively to a minor degree decreased the concentration of nonsaturated fatty acids in the seed oil. A mixture of five native Sinorhizobium sp. strains supported growth and P uptake of oil flax only in the absence of AMF. However, these beneficial effects of the bacteria were significantly lower as compared to AMF. No synergic action of Sinorhizobium strains and AMF was observed, and their interactions were often even antagonistic. Inoculation with AMF significantly decreased population density of Sinorhizobium in the soil. These results suggest that a careful selection of suitable bacterial strains is necessary to provide effective AMF combinations and maximize flax‐growth support. 相似文献

Several red wines were elaborated to assess the effect of the degree of grape ripening on wine color and on the levels of flavanol and anthocyanin compounds, which are chiefly responsible for the wine color attributes. Two different cultivars and three different degrees of ripening were studied in two consecutive years. The wines were aged for 1 year in American oak barrels of medium-high char followed by 6 months in the bottle. The results showed that the wines made from more mature grapes had generally higher free anthocyanin content, and during aging the decrease of the free anthocyanins and flavanols took place in conjunction with an increase in the levels of the anthocyanin derivatives or "new pigments", which are responsible for maintaining color intensity and adding violet hues in aged wines. From the results obtained, it seems to be clear that the characteristics and composition of grapes harvested later (7-8 days in this region and for these varieties) than the usual time are quite beneficial to obtaining quality aged wines. The phenolic composition of wines made from the last harvested grapes is mainly responsible for the stability of their color, which is extremely important in product acceptance with a significant increase hence of product quality. 相似文献
