An analysis was performed on the climatic responses of the radial growth of Larix gmelinii (Rupr.) Rupr. on contrasting north-facing and south-facing slopes in Tura, central Siberia. We developed chronologies of
tree-ring width for four plots, designated as north-upper, northlower, south-upper, and south-lower. Both residual and standard
chronologies of tree-ring widths exhibited a significant positive correlation with temperature from the end of May until early
June in all four plots. The chronologies of ring width did not reveal any major difference in the response to temperature
among the four plots. The standard chronologies of ring widths on the north-facing slope were negatively correlated with precipitation
during the winter (October–April) and in early and mid-May, whereas the residual chronologies did not reveal clear relationships
with precipitation during the winter and May. The significant correlation between ring width and temperature from the end
of May until early June indicates that temperatures in springtime play a significant role in the radial growth of L. gmelinii. The negative correlations between standard chronologies of tree-ring width and precipitation in the winter and in May on
the north-facing slope indicate that lowfrequency fluctuations in snowfall have negative effects on the radial growth. However,
these effects vary and depend on the microscale topography.

The aim of the present study was to examine the signaling pathways for a low dose of angiotensin II (ANG II) on Na+ uptake of primary cultured rabbit renal proximal tubule cells (PTCs) in hormonally defined serum-free medium. The results were as follows; ANG II (10(-11) M) stimulated the proliferation of PTCs. 10(-11) M ANG II stimulated Na+ uptake by 20%, whereas 10(-9) M ANG II inhibited it by 20% (p < 0.05). The stimulatory effect of 10(-11) M ANG II on Na+ uptake was inhibited by amiloride (10(-3) M) and by losartan (ANG II receptor subtype 1 antagonist, 10(-8) M) but not by PD123319 (ANG II receptor subtype 2 antagonist, 10(-8) M). Pertussis toxin (PTX, 50 ng/ml) prevented the ANG II-induced stimulation of Na+ uptake (p < 0.01). 8-Bromoadenosine 3', 5'-cyclic monophosphate (8-Br-cAMP, 10(-6) M) did not affect Na+ uptake. SQ 22536 (adenylate cyclase inhibitor, 10(-6) M) also did not change the ANG II-induced stimulation of Na+ uptake. ANG II did not stimulate cAMP production. In contrast, 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA, 0.01 ng/ml) produced significant increase in Na+ uptake. When ANG II and TPA were added together to the PTCs, there was no additive effect on Na+ uptake. Staurosporine (calcium-dependant protein kinase C inhibitor, 10(-6) M) led to a complete inhibition of ANG II-induced stimulation of Na+ uptake. ANG II-treatment resulted in a 26% increase in total protein kinase C (PKC) activity. However, 10(-11) M ANG II did not change [Ca2+]i mobilization and [3H]-AA release while 10(-9) M ANG II increased both of them. In conclusion, the PTX-sensitive PKC pathway may be the main signaling cascade in the stimulatory effects of low dose of ANG II (10(-11) M) on Na+ uptake in the primary cultured rabbit renal proximal tubule cells in hormonally defined serum-free medium. 相似文献

In this study, we analyzed DNA sequence of mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) control regions on the 130 native domestic pigs and eight wild boars in the mainland South and South-east Asian countries including Bhutan, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, and Vietnam. Forty-four haplotypes were found in the 138 individuals, 41 were in the domestic and four were in wild boars. Only one haplotype was shared by domestic and wild population in Bhutan. In other cases, mtDNA of wild boars did not show close affinity to that of the domestic pigs in the same location, indicating that the native domestic pigs in these countries did not originate in the present habitat. Phylogenetic analyzes of mtDNA haplotypes recapitulated several major clusters identified in other studies, but 11 haplotypes were grouped in a new cluster we named MTSEA. In most cases, more than one lineage group were present in a sampling station, indicating that the present indigenous domestic pigs may have multiple origins. The MTSEA haplotypes were present in relatively high frequencies in domestic pigs in the mountainous area of mainland South-east Asia (Cambodia and Laos), with a few found in Myanmar and Bhutan. The distributions of MTSEA haplotypes are in great conformity with the distribution of present-day Mon-Khmer language and indicated the existence of yet another independent domestication. The D2 haplotypes that distribute high frequency (almost 100%) throughout the Chinese breeds were dominant in Bhutan, Myanmar, and Vietnam. These results suggest an existence of human-mediated dispersal of domestic pigs from north to the south during the historical expansion of Sino-Tibetan and Tai peoples. The D3 haplotypes previously reported in north India were found in sympatric domestic and wild pigs in Bhutan. The D3 haplotype is an important proof of independent domestication event and/or great gene flow between wild and domestic pigs in the foot of Himalaya. 相似文献

Maesil (Prunus mume Siebold & Zucc.), a potential source of free radical scavengers and inhibitor of pro‐inflammatory mediators, is used in traditional Korean medical preparations as a remedy for skin disorders as have probiotics. The action of a probiotic fermented Maesil preparation on the development of atopic dermatitis (AD)‐like skin lesions was determined in a NC/Nga mouse model as an initial step towards the development of a therapeutic feed supplement for use in dogs. Continuous ingestion of the experimental feed markedly inhibited the development of the AD‐like skin lesions, as evidenced by a marked decrease in skin signs and reduced inflammation within the skin lesions. Efficacy was confirmed by significant decreases in eosinophil ratio and serum IgE concentration, and a reduction in the number of Staphylococcus aureus recovered from the ear. Relative mRNA expression levels of IL‐4, interferon‐γ and tumour necrosis factor‐α in the spleens of the experimental animals were also decreased and there was an increased serum concentration of IL‐10 with a concurrent decreased IL‐4 concentration in comparison to a control group. Taken together, the results indicate that some component(s) of fermented Maesil have the ability to suppress the development of AD‐like skin lesions, possibly by stimulation of IL‐10. Beneficial effects of fermented Maesil may thus be expected in dogs with AD, although this and the nature of the active pathway remain to be explored. 相似文献

Diabetic disease is known to suppress male reproductive activity in laboratory animals and humans. The present study was designed to evaluate whether streptozotocin-induced diabetes increases apoptotic cell death in rat testes through activation of the JNK and Bax pathway. Diabetes was induced by a single intravenous injection of streptozotocin (40 mg/kg) and testis samples were collected after 3 months. Compared with controls, body weight and testicular weight were lower in the diabetic group, and the apoptotic index in testicular germ cells was significantly increased. Expression of phospho-JNK and Bax was significantly increased in the diabetic group, and the level of activated caspase-3 was also increased, compared to that of controls. Our findings suggest that streptozotocin-induced diabetes increases apoptotic cell death in rat testes through phosphorylation of JNK and activation of Bax. 相似文献

Molecular mapping of a new genic male-sterility gene causing chalky endosperm in rice ( Oryza sativa L.) 总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
A genic male-sterility gene newly induced by chemical mutagenesis, tentatively designated as ms-h(t), was located on the molecular
map of rice and tested for its effect on chalky endosperm. Bulked segregant analysis was used to determine the chromosomal
location of the ms-h(t) locus by screening four to five RFLP markers per chromosome. After confirming that the gene was located
on chromosome 9, twenty-four RFLP markers from chromosome 9 were surveyed for polymorphism in the parents of the mapping population.
Of these, eleven markers were mapped around the ms- h(t) locus. RG451 and RZ404 flanked the ms-h(t) gene, at 2.5cM and 3.3cM,
respectively. Heterozygous F2 to F4 progenies were tested for co- segregation of male-sterility and chalky endosperm and it
was revealed that ms-h(t) might have a pleiotropic effect on chalky endosperm. This mutant would be a good biological material
to characterize the biochemical mechanism of male sterility and related pleiotropic effects. Further studies should be needed
to know the usefulness of this mutant for hybrid seed production.

Thermodynamic, x-ray diffraction, and Raman and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy measurements show that clusters of H2 can be stabilized and stored at low pressures in a sII binary clathrate hydrate. Clusters of H2 molecules occupy small water cages, whereas large water cages are singly occupied by tetrahydrofuran. The retardates' scale values and scale forms obtained by two kinds of scaling procedures are very similar to those of normals. The growth of juvenile abalone in aquaculture is known to be affected by density as a result of competition for food and decreases
in water quality. Our results suggest that behaviour is also affected by density and this also has a significant impact on
the growth of individual abalone. 1800 juveniles of Haliotis rubra were individually tagged and reared for 5 months in 12 gravity-fed tanks at two levels of density. The experimental design
allowed the differentiation of the direct from the indirect effects of density. The abalone growth and distribution was monitored
monthly along with the water quality. The distribution of abalone during daytime was closely related to the availability of
preferred shelter space. The percentage of abalone stacked on the top of others increased with density. Preferred shelter
space was characterized by low light intensity and a corner or edge for the abalone to rest against. Hides at the ends of
the tanks were not occupied as much as others. Abalone were found crawling on the side of the tank during daytime when tanks
were shaded. Abalone juveniles of 15–60 mm showed fidelity to their resting shelter during daytime but this fidelity was significantly
reduced at the higher density. Shading of the tanks totally changed the distribution of the abalone and their daytime behaviour.
Competition for shelter space reduced growth more than water quality.
