The combined effects of four nitrogen (N) levels (0, 50, 100, and 150 μg/g soil) and six boron (B) rates (0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 μg/g soil) on the growth and chemical composition of Kale‐ghoochi, a cultivar of pistachio (Pistacia vera L.) semi‐tolerant to B toxicity, and Badami, a cultivar very sensitive to B toxicity, were studied in a calcareous soil under greenhouse conditions. The application of 20 μg/g B has beneficial effects on leaf growth of the Kale‐ghoochi cultivar. The toxic effect of B application greater than 40 μg/g on pistachio growth was alleviated by application of 50 and 100 μg N/g for Kale‐ghoochi and Badami cultivars, respectively. The rate of B accumulation in pistachio shoots was reduced about 39 % by N additions of 50 to 150 μg/g for Badami, and 24, 52, and 69% with N rates of 50, 100, and 150 μg/g for Kale‐ghoochi, respectively. Therefore, when pistachio is grown in B‐enriched soils and/or is irrigated with water of relatively high B content, it is recommended that the plants be supplied with adequate N.  相似文献

Due to the existence of gravelly soils and the lack of sufficient research on such soils, this study was carried out on a gravelly calcareous soil. Selected physico–chemical and hydraulic soil attributes were determined at 69 points on a nested-sampling design. Hydraulic characteristics including unsaturated hydraulic conductivity (K ψ) and sorptivity coefficient (S) at six applied tensions of 0 to 0.2 m, and sorptive number (α) and macroscopic capillary length (λ) at five applied tensions of 0.03 to 0.2 m were determined using a tension disc infiltrometer. Hydraulic and chemical soil attributes were the highest and the lowest variants, respectively. The maximum and minimum values for the coefficient of variation (CV) in all the measured physico-chemical and hydraulic soil attributes were obtained for α0.2 and soil pH, respectively. Minimum, maximum, mean and variance values of K ψ, S and α decreased as applied tension increased. Although the pattern was reversed for λ. The majority of soil attributes showed the spatial structure with dominant spherical and exponential models for physico-chemical and hydraulic attributes, respectively. Range values of semi-variograms were obtained between 4.6 m (for α0.03) and 211 m (for clay, gravel content and soluble Mg). In general, range values were 99.60, 82.05 and 40.2 m for physical, chemical and hydraulic soil attributes, respectively, indicating that the physical soil attributes influenced neighboring values over greater distances than the other soil attributes. This enables soil scientists to use measured soil physical data over greater distances to estimate attributes in the unsampled locations.  相似文献

AIM: To describe the pathology and inheritance of a congenital polycystic kidney disease (PKD) of sheep.

METHODS: Mode of inheritance of PKD was investigated by evaluation of results of the disorder from planned matings in two consecutive years within subsets of a flock that had a high prevalence of PKD in lambs. Gross pathological and histopath- ological studies were based on tissues derived from this study. Haematoxylin and eosin (H&E)-stained paraffin sections of kidney, liver, extrahepatic biliary and pancreatic ducts, pancreas and epididymis were used to describe the lesions.

RESULTS: Twenty-five lambs affected by PKD, of both sexes, were born, numbers in accord with those expected for an autosomal recessive disorder in the population studied. In all cases for which tissues were available, the renal, bile ductal (intrahepatic and extrahepatic), pancreatic and epididymal tissues had widespread dysplastic changes and associated cyst formation.

CONCLUSIONS: The findings of renal cysts in conjunction with cysts in other organs are unifying features in many of the human and animal forms of PKD and suggest a related pathogenic and genetic base consistent with an autosomal recessive disorder.  相似文献

Although substantial fecal shedding is expected to start years after initial infection with Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP), the potential for shedding by calves and therefore calf-to-calf transmission is underestimated in current Johne’s disease (JD) control programs. Shedding patterns were determined in this study in experimentally infected calves. Fifty calves were challenged at 2 weeks or at 3, 6, 9 or 12 months of age (6 calves served as a control group). In each age group, 5 calves were inoculated with a low and 5 with a high dose of MAP. Fecal culture was performed monthly until necropsy at 17 months of age. Overall, 61% of inoculated calves, representing all age and dose groups, shed MAP in their feces at least once during the follow-up period. Although most calves shed sporadically, 4 calves in the 2-week and 3-month high dose groups shed at every sampling. In general, shedding peaked 2 months after inoculation. Calves inoculated at 2 weeks or 3 months with a high dose of MAP shed more frequently than those inoculated with a low dose. Calves shedding frequently had more culture-positive tissue locations and more severe gross and histological lesions at necropsy. In conclusion, calves inoculated up to 1 year of age shed MAP in their feces shortly after inoculation. Consequently, there is potential for MAP transfer between calves (especially if they are group housed) and therefore, JD control programs should consider young calves as a source of infection.  相似文献

Our aim was to evaluate the effects of fish oil feeding on sperm classical parameters, level of reactive oxygen spices (ROS), spermatozoa death incidence and in vitro fertilization (IVF) rate in rams. We randomly assigned nine rams, into two experimental groups (isoenergetic and isonitrogenous rations with constant level of vitamin E supplement): control (CTR; n = 5) and fish oil (FO; n = 4, 35 g/day/ram). Diets were fed for 70 days during the physiological breeding season. After a 21‐day dietary adaptation period, semen was collected weekly from each ram by an artificial vagina. Sperm classical parameters were determined by the computer‐assisted sperm analyzer system (CASA), and it was prepared for IVF process by swim‐up technique. These evaluations were performed during the first and last weeks of sampling. Intracellular ROS level and spermatozoa death incidence were detected by flow cytometry on a weekly basis after adaptation. Data were analysed with SPSS 15. The volume, concentration (3.6 and 2.7 × 109/ml) and sperm progressive motility (60 and 48%) were significantly improved in the FO group compared with the CTR (p < 0.05). A comparison of two‐cell stage embryos following IVF in the two groups showed a significantly higher fertilization rate in the FO group (56%) compared with the CTR (49%). Superoxide anion (O2?) rate was significantly lower (p < 0.05) at the third week of sampling in the FO. Although the H2O2 rate was numerically lower in the FO group compared with the CTR, this difference was not significant. In addition, apoptosis showed a significant difference in the third week of sampling (15 and 30% for FO and CTR, respectively; p < 0.05). Overall, adding fish oil to the ram diet not only improved sperm quality and IVF results, it also could reduce oxygen‐free radicals and the incidence of spermatozoa death.  相似文献

Shortage of water is the most important limiting factor for crop production in the arid and semi-arid regions in Iran. More land can become productive by using partial irrigation at strategic times during the growing season. This may be accomplished if a proper index of crop sensitivity to water deficit at various growth stages is used. A theoretical procedure was applied to determine the savings in water and the economic benefit derived from partial irrigation, using a water stress sensitivity index for winter wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) and spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) in a dry region of Fars province in Iran. The results indicated that some water reduction is possible. In general, the suggested maximum allowable water reduction was unreasonably high for the sensitivity index (λ i ) proposed by Nairizi and Rydzewski. Their index is not applicable in arid and semi-arid areas. However, the field-derived λ i of Aryan resulted in a reasonable water reduction close to the field-applied water reduction to achieve a corresponding relative yield. Therefore, appropriate values of λ i for different climatic conditions should be used to calculate rational water reductions. The maximum allowable water reduction for spring barley was higher than that for winter wheat. The reduction increased as the benefit to cost ratio (B/C) was increased. Water reductions of 7 and 26% were allowed for winter wheat and spring barley, respectively, at a B/C ratio of 1.5. This corresponded to an 8 and 35% increase in cultivated area, respectively.
