Brazilian consumers prefer beans of the beige grain colour. Common beans help supply dietary requirements for iron and zinc. The objectives of this study were (i) to determine whether early selection for grain colour affects the iron and zinc content and the grain yield in common beans and (ii) if an association between these characteristics was found, to obtain lines of carioca‐type grains with a high iron and zinc content and good grain yield. We evaluated 96 F3:4, F3:5 and F3:6 progeny at two locations for iron and zinc content and grain yield. We selected 48 progeny for grain colour and chose 48 others at random. We found that early selection for grain colour does not affect the zinc content and grain yield. A positive and high association was found between iron and zinc content, and both iron and zinc content were slightly negatively correlated with grain yield. It is possible to obtain common bean lines combining a high iron and zinc content with good grain yield as long as a selection index is used. 相似文献

In the common bean crop in Brazil, the requirement of the value for cultivation and use trials is that these experiments must be conducted over two years in three locations per region. Information in regard to the necessary number of years to ensure precision in cultivar recommendation and the influence of evaluated years in the estimation of the GE interaction are still scarce. Using grain yield of five check varieties assessed over 11 years in three sowing seasons per year, the aims of this study are as follows: to measure the relative contribution of the GE interaction, evaluating the implication of the number of years in the estimates of the GE interaction, and infer how many years are needed to ensure precision in cultivar recommendation. For instances, analysis of variance was carried out involving all environments and also combinations of years. The results showed that the GE interaction was greater than all other cross‐effects involving lines. The use of at least two years allows good coincidence in cultivar recommendation compared to the whole period. Increasing the evaluation time is a good strategy, especially when it is difficult to grow three different sowing seasons. 相似文献

This study was conducted in Brazil in order to assess the potential risk posed by gene escape from transgenic into non-transgenic plants and wild populations. A new methodology was applied to evaluate the gene flow between common bean cultivars, by means of a specially delineated experiment in two stages. The first stage consisted of the planting of one cultivar with violet flowers (BB) as pollen source (‘Diamante Negro’), and a receiver (‘Talismã’) with white flowers (bb), at different distances. The source was sown in the center of the area. The pollen receiver cultivar was sown, in concentrical squares around it. At maturity, the rows were sampled at varied distances from the source in the four cardinal directions. In the second stage, the sampled seeds of the previous stage were sown, and the percentage of outcrossing was evaluated during flowering through the presence of violet flowers (Bb). The highest frequency of natural hybrids, 0.136%, occurred at a distance of 0.5 m between the cultivars. The natural outcrossing rate was practically zero beyond a distance of 3.25 m. 相似文献

Summary Male meiosis of the interspecific hybrid between Allium roylei and A. cepa is undisturbed relative to its parents. Based on meiotic data, A. roylei is concluded to be a closer relative of A. cepa than A. fistulosum. Segregation ratios for downy mildew resistance among BC1 and F2 progenies from the F1 between A. roylei and A. cepa indicate the presence of two dominantly inherited, weakly linked nuclear resistance genes, Pd
1 and Pd
2, in A. roylei (recombination frequency 0.32±0.03). Presumably Pd
1 and Pd

The main goal of this work was to introduce resistance genes for rust, caused by Uromyces appendiculatus, and anthracnose, caused by Colletotrichum lindemuthianum, in an adapted common bean cultivar through marker-assisted backcrossing. DNA fingerprinting was used to select plants genetically closer to the recurrent parent which were also resistant to rust and to race 89 of C. lindemuthianum. DNA samples extracted from the resistant parent (cv. Ouro Negro), the recurrent parent (cv. Rudá), and from BC1, BC2 and BC3 resistant plants were amplified by the RAPD technique. The relative genetic distances in relation to the recurrent parent varied between 9 and 59% for BC1, 7 and 33% for BC2, and 0 and 7% for BC3 resistant plants. After only three backcrosses, five lines resistant to rust and anthracnose with, approximately, 0% genetic distance in relation to the recurrent parent were obtained. These lines underwent field yield tests in two consecutive growing seasons and three of them presented a good yield performance, surpassing in that sense their parents and most of the reference cultivars tested. 相似文献

The fungus Cladosprium fulvum is a biotrophic leaf pathogen of tomato. The fungus develops in the intercellular space without forming specialized feeding structures and does not affect the leaf tissue. The outcome of the C. fulvum-tomato interaction can be described by the gene-for-gene model. Failure of infection is expressed by a hypersensitive response. Two fungal proteins, ECP1 and ECP2, have been isolated and their corresponding genes have been cloned. In a compatible interaction including many physiological races ECP1 and ECP2 are highly produced and a role in pathogenicity is suggestive. The ecp1 gene shows some homology with tumor necrosis factor receptors (TNFRs) while the ecp2 gene shows no homology with sequences known in data bases. However, disruption of one of the two genes showed no reduced pathogenicity of the fungus. Two race-specific elicitors, AVR4 and AVR9, have been isolated and their corresponding genes have been cloned. The avirulence genes Avr4 and Avr9 are only present in C. fulvum avirulent on Cf-4 and Cf-9 cultivars, respectively. The expression of these two genes is, like the expression of the ecp genes, highly induced when the fungus grows in planta. Disruption of the Avr9 gene in wild type avirulent races leads to virulence on tomato genotypes carrying the complementary resistance gene Cf-9. A single base-pair change in the avirulence gene Avr4 leads to virulence on tomato genotypes carrying the Cf-4 resistance gene. Protoplast fusion can be used to produce somatic hybrids of species that cannot be obtained by sexual hybridization. The possibility to introgress genes from Solanum species into the cultivated tomato species Lycopersicon esculentum, and to obtain novel cytoplasm-nucleus combinations (cybrids) was considered as an important strategy to extend the genetic variation available for tomato breeding. Somatic hybrids between L. esculentum and other Lycopersicon species, as well as between L. esculentum and Solanum or Nicotiana species, have been produced. Specific mutants, genotypes with antibiotic resistances, and metabolic inhibition by iodoacetate or iodoacetamide and irradiation were used for the selection of hybrids. In addition, the improvement of protoplast culture techniques and the use of the favourable tissue culture traits derived from species such as L. peruvianum, which have been introduced into tomato by classical breeding, allowed the efficient recovery of somatic hybrids. However, the occurrence of somatic incongruity in fusion combinations of L. esculentum and Solanum and even more in L. esculentum and Nicotiana, did not allow the production of true cybrids and/or fertile hybrids, indicating the importance of both cytoplasm-nucleus and nucleus-nucleus interactions in somatic incongruity. Another problem with fusions between distantly related species is the strongly reduced fertility of the hybrids and the very limited homoeologous recombination between chromosomes of the parental species. Partial genome transfer from donor to recipient through microprotoplast (+) protoplast fusion, and the production of monosomic or disomic chromosome addition lines, light overcome some of these problems. In symmetric somatic hybrids between L. esculentum and S. tuberosum the occurrence of limited somatic and meiotic recombination was demonstrated. Fertile progeny plants could be obtained, though at a low frequency, when embryo rescue was performed on a large scale after backcrossing hexaploid somatic tomato (+) potato hybrids with a tetraploid potato genotype. The potential value of genomic in situ hybridization (GISH) and RFLPs for the analysis of the genome/chromosome composition of the hybrids has been demonstrated for intergeneric somatic hybrids between Lycopersicon and Solanum.Abbreviations cpDNA

The tripartite symbiosis formed by indigenous arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF), Bradyrhizobium japonicum (Kirchner) Jordan and soya bean (Glycine max L. Merr. cv. Evans) was investigated under field conditions to test the hypotheses that: (i) the tripartite symbiosis enhances nodulation and nodule activity; and (ii) its establishment does not rely on improved phosphorus (P) uptake through the fungal partner. Soil tillage was used to produce treatments with contrasting AMF colonization potentials while the amount of B. japonicum inoculum was kept constant. Nodulation, AMF colonization and the P and nitrogen (N) nutrition of plants were evaluated at 10 and 51 (full‐bloom) days after emergence. N2 fixation was estimated by the difference method and by the isotopic dilution method. At the early stage of plant growth, AMF hyphal colonization and nodulation were, respectively, 16 % and 33 % greater in plants from untilled than from rototilled soil. The establishment of the tripartite symbiosis was observed under field conditions, and factors other than P nutrition were critical to its formation. However, the tripartite symbiosis did not promote N2 fixation under the high soil P conditions of this study. 相似文献

BR-105 and BR-106 are important tropical maize populations, which were submitted to a high-intensity reciprocal recurrent
selection, generating the IG-3 and IG-4synthetics. Using 30-microsatellite loci,we measured and compared the genetic diversity
of these populations and their synthetics. The populations did not differ significantly regarding the amount of genetic diversity.
As a consequence of selection, genetic variability losses, in terms of mean number of alleles per locus,proportion of polymorphic
loci, and gene diversity did occur and were greater in the synthetic IG-3 than IG-4. In the synthetics, the number of loci
in adherence to Hardy-Weinberg proportions was superior to that observed in the populations. The Wright's mean fixation index
was higher than the mean value expected for outcrossing species (5%) indicating as light excess of homozygotic individuals
in both populations. The genetic distances confirmed the favourable effects of one cycle of recurrent selection, as the synthetics
became more isolated in comparison to the original populations.
