Brainstem auditory evoked responses (BAERs) to click and tone-burst stimuli (0.5, 1, 2, 4, and 8 kHz) were recorded from 32 ears in 16 adult Beagles. BAERs were used to establish a normative database and describe response thresholds and latencies (wave I-IV) for the different stimuli. The frequencies of sound used were 8, 4, 2, 1, and 0.5 kHz. Sound stimuli were delivered by a closed headphone and masking stimuli were not applied. The BAER waveforms obtained were similar to those reported previously, except for a frequency-following response evoked by 1-kHz tone-bursts. The threshold was lowest when clicks and 4-kHz tone-bursts were used. Significant differences were observed between the mean values of the peak latencies for clicks and 4-and 8-kHz tone-bursts. The tone-burst stimulation used in our experiment was shown to be an appropriate method for detecting the BAERs. Thus, for investigating the frequency-specificity of the auditory sense, BAER data obtained using tone-burst sound in dogs may be meaningful.  相似文献

Previous structural characterizations of marsupial milk oligosaccharides have been performed in the tammar wallaby, red kangaroo, koala, common brushtail possum and the eastern quoll. To clarify the homology and heterogeneity of milk oligosaccharides among marsupial species, which could provide information on their evolution, the oligosaccharides of wombat milk carbohydrate were characterized in this study. Neutral and acidic oligosaccharides were isolated from the carbohydrate fractions of two samples of milk of the common wombat and characterized by 1H‐nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. The structures of six neutral saccharides were found to be Gal(β1‐4)Glc (lactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (3'‐galactosyllactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (3',3”‐digalactosyllactose), Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc, Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (galactosyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose I) and Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (lacto‐N‐novooctaose), while those of six acidic saccharides were Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc. (sialyl 3'‐galactosyllactose), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl 3',3”‐digalactosyllactose), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose a), Gal(β1‐3)[Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc (sialyl lacto‐N‐novopentaose c), Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐4)Glc,, Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc and Gal(β1‐3)Gal(β1‐3)[Neu5Ac(α2‐3)Gal(β1‐4)GlcNAc(β1‐6)]Gal(β1‐4)Glc. A rare lymphoma that developed in the cecum of a domestic pet rabbit (6 years old, male, crossbred) was examined pathologically. The tumor consisted of proliferating neoplastic lymphoid cells, which were strongly stained with anti-CD79alpha monoclonal antibody. Electron microscopy revealed the tumor cells were composed of rough endoplasmic reticula and/or dilated rough endoplasmic reticula filled with moderately electron-dense material. These findings indicated the present case was rare digestive tract lymphoma originated from B-lymphocytic lineage in the cecum.  相似文献

Rhizobium vitis: strain VAR03-1 is a biological control agent that suppresses grapevine crown gall disease caused by a tumorigenic strain of R. vitis (Ti). Both acetosyringone-induced expression of a virulence gene and the growth of Ti were suppressed in vitro when it was cultivated in the VAR03-1 culture filtrate. These inhibitory effects were reduced by high-temperature treatment or incubation for 72 h. Both activities were detected in the high molecular weight fraction (>?100 kDa) of the filtrate. Our results suggest that the antagonistic effects of VAR03-1 on Ti are mediated by large particle(s) released in the culture media.  相似文献

Hydrallantois is the excessive accumulation of fluid in the allantoic cavity in a pregnant animal and is associated with fetal death. We recently identified a recessive missense mutation in the solute carrier family 12, member 1 (SLC 12A1 ) gene (g.62382825G>A, p.Pro372Leu) that is associated with hydrallantois in Japanese Black cattle. Unexpectedly, we found a case of the homozygous risk‐allele for SLC 12A1 in a calf, using a PCR ‐based direct DNA sequencing test. The homozygote was outwardly healthy up to 3 months of age and the mother did not exhibit any clinical symptoms of hydrallantois. In order to validate these observations, we performed confirmation tests for the genotype and a diuretic loading test using furosemide, which inhibits the transporter activity of the SLC 12A1 protein. The results showed that the calf was really homozygous for the risk‐allele. In the homozygous calf, administration of furosemide did not alter urinary Na+ or Cl? levels, in contrast to the heterozygote and wild‐type calves in which these were significantly increased. These results demonstrate that the SLC 12A1 (g.62382825G>A, p.Pro372Leu) is a hypomorphic or loss‐of‐function mutation and the hydrallantois with this mutation shows incomplete penetrance in Japanese Black cattle.  相似文献

Nitrogen (N) inputs are recognised to maximise herbage mass (HM) in tropical perennial grasses, whereas less is clear on their impact on HM distribution and the effects on leaf mass (LM) and leaf area index (LAI) in the upper stratum. This 2 year study, carried out in Pirassununga, Brazil, assessed the HM distribution in the upper (>20 cm) and lower (<20 cm) strata in Urochloa hybrid ‘Mavuno’ grass maintained under similar pre- and post-cutting canopy heights with contrasting N fertilisation rates applied after each cutting (no-nitrogen, 15, 30, and 45 kg N ha−1). The relevance of specific leaf area (SLA), leaf N concentration (NLeaf), tiller weight (TW) and population density to the LM and LAI of the upper stratum were also examined. Mavuno grass expressed a stable HM < 20 cm (59%–71% during Year I and 66%–80% for Year II), and apparent N fertilisation impacts on HM > 20 cm were verified at specific regrowth cycles during Year II. Mavuno grass pastures expressed plasticity for adjustments on leaf, tiller and population attributes, which were modulated by both climatic conditions and N fertilisation. Under favourable growth conditions during Year I, fertilised pastures were able to sustain higher NLeaf and SLA but associated with lower TW, resulting in maximisation of LAI but not in LM in the upper stratum. During Year II, fertilised pastures expressed higher NLeaf, SLA, number of basal tillers, despite the lowest TW, which resulted in higher LAI and LM in the upper stratum compared with non-fertilised pastures. Our results highlighted that adjustments on leaf and population attributes within the canopy were driven to maximise the upper stratum LAI, being positively affected by N fertilisation.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to develop an in‐straw dilution method suitable for direct transfer of vitrified bovine sexed embryos. Embryo sexing was performed by molecular diagnosis. Several sexed and vitrified‐warmed embryos were transferred after evaluation of morphologically embryonic survival at warming and in‐straw dilution (Evaluation group). The other embryos were immediately directly transferred to recipients without first being expelled from the straws after in‐straw dilution (Non‐evaluation group). The pregnancy rates of vitrified sexed embryos were 38.7% and 34.8% in the Evaluation group and Non‐evaluation group, respectively, which were not significantly different. The viability of lower quality embryos before vitrification tended to be lower (P = 0.087) than that of the higher quality embryos regardless of evaluating embryos after warming and in‐straw dilution. The abortion rates were similar, and there was no difference between the two groups (13.9% and 12.5%, respectively). These results demonstrate that vitrified bovine sexed embryos can be vitrified and diluted by the in‐straw method and that the vitrified and warmed sexed embryos can develop to term.  相似文献

This study was undertaken to identify critical and practical factors explaining spatial variations in soil respiration and to estimate stand-scale soil respiration in an aseasonal tropical rainforest on Borneo Island. To this aim, we conducted soil respiration measurements at 25 points in a 40 m × 40 m subplot of a 4 ha study plot between 2002 and 2006, and examined the spatial variation in soil respiration averaged over the 4 years in relation to soil, root, and forest structural factors. In addition, we examined the spatial representativeness of soil respiration measured in the subplot using a specific scaling procedure. Consequently, we found significant positive correlation between the soil respiration and forest structural parameters such as the mean diameter at breast height (DBH), total basal area, and maximum DBH within 6 m of the measurement points. The most important factor was the mean DBH within 6 m of the measurement points, which had a significant linear relationship with soil respiration. Using the derived linear regression and an inventory dataset, we estimated the 4 ha plot-scale soil respiration. The 4 ha plot-scale estimation (6.0 μmol m−2 s−1) was nearly identical to the subplot-scale measurements (5.7 μmol m−2 s−1), which were roughly comparable to the nocturnal CO2 fluxes calculated using the eddy covariance technique. In addition, we discuss characteristics of the stand-scale soil respiration at this site by comparing with those of other forests reported in previous literature in terms of the soil C balance. Soil respiration at our site was noticeably greater, relative to the incident litterfall amount, than soil respiration in other tropical and temperate forests probably owing to the larger total belowground C allocation by emergent trees. Overall, this study suggests the arrangement of emergent trees with larger DBH and their belowground C allocation could be primary factors controlling spatial variations in soil respiration in the tropical rainforest.  相似文献
