There is increasing demand for essential fatty acids (EFAs) from non-fish sources such as microalgae, which are considered a renewable and sustainable biomass. The open raceway system (ORS) is an affordable system for microalgae biomass cultivation for industrial applications. However, seasonal variations in weather can affect biomass productivity and the quality of microalgal biomass. The aim of this study was to determine the feasibility of year-round Tetraselmis sp. cultivation in a semi-ORS in Korea for biomass and bioactive lipid production. To maximize biomass productivity of Tetraselmis sp., f medium was selected because it resulted in a significantly higher biomass productivity (1.64 ± 0.03 g/L) and lower omega-6/omega-3 ratio (0.52/1) under laboratory conditions than f/2 medium (0.70/1). Then, we used climatic data-based building information modeling technology to construct a pilot plant of six semi-ORSs for controlling culture conditions, each with a culture volume of 40,000 L. Over 1 year, there were no significant variations in monthly biomass productivity, fatty acid composition, or the omega-6/omega-3 ratio; however, the lipid content correlated significantly with photosynthetic photon flux density. During year-round cultivation from November 2014 to October 2017, areal productivity was gradually increased by increasing medium salinity and injecting CO2 gas into the culture medium. Productivity peaked at 44.01 g/m2/d in October 2017. Throughout the trials, there were no significant differences in average lipid content, which was 14.88 ± 1.26%, 14.73 ± 2.44%, 12.81 ± 2.82%, and 13.63 ± 3.42% in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, respectively. Our results demonstrated that high biomass productivity and constant lipid content can be sustainably maintained under Korean climate conditions.  相似文献

Seasonal foliage and twig nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) dynamics were determined for 40‐year‐old pitch pine (Pinus rigida Mill.) and Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gord.) plantations established on similar soils in central Korea. Also, the effects of three levels of N plus P fertilizers on N and P retranslocation were evaluated. In general, Japanese larch had significantly higher current foliage N and P concentrations than pitch pine, and N and P concentrations were higher in foliage than those in twigs for both study species. Foliage N and P concentrations were highest in mid‐growing season and lowest in autumn whereas twig N and P concentrations increased during foliage senescence, suggesting that twig served as a storage tissue. We did not find differences in foliage N and P retranslocation between pitch pine and Japanese larch; current foliage N and P retranslocation of the control trees were 35% and 56% for pitch pine, and 39% and 59% for Japanese larch, respectively. There were no consistent patterns in foliage and twig N and P retranslocation following fertilization.  相似文献

Age and growth were determined for threeline grunt Parapristipoma trilineatum based on otolith readings of 1043 specimens collected along the south-western coast of Kii Peninsula, Japan. Observations of the otolith margin, together with comparisons of ring mark counts with age in artificially reared specimens, verified that such marks were produced once a year. The formation period corresponded approximately to the main spawning season (May–June). Both surface and cross-section methods were used for age determination; the surface method often resulted in underestimations of age for fish older than 2 years. Discrepancies between the two methods became greater with fish growth. The von Bertalanffy growth curve, based on ages inferred from the cross-section method, was FL t=331×{1−exp[−0.283×(t+1.45)]}. No substantial difference was detected between male and female growth parameters. The oldest maximum ages inferred from the cross-section method were 15 and 21 years for females and males, respectively. It seems likely that P. trilineatum grows more slowly and lives longer than previously thought, and the difference is attributed primarily to differences in aging methods used in the present and previous studies.  相似文献

Direct interspecies transmissions of group A rotaviruses (RVA) have been reported under natural conditions. However, the pathogenicity of RVA has never been directly compared in homologous and heterologous hosts. The bovine RVA/Cow-tc/KOR/K5/2004/G5P[7] strain, which was shown to possess a typical porcine-like genotype constellation similar to that of the G5P[7] prototype RVA/Pig-tc/USA/OSU/1977/G5P9[7] strain, was examined for its pathogenicity and compared with the porcine G5P[7] RVA/Pig-tc/KOR/K71/2006/G5P[7] strain possessing the same genotype constellation. The bovine K5 strain induced diarrhea and histopathological changes in the small intestine of piglets and calves, whereas the porcine K71 strain caused diarrhea and histopathological changes in the small intestine of piglets, but not in calves. Furthermore, the bovine K5 strain showed extra-intestinal tropisms in both piglets and calves, whereas the porcine K71 strain had extra-intestinal tropisms in piglets, but not in calves. Therefore, we performed comparative genomic analysis of the K71 and K5 RVA strains to determine whether specific mutations could be associated with these distinct clinical and pathological phenotypes. Full-length sequencing analyses for the 11 genomic segments for K71 and K5 revealed that these strains were genetically nearly identical to each other. Two nucleotide mutations were found in the 5′ untranslated region (UTR) of NSP5 and the 3′ UTR of NSP3, and eight amino acid mutations in VP1-VP4 and NSP2. Some of these mutations may be critical molecular determinants for RVA virulence and/or pathogenicity.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to compare the growth, carcass, histochemical, and meat quality characteristics in Large White pig groups that were categorized by live weight (Heavy and Light) and type I fiber percentage (High and Low), a procedure which resulted in four groups (Heavy-High, Heavy-Low, Light-High, and Light-Low). As expected, the Heavy group showed heavier live weight (114 vs. 94.7 kg, P<0.001) and larger loin eye area (53.3 vs. 47.8 cm2, P<0.001), as well as, higher total number (1,223,000 vs. 1,140,000, P<0.05) and greater mean value cross-sectional area (CSA; 4031 vs. 3798 μm2P<0.05) of muscle fibers than the Light group. However, there were no significant differences in start and finish days among the groups (P>0.05). Heavier pigs harboring a higher percentage of type I fibers (HH) exhibited a similar mean CSA (3894 vs. 4101 μm2) and total number (1,249,000 vs. 1,198,000) of muscle fibers, even though these pigs had a greater CSA of type I fibers (3181 vs. 2719 μm2, P<0.05) and a smaller CSA of type IIB fibers (4048 vs. 4457 μm2, P<0.05) compared to heavier pigs harboring a lower percentage of fiber type I (HL). Both the HL and Light-Low groups exhibited a rapid decline of muscle pH at the early postmortem period (5.90 and 5.85 vs. 6.08, P<0.05), paler surfaces (43.07 and 43.55 vs. 40.73,P<0.05), and higher degrees of fluid loss by exudation (6.26 and 6.39 vs. 4.22%, P<0.05) compared to the HH group due to their muscle fiber type composition. Thus, the HH pigs showed better meat quality characteristics without significant differences in growth and carcass performance compared to the HL pigs. Therefore, selection for increased live weight at the same age and muscle fiber characteristics, especially the increased type I fiber CSA and proportion, is one of the relevant indicators to improve and control meat quality without reducing the growth and carcass performance.  相似文献

Corn grits and corn fiber mixed at different mass ratios (0/100, 15/85 and 30/70) were extruded at different melt temperature (90, 105 and 120 °C) using extrusion with and without CO2 injection. The L value, reducing sugar content and antioxidant properties decreased after extrusion with or without CO2 injection. The color and antioxidant properties were relatively stable in the extrusion with CO2 injection at higher melt temperature (120 °C) in comparison with the extrusion without CO2 injection. Higher corn fiber content resulted in less loss of total phenolic content. The b, ΔE values and water absorption index increased after extrusion. The increase of the water absorption index was higher after the extrusion process with the CO2 injection especially at the lower melt temperature. The addition of corn fiber decreased L, b, and ΔE values, but significantly increased antioxidant properties under the same extrusion conditions.  相似文献

The patterns and progress of disease caused by multiple infections of Cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), Pepper mild mottle virus (PMMoV) and Pepper mottle virus (PepMoV) and their effects on growth of pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L.) were investigated in this study. Each virus induced distinct symptoms, but more severe symptoms, including reduced growth rates, were observed when pepper plants were simultaneously infected by more than one virus. When CMV was included in multiple viral inoculations, co-inoculations and sequential inoculations, PepMoV and PMMoV symptoms were observed but the symptoms characteristic of CMV were not masked, even though CMV titre did not increase greatly. In multiple viral infections, PepMoV titre and CMV did not increase significantly, but PMMoV titre gradually increased in most cases. Growth rates of pepper plants were greatly reduced during the 30 to 40-day post-inoculation period under both single-infection and multiple-infection conditions, but multiple viral infections of CMV pre-inoculated peppers were affected to a greater extent. A significant reduction in fruit size and fruit number was observed in single and multiple viral inoculations, and fruit malformation rates were high in CMV single-infection and multiple viral infections with CMV.  相似文献

Fasciola hepatica causes biliary epithelial hyperplasia and obstructive jaundice in humans and animals. Using a planar lipid bilayer technique, we further characterized the single channel property of large conductance K(+)-permeable channels that were previously identified from F. hepatica. The single channel conductance was 254.7±17.9 pS under a symmetrical 200/200 mM (cis/trans) KCl gradient. Open state probability (P(o)) varied from channel to channel at a given membrane potential and Ca(2+) concentration, but increased with voltage (-60 to +40 mV) and cis Ca(2+) (1-200 μM). Under a near bi-ionic condition of 200 mM [K(+)](cis)/200 mM [Na(+)](trans), the permeability ratio of K(+) to Na(+) was 5.0. Charybdotoxin (1 μM) inhibited P(o), whereas tetraethylammonium reduced the conductance (K(D)=67.8mM). Taken together, the results show that the single channel properties of the large conductance K(+)-permeable channels in F. hepatica are similar to those of large conductance Ca(2+)-activated K(+) (BK) channels in general, but distinct from typical BK channels in the extent of voltage- and Ca(2+)-dependence, as well as permeability to Na(+). This study further reveals a variant BK channel in F. hepatica that could serve as a new drug target to treat fascioliasis.  相似文献
