The concentrations of mercury (Hg) and methyl mercury (MeHg) in sediment and tissues of Barbus grypus and Barbus esocinus fish species from Musa estuary, north part of the Persian Gulf, were measured. The order of Hg and MeHg concentrations in the sediment and tissues of the fish species was as follows: liver > gill > muscle > sediment. In the tissues of two fish species, the Hg and MeHg concentrations were highest in liver whereas lowest in the muscle. In the sediment, mean concentrations of Hg and MeHg were 0.83 and 0.437 µg g?1. Mean concentrations of Hg and MeHg in B. grypus were 1.2–0.624 µg g?1 and in all tissues of B. esocinus were 0.75 and 0.421 µg g?1. Significant correlation between heavy metal concentration in sediment and fish may be related to high variability of heavy metal in the sediment.  相似文献

Physico-mechanical and antioxidant properties of glycerol plasticized fish gelatin films were investigated at different levels of fish protein hydrolysates (FPH) from silver carp muscle (5, 10, 15, and 20 g FPH/100 g gelatin). The films supplemented with FPH, especially at higher concentration showed significant increase in 2, 2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH), 2, 20-azinobis-(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfnic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging, and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP), elongation at break, difference of color, water vapor permeability and opacity, while tensile strength, elastic modulus, L*, b*, and contact angle decreased markedly (p < 0.05). However, no significant differences were observed for a* and solubility of all samples (p > 0.05). Films prepared using 20% FPH had lower glass transition temperature and more homogeneous structure, compared with control film. Also, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy confirmed the increase of free groups of hydrolysates and lower interaction between chains of film incorporated with the highest content of FPH. Thus, these results indicate that FPH enhanced the antioxidant activities and affected some characteristics due to less interaction between gelatin and FPH.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to illustrate the effect of dietary taurine levels on Persian sturgeon, Acipenser persicus (mean weight of ~35 g) fed plant‐based diet. A basal diet containing low level of fishmeal (19%) was formulated containing 0.05% endogenous taurine (control diet). To this diet were added five levels of exogenous taurine: 0.25 (0.25T), 0.5 (0.5T), 0.8 (0.8T), 1.2 (1.2T) and 1.6% (1.6T). These diets were fed to the experimental fish for 42 days. Results showed that growth performance decreased and food conversion ratio increased as dietary taurine increased, although no significant difference was observed between the control and 0.25T treatments. Increased dietary taurine led to increased carcass moisture and decreased carcass lipid percentages. Feed intake was significantly and negatively correlated with dietary taurine. Carcass taurine content significantly increased with dietary taurine elevation up to 1.2% and then decreased. Hepatic taurine content showed a significant increase in 0.25T treatment and then decreased along with dietary taurine elevation and reached the control values at 1.6% taurine level. Dietary taurine elevation led to more hepatic damages compared to the control. In conclusion, although within the range reported for other studied fish, the tested taurine levels in this study might be supra‐optimal causing adverse effects in Persian sturgeon and further study with lower taurine levels is encouraged.  相似文献

In this study, total phenolic and flavonoid contents of grapefruit peel extract (GPE) were equal to 117.3 ± 0.3 µg of gallic acid/mg and 39.30 ± 0.1 µg of quercetin/mg respectively. Caspian white fish (n = 180, 4 ± 0.9 g body weight) was fed with supplemented diets, including 0, 6.25, 12.5 and 25 mg of GPE/kg for 60 days at 25 ± 1°C. The growth performance was markedly improved in fish fed with 25 mg/kg of GPE compared to others (p < 0.05). Moreover, fish fed with 25 mg/kg of GPE showed a significant increase in red blood cell (2.65·106 cell/mm3), white blood cell (17.75·103 cell/mm3), packed cell volume (48%) and haemoglobin concentrations (8.75 g/dl) compared to the control (p < 0.05). However, the highest alanine aminotransferase (140 U/L), alanine transaminase (14.5 U/L), and alkaline phosphatase (18.5 U/L) were observed in control group. Morphological analysis of intestine revealed the highest amount of villus width (8.4 µM), height (32.86 µM) and surface area (342.7 µM2) in fish fed with 25 mg/kg of GPE (p < 0.05). In conclusion, supplementing feed with GPE at 25 g/kg can improve growth performance and haemato‐biochemical parameters of Caspian white fish fry.  相似文献

This study was carried out to examine the effect of Artemia urmiana nauplii enriched with HUFA, and vitamins C and E on stress tolerance, hematocrit, and biochemical parameters of great sturgeon, Huso huso juveniles. Cod liver oil (EPA 18% and DHA 12%), ascorbyl-6-palmitate and α-tocopherol acetate were used as lipid, and vitamin C and E sources, respectively. Beluga juveniles at the stage of first feeding (69.7 ± 5.9 mg body weight) were randomly divided into five treatments and three tanks were assigned to each diet. All fish groups were fed non-enriched Artemia for the initial 5 days and then fed enriched Artemia for 7 days. Juveniles were fed with Artemia enriched with HUFA + 20% vitamin C (C group); HUFA + 20% vitamin E-enriched Artemia nauplii (E group); HUFA + 20% vitamin C + 20% vitamin E (C and E group); HUFA without vitamins (HUFA) and non-enriched Artemia (control). After the period of enrichment, Juveniles were fed with Daphnia sp. from the 13th to the 40th day. At day 40, the fish were transferred directly from fresh water (0.5 ppt) to brackish water (6 ppt for 4 days and 12 ppt for 2 days) and warm water (from 27 to 33°C) to evaluate juvenile resistance to salinity and thermal shocks. Moreover, all treatments were separately exposed to freshwater in tanks with the same capacity as used for osmotic and thermal tests (as fresh water control). The addition of vitamins C, E, and C + E to HUFA significantly increased fish resistance to 12 ppt salinity and temperature stress tests, whereas survival was not significantly different among challenges at 6 ppt. There was no significant difference in the hematocrit index under stress conditions. Enrichment had significant influence on plasma Na+ level in the C group on the 4th day at 6 ppt. Na+ and Ca2+ concentrations in C, E, and C and E groups on the 1st day at 12 ppt, and Ca2+ level in E group on the 2nd day at 12 ppt were lower than the other groups. The glucose level in the C and C and E groups was lower than the other treatments on the 1st day at 12 ppt and the 2nd day at 33°C. Regardless of Artemia enrichment, plasma ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, and Mg2+) and glucose concentrations in fish exposed to salinity stress tests were higher than fish in fresh water. Glucose concentration in plasma also increased after 2 days at 33°C. Although most of our results were not significantly different, the use of vitamins C, E, and HUFA in Artemia enrichment can improve Juveniles tolerance under stress conditions, and regardless of enrichment, these data show that beluga juveniles are partly sensitive to high salinity and temperature.  相似文献

Purpose

Prescribed burning is a forest management practice which can lead to nitrogen (N)-limited conditions. This study aimed to explore whether biological N2 fixation (BNF) remained the main source of N acquisition for two understorey Acacia species in a Eucalyptus-dominated suburban forest of subtropical Australia, 3 to 6 years after prescribed burning. Root-nodule bacteria associated with these acacias were also characterised to unravel the differences in rhizobial communities between sites and species.

Material and methods

Two sites, burned 3 and 6 years before sample collection, were selected within a dry subtropical forest of south-east Queensland, Australia. Leaves were collected from individuals of Acacia disparrima and A. leiocalyx at each site to determine leaf total carbon (C) and N content, C and N isotope composition (δ13C and δ15N) and the percentage of N derived from atmospheric N2. Nodules were harvested from both acacia species at each site to isolate root nodule bacteria. Bacterial isolates were processed for 16S rDNA gene sequencing.

Results and discussion

Generally, no differences were found in plant physiological variables between the two acacia species. Six years after the fire, both species still depended upon BNF for their N supply, with a higher dependence in winter than in summer. Fire, although of low intensity, was likely to have created a N-limited environment which induced the reliance of legumes on BNF. Root nodule bacteria were dominated by non-rhizobial endophytes, mainly from the Firmicutes phylum. No difference in nodule bacterial diversity was found between sites. The relative abundance of rhizobial genera varied amongst plant species and sites, with a shift in dominance from Bradyrhizobium to Rhizobium species between sites 1 and 2.

Conclusions

Our results show that even 6 years after burning, ecosystem remained under N stress and BNF was still the main mechanism for N acquisition by the understorey legumes.

Purpose

Fast and real-time prediction of leaf nutrient concentrations can facilitate decision-making for fertilisation regimes on farms and address issues raised with over-fertilisation. Cacao (Theobroma cacao L.) is an important cash crop and requires nutrient supply to maintain yield. This project aimed to use chemometric analysis and wavelength selection to improve the accuracy of foliar nutrient prediction.

Materials and methods

We used a visible-near infrared (400–1000 nm) hyperspectral imaging (HSI) system to predict foliar calcium (Ca), potassium (K), phosphorus (P) and nitrogen (N) of cacao trees. Images were captured from 95 leaf samples. Partial least square regression (PLSR) models were developed to predict leaf nutrient concentrations and wavelength selection was undertaken.

Results and discussion

Using all wavelengths, Ca (R2CV?=?0.76, RMSECV?=?0.28), K (R2CV?=?0.35, RMSECV?=?0.46), P (R2CV?=?0.75, RMSECV?=?0.019) and N (R2CV?=?0.73, RMSECV?=?0.17) were predicted. Wavelength selection increased the prediction accuracy of Ca (R2CV?=?0.79, RMSECV?=?0.27) and N (R2CV?=?0.74, RMSECV?=?0.16), while did not affect prediction accuracy of foliar K (R2CV?=?0.35, RMSECV?=?0.46) and P (R2CV?=?0.75, RMSECV?=?0.019).

Conclusions

Visible-near infrared HSI has a good potential to predict Ca, P and N concentrations in cacao leaf samples, but K concentrations could not be predicted reliably. Wavelength selection increased the prediction accuracy of foliar Ca and N leading to a reduced number of wavelengths involved in developed models.

A 44-day rearing trial was conducted to examine the enrichment of Artemia urmiana nauplii with vitamin E and highly unsaturated fatty acid (HUFA) and its effects on the growth performance, survival and stress resistance of great sturgeon, Huso huso , larvae. Cod liver oil (EPA 18% and DHA 12%) and α-tocopherol acetate were used as lipid and vitamin E sources. Beluga larvae at the first exogenous feeding with 69±5.9 mg body weight were randomly distributed into four treatments and three tanks were assigned to each diet. The test treatments were as follows: larvae fed with HUFA+20% and HUFA+50% (w/w) vitamin E-enriched Artemia nauplii (E1 and E2 groups, respectively), HUFA without vitamin E (HUFA group) and non-enriched Artemia (control group). All treatments fed non-enriched Artemia for the initial 5 days after first feeding and then fed enriched Artemia for 7 days. After the period of enrichment, larvae were fed with daphnia from the 13th to the 40th day. At day 40, submersion in salt water (6 ppt for 4 days and 12 ppt for 2 days) and warm water (33 °C for 2 days) was performed to evaluate larvae resistance to salinity and temperature stress. Final weight, daily growth rate, specific growth rate and weight gain were higher in beluga fed with enriched Artemia . The highest growth rates were observed in E1, whereas survival was not significantly different between groups. Use of vitamin E and HUFA significantly increased fish resistance to a salinity of 12 ppt and the lowest stress resistance was observed in the control group. Stress tolerance was not significantly different at 6 ppt and 33 °C between groups. There was no comparable difference in the haematocrit index under stress conditions. These results indicated that the enrichment of Artemia with essential fatty acids and vitamin E can affect some growth and stress tolerance factors in great sturgeon, Huso huso , larvae.  相似文献
