Brucella infections in wildlife originate either from contact with infected livestock or from a natural sustainable reservoir in wildlife populations. As South Korea has set a goal of brucellosis eradication by 2013, it is necessary to determine the prevalence of Brucella in wildlife and wild rodents. This information will play an important role in the control of brucellosis. Because of the absence of prominent clinical signs, direct and indirect laboratory tests are essential for diagnosing brucellosis. In this study, tissue and blood samples were taken from wild animals, abandoned dogs, a cat and wild rodents, and they were tested for Brucella or Brucella-specific antibodies by isolation, PCR and serology. Results showed that 18.6% (33/177) of blood samples were positive by PCR, and 5.7% (11/194) were positive by C-ELISA. However, none of these samples yielded culturable bacteria. Of the tissue samples, 9.7% (8/82) were positive by PCR. Brucella was isolated from only one tissue culture from a Chinese water deer carcass. This Brucella species was identified as Brucella abortus biovar 1 by biotyping, 16S rRNA PCR and the Bruce-ladder PCR assay. In this study, we reported the prevalence of Brucella in wildlife, dogs, a cat and rodents by using serological and molecular methods, and we report the first isolation of B. abortus in wild Chinese water deer in South Korea.  相似文献

This experiment was conducted to evaluate the varietal differences of spikelet sterility response to air temperature during the reproductive stage. Six rice varieties differing in maturity group (early-maturing; Unkwangbyeo, Odaebyeo, medium-maturing; Andabyeo, Hwasungbyeo, and mid-late maturing; Donganbyeo, Chuchungbyeo) were grown under ambient temperature (AT) conditions before being transferred to the temperature-controlled plastic houses. For the synchronization of the growth stage, 15 rice seedlings (2011) and 10 rice seedlings (2012) per pot were transplanted in a circle and only main stems were grown by removing tillers at early stage of their emergence. At the initial heading stage, pots for each variety were transferred to the four plastic houses that were controlled to AT, AT + 1.5°C, AT + 3.0°C, and AT + 5.0°C, respectively. Spikelet fertility was significantly decreased due to high temperature-induced spikelet sterility at AT + 3.0 and/or AT + 5.0°C treatment during flowering time in 2011. Spikelet fertility in 2012 was much lower than in 2011 even at the AT treatment because of high temperature-induced spikelet sterility at the micosporogenesis stage. Critical temperature (Tc) that induces 50% spikelet sterility at flowering time was estimated by fitting the temperature response of spikelet fertility to a logistic function. Tc ranged from 34.6°C (Odaebyeo) to 39.7°C (Hwasungbyeo), Odaebyeo being significantly more sensitive to high temperature-induced spikelet sterility than the other varieties. This result has shown that response of spikelet sterility to higher temperature is different according to rice varieties. However, further study should be done to arrive at a concrete conclusion.  相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation of Barodon, an anionic alkali mineral complex, on growth, feed utilization, humoral innate immunity and disease resistance of olive flounder. A basal experimental diet was used as a control and supplemented with 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.4, or 0.5% Barodon. Triplicate groups of fish (26.4 ± 0.2 g) were fed one of the diets to apparent satiation twice daily for 10 wk. The growth performance was enhanced (P < 0.05) linearly and quadratically in fish fed diets containing Barodon compared with that in fish fed the control. Feed utilization was significantly improved by Barodon supplementation. Serum lysozyme and antiprotease activities were increased quadratically in Barodon fed groups. Also, significantly higher superoxide dismutase activity was found in Barodon‐fed fish. Dietary supplementation of 0.1–0.3% Barodon resulted in significant enhancement of fish disease resistance against Streptococcus iniae. The findings in this study indicate that dietary supplementation of Barodon can enhance growth, feed utilization, innate immunity, and disease resistance of olive flounder and that the optimum level seems to be 0.1% in diets.  相似文献

The aim of these experiments was to investigate the potential antiviral effect of Saccharomyces cerevisiaeβ‐glucan on the pneumonia induced by swine influenza virus (SIV). Forty colostrum‐deprived 5‐day‐old piglets were randomly divided into four groups of 10. The 20 pigs in groups 1 and 2 were administered Saccharomyces cerevisiaeβ‐glucan orally (50 mg/day/pig; En‐Bio Technology Co., Ltd) for 3 days before SIV infection and those in groups 3 and 4 were given culture medium/diluent alone. Groups 1 and 3 were inoculated intranasally with 3 ml of tissue culture fluid containing 2 × 106 tissue culture infective doses 50% (TCID50)/ml of SIV and those in groups 2 and 4 were exposed in the same manner to uninfected cell culture supernatant. The microscopic lung lesions induced by SIV infection (group 1 pigs) were significantly more severe than those induced by infection in animals pre‐administered β‐glucan (group 3) (P < 0.05). Significantly more SIV nucleic acid was detected in the lungs of pigs experimentally infected with SIV only (group 1) at 5, 7 and 10 days post‐inoculation (dpi) compared with lungs from pigs pre‐administered β‐glucan and infected with SIV (group 3) (P < 0.05). The concentrations of interferon‐γ (IFN‐γ) and nitric oxide (NO) in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid from pigs pre‐administered β‐glucan and infected with SIV (group 3) were significantly higher than for any other group at 7 and 10 dpi for IFN‐γ, and at 5, 7 and 10 dpi for NO (P < 0.05). Saccharomyces cerevisiaeβ‐glucan reduced the pulmonary lesion score and viral replication rate in SIV‐infected pigs. These findings support the potential application of β‐glucan as prophylactic/treatment agent in influenza virus infection.  相似文献

Removal of the 2nd or 3rd lumbar vertebrae (or both) has been accomplished in the subhuman primate (Macaca mulatta). Variations between this animal and the dog in posture, vertebral column anatomy, and spinal cord blood supply made no apparent difference in the results when compared with those in previous experiments. All macaques were able to clinb and to use their hind legs in a normal manner within 3 days after surgical operation. Once hair had regrown over the surgical incision, persons not familiar with the animals were not able to identify the animals that had undergone surgical operation. If a single vertebra was removed, use of spinous process and a single vertebral body plate was sufficient to stabilize the vertebral column. Except for 1 rhesus macaque whose spinous process plates were removed 20 days after the operation, vertebral columns of macaques (n = 3) that underwent single spondylectomy healed in nearly normal alignment. With the removal of 2 lumbar vertebrae, the previously described stabilization procedure was not sufficient to prevent kyphotic deformity of the vertebral column. Spinous process plates from 1 macaque were removed after 64 days. However, all these macaques (n = 3) could climb and use their legs as well as others in the colony.  相似文献

This study was performed to determine which oxidoreductive catalysts were most efficient in catalyzing the binding of 8-hydroxybentazon to soil humic substances. 8-Hydroxybentazon was completely transformed by an oxidoreductive enzyme, laccase of Myceliophthora thermophila, at pH 3.0-7.0 within 30 min. When abiotic catalysts, manganese(IV), iron(III), and aluminum oxides were used in the same pH range, 8-hydroxybentazon was completely transformed only by manganese(IV) oxide (delta-MnO2), but a relatively small amount of 8-hydroxybentazon was transformed by iron(III) oxide and aluminum oxide. The adsorption of 8-hydroxybentazon in the soil showed an H-type and coincided well with the Langmuir isotherm. To better understand the factors involved in the rapid and strong binding of 8-hydroxybentazon with soil humic substances, 8-hydroxybentazon transformation by oxidoreductive catalysts was studied in various soil conditions: air-dried, preincubated, sterilized, and iron(III) oxide and manganese(IV) oxide free. 8-Hydroxybentazon was completely transformed within 24 h in the decreasing order of preincubated, air-dried, and sterilized soils. However, little transformation was observed in the iron(III) oxide and manganese(IV) oxide free soils. These results suggest that the major catalyst responsible for the rapid and strong binding of 8-hydroxybentazon to soil humic substances is a metal oxide, manganese(IV) oxide, not a soil oxidoreductive enzyme.  相似文献

Antimicrobial‐resistant bacteria represent an important concern impacting both veterinary medicine and public health. The rising prevalence of extended‐spectrum beta‐lactamase (ESBL), AmpC beta‐lactamase, carbapenemase (CRE) and fluoroquinolone‐resistant Enterobacteriaceae continually decreases the efficiency of clinically important antibiotics. Moreover, the potential for zoonotic transmission of antibiotic‐resistant enteric bacteria increases the risk to public health. Our objective was to estimate the prevalence of specific antibiotic‐resistant bacteria on human contact surfaces in various animal environments. Environmental surface samples were collected from companion animal shelters, private equine facilities, dairy farms, livestock auction markets and livestock areas of county fairs using electrostatic cloths. Samples were screened for Enterobacteriaceae expressing AmpC, ESBL, CRE or fluoroquinolone resistance using selective media. Livestock auction markets and county fairs had higher levels of bacteria expressing both cephalosporin and fluoroquinolone resistance than did equine, dairy, and companion animal environments. Equine facilities harboured more bacteria expressing cephalosporin resistance than companion animal shelters, but less fluoroquinolone resistance. The regular use of extended‐spectrum cephalosporins in livestock populations could account for the increased levels of cephalosporin resistance in livestock environments compared to companion animal and equine facilities. Human surfaces, as well as shared human and animal surfaces, were contaminated with resistant bacteria regardless of species environment. Detecting these bacteria on common human contact surfaces suggests that the environment can serve as a reservoir for the zoonotic transmission of antibiotic‐resistant bacteria and resistance genes. Identifying interventions to lower the prevalence of antibiotic‐resistant bacteria in animal environments will protect both animal and public health.  相似文献
