The -purpose of this paper is to examine mainly the role of energy intake on early embryo development. It has been shown that reduced energy intake can alter follicle growth patterns whereby follicle size is reduced and animals will have more waves of follicle growth throughout the cycle. In addition several studies have shown that high concentrate intake prior to or during superovulation will lead to reduced follicular growth and poorer embryo quality in beef heifers. In addition embryos recovered from animals on lower intakes have a better capacity to develop in short term culture in vitro. With a model using ovum pickup and in vitro maturation, fertilization and culture, it has not been possible to demonstrate clearly if the nutritional damage occurs prior to or after fertilization. 相似文献

Multispecies swards, comprised of different plant functional groups have comparable production potential to high N input L. perenne swards at reduced N when legumes are included. However, information on the appropriate management of multispecies swards is limited. The effect of differing management practices on the herbage dry-matter (DM) production and botanical composition of different sward types was investigated using a 3 × 2 × 2 factorial design plot experiment. The experiment consisted of three sward types: L. perenne-only receiving (LP; 250 kg N ha−1 a−1); L. perenne-Trifolium repens (LP-TR); multispecies sward containing L. perenne, Phleum pratense, Trifolium repens, Trifolium pratense, Plantago lanceolata and Cichorium intybus (MSS). LP-TR and MSS received 90 kg N ha−1 a−1. Harvesting of plot herbage took place every 21 or 28 days to a defoliation height of 4 or 6 cm, over two growing seasons (March to November 2020 and 2021 inclusive). Annual herbage produced by both LP and LP-TR was not significantly affected by defoliation frequency. However, MSS produced 1923 kg DM ha−1 a−1 more herbage when harvested less frequently. Unsown species contributed significantly less to the herbage DM of MSS compared to LP and LP-TR and remained similar in 2020 and 2021, whereas the contribution of unsown species to herbage DM increased in LP and LP-TR from 2020 to 2021, with noxious species more associated with LP and LP-TR than MSS. Results demonstrate the role of multispecies swards in improving the sustainability of grass-based agricultural systems in an environment of reduced fertilizer inputs. 相似文献

One hundred and eight Texel sired lambs were weaned at 37 days old and allocated three days later to one of two treatments, using two pens per treatment, in order to evaluate lamb hepatic copper (Cu) values. In Treatment 1 (T1) the lambs were confined to pens having recycled plastic slatted flooring, while in Treatment 2 (T2) the lambs were confined to pens having straw bedded floors, with fresh straw added on alternate days. The lambs had ad libitum access to a coarse lamb concentrate. The crude protein (g/kg DM), crude fibre (g/kg DM), total zinc (mg/kg) and background levels of copper (Cu) (mg/kg) and molybdenum (Mo) (mg/kg) of the diet were 17.2, 10.9, 152, 9.7 and 0.92, respectively. The lambs were slaughtered when they reached about 39 kg live weight. Following slaughter, the liver was removed and weighed and the caudal lobe frozen for subsequent Cu analysis. The livers of lambs on the plastic floor treatment had higher liver weights (843 vs. 804 g, S.E.M. 11.0; P < 0.05) and higher hepatic copper (396 vs. 315 mg/kg DM, S.E.M. 18.2; P < 0.05) than those from lambs that were bedded with straw. The Cu accumulation per kg of liver DM per week was estimated to be 8.4 and 13.7 mg for lambs on the straw bedding and plastic slated treatments, respectively. It is concluded that when lambs are housed on plastic slatted flooring, relative to straw bedding, there is a higher accumulation of hepatic copper levels likely to result in a greater risk of Cu toxicity when lambs are reared on all concentrate diets. 相似文献

The production performance of herbage‐fed animals is affected by herbage voluntary dry‐matter intake (VDMI) and organic matter digestibility. The objective of this study was to determine the effect of herbage mass (HM) on in vivo herbage voluntary intake and digestibility in sheep. The three HM treatments were as follows: 1,100 kg dry matter (DM)/ha (low, L), 2,300 kg DM/ha (medium, M) and 3,700 kg DM/ha (high, H). The study was a Latin square design, repeated on two occasions in 2012: 24 May to 20 July (summer) and 21 July to 5 October (autumn). Twelve Texel wether sheep (individually housed) were offered fresh cut perennial ryegrass herbage for ad libitum consumption. Using the total faecal collection method, the digestibility of dry matter, organic matter, neutral detergent fibre and acid detergent fibre was determined. In summer, L had a similar VDMI to M and both had a higher VDMI than H. In autumn, L had a higher VDMI than both M and H. For dry‐matter digestibility and organic matter digestibility, there was no significant difference between L and M, which were both higher than H. For every 1% increase in neutral detergent fibre digestibility, VDMI increased by 0.03 kg. In the zero‐grazing scenario examined, offering low (1,100 kg DM/ha) HM swards enabled animals to achieve high intakes of highly digestible herbage, which should ensure high animal production performance. 相似文献

Complete genomes of four Newcastle disease virus (NDV) strains, isolated from ducks and wild birds in Guangdong province of China from 2003 to 2007, were sequenced and analyzed in this study. Pathogenicity tests in chicken embryos and chickens illustrate that D3 and R8 are lentogenic, and W4 and P4 are mesogenic strains. Phylogenetic analysis using all six genes provides a high resolution profile for genotype designation as genotype I for D3 and R8 strains and genotype VI for W4 and P4 strains. In addition, molecular dating based on different genes suggests that D3 and R8 diverged from their common ancestor at around 1998; W4 and P4 diverged from their common ancestor at around 1999. Subsequent selective pressure analysis displayed specific traits of genes evolution in all 4 strains since their divergence from the recent common ancestor. Furthermore, the geographic origins of 4 strains were deduced to be from Europe via two independent introduction events by phylogeographical analysis. Seasonal dynamics of in situ gross nitrogen (N) mineralization rates were measured using the 15N-NH4+ isotope dilution method in a Danish soil subjected to four different agricultural practices (set aside, barley, winter wheat and clover). Results were compared to arginine ammonification in the soil samples measured as NH4+ production following addition of excess (1 mM) arginine. In the set aside, barley, winter wheat and clover soils the average annual rates of gross N mineralization (0.29, 0.60, 1.34 and 1.75 µg NH4+-N g-1 day-1, respectively) and arginine ammonification activity (0.21, 0.55, 0.88, and 1.33 µg NH4+-N g-1 h-1, respectively) were well correlated. Furthermore, the seasonal variations of gross N mineralization and arginine ammonification activities were very similar, showing rapid responses to rainfall and generally higher activities in wetted soils. As tested in the laboratory, the arginine ammonification activity correlated well with heterotrophic microbial respiration activity (CO2 production) in soil samples and further displayed a simple, one-component Michaelis-Menten kinetics with a high affinity for arginine (Km value of 48 µM LJ µM) as determined from non-linear parameter estimation. This indicated that arginine ammonification activity was primarily due to microorganisms, and the activity was also shown to be at a minimum in sterile soil samples. All evidence thus supported that our standard assay of arginine ammonification activity provides a good index of gross N mineralization rates by the microorganisms in soil under in situ conditions. 相似文献
