A 10‐year‐old castrated male miniature dachshund was presented with an abdominal mass. The dog had a history of splenectomy. Triple‐phase helical computed tomography was utilized, revealing a hepatic mass and multiple intra‐abdominal solid masses. In triple‐phase helical computed tomography the images, hepatic mass and two of four intra‐abdominal masses were heterogenous in all phases. Therefore, we diagnosed a malignant hepatic tumor and presumed intra‐abdominal metastases. The masses were surgically removed and were histologically composed of normal spleen tissues, findings which were consistent with ectopic spleen. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Volatile compounds formed by photosensitized oxidation and autoxidation of cod liver oil were compared. A 5-mL portion of oil-in-water emulsion (10% oil, 1% Tween 20 and 0.1 mM of rose bengal or 0.1 mM of ferrous chloride) was sealed into a 50-mL crimp top vial. The vial with added rose bengal was exposed to a 100-watt tungsten bulb (6000 lux) in an oven at 40°C, while the vial with added ferrous chloride was wrapped in aluminum foil to shield light and kept in the same oven. Volatiles in the headspace of the vials were collected by solid phase microextraction technique and analyzed with a gas chromatography-flame ionization detector and a gas chromatography – mass spectrometry. Approximately 51 kinds of volatiles were identified from oxidation of cod liver oil. All the volatiles identified in the sample with added rose bengal were identified in the sample with added ferrous chloride, however, tremendous differences of their relative ratios were found, which probably is useful to explain the flavor differences between sun-dried seafood and mechanical-dried seafood. There are a number of reports documenting skeletal development in groupers, but surprisingly little is known about muscle development. We have documented muscle development in the seven-band grouper Epinephelus septemfasciatus (Thunberg), focusing primarily on the cranial muscles from 0 days post-hatching (dph) to 28 dph, using a modified whole mount immunohistochemical staining method. The eye muscles developed first followed by the cheek muscles, which completed development prior to first feeding. The muscles associated with the opercle and the levator internus 1 developed gradually and were not linked to first feeding. Later, between 12 and 16 dph, the muscle composition in the dorsal branchial arches changed to the adult form. We observed a number of cultured larvae that exhibited abnormal musculature in the body and jaw. Our results provide the first documentation of muscle development in larval seven-band grouper. This information can be used to detect abnormalities during development and provide a marker to assess the effect of changes in larval rearing techniques. 相似文献

ABSTRACT: Lipovitellin (Lv), the major yolk protein derived from vitellogenin (Vg), was purified from vitellogenic ovaries of Pacific saury Cololabis saira using hydroxylapatite column chromatography followed by gel filtration. The apparent native mass of purified Lv was approximately 420 kDa, while the tertiary structure of Lv revealed by sodium dodecylsulfate–polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis was typical of teleost Lvs, consisting of a heavy chain (∼99 kDa) and a light chain (∼34 kDa). Western blot analysis using rabbit antiserum raised against Pacific saury Lv revealed a specific reaction with a polypeptide (∼194 kDa) that is present in serum from female Pacific saury but not in male serum, suggesting the approximately 194-kDa polypeptide to be the Vg monomer. This study describes the first step toward the development of specific immunoassays for Pacific saury Vg, which will be an effective tool for monitoring the reproductive development of this species. 相似文献

To improve the nutritional quality of live foods and dry feeds ordinarily used for the seed production of amberjack Seriola dumerili, the nutrient contents of rotifers, Artemia nauplii and commercial feeds used in two larval production stations were evaluated. For comparison of the nutrient contents,
artificially produced larvae, wild-caught juveniles and wild zooplankton samples were also analyzed. The proportions of 22∶6n-3
in the polar lipid of the cultured larvae increased by feeding the dry feeds. The taurine contents of the cultured larvae
reflected the contents of their foods (rotifers<dry feed<Artemia nauplii). The taurine content and the proportion of 22∶6n-3 in Acartia spp. were higher than in foods fed to the larvae. These parameters in the wild juveniles were higher than the cultured ones.
The A/E ratios [(each essential amino acid/total essential amino acids)×1000] of the total amino acids of the live foods and
dry feeds were similar to those of the cultured larvae, except for the lower ratios of histidine, arginine, threonine and
lysine in the live foods. The mucosal folds of the intestine of the cultured larvae did not show typical signs of dietary
phospholipid deficiency. These results suggest that requirements of nutrients such as 22∶6n-3 and taurine should be determined

The effects that high levels of protein in concentrate feed has during the early fattening stage on physico-chemical composition and sensory characteristics of M. longissimus in Japanese Black heifers were investigated. Four sets (8 head) of identical twins of Japanese Black heifers were divided into two groups: a group fed high levels of protein in concentrate feed in the early fattening stage (HCP); and a control group. Moisture, fat, protein, cooking loss, Warner-Bratzler shear force and fatty acid composition of M. longissimus were similar in both groups. Levels of free amino acid (FAA), aspartic acid, glutamine, taurine and histidine were lower in the HCP group than in the control group ( P < 0.05). Levels of glutamic acid, serine, asparagine, threonine and total FAA in the HCP group tended to be lower than in the control group ( P < 0.1). There were no significant differences between the sensory characteristics (juiciness, tenderness, fattiness, flavor and overall acceptability) of the two groups. These results suggest that the use of high levels of protein in concentrate feed during the early fattening stage does not affect the sensory characteristics of Japanese Black beef, but does alter the FAA content. 相似文献

The scrapie prion protein (PrP27-30) is a crucial component of the prion and is responsible for its transmissibility. Structural information on this protein is limited because it is insoluble and shows aggregated properties. In this study, PrP27-30 was effectively dispersed using sonication under the weak alkaline condition. Subsequently, the small PrP27-30 aggregates were subjected to different pH, heat, and denaturing conditions. The loss of proteinase K (PK) resistance of PrP27-30 and prion infectivity were monitored along with spectroscopic changes. Prion inactivation could not be achieved by the loss of PK resistance alone; a significant loss of the PrP27-30 amyloid structure, which was represented by a decrease in thioflavin T fluorescence, was required for the loss of transmissibility. 相似文献
