Leaf rust caused by Puccinia triticina is the most common and widely distributed of the three wheat rusts. Losses from leaf rust are usually less damaging than those from stem rust and stripe rust, but leaf rust causes greater annual losses due to its more frequent and widespread occurrence. Yield losses from leaf rust are mostly due to reductions in kernel weight. Many laboratories worldwide conduct leaf rust surveys and virulence analyses. Most currently important races (pathotypes) have either evolved through mutations in existing populations or migrated from other, often unknown, areas. Several leaf rust resistance genes are cataloged, and high levels of slow rusting adult plant resistance are available in high yielding CIMMYT wheats. This paper summarizes the importance of leaf rust in the main wheat production areas as reflected by yield losses, the complexity of virulence variation in pathogen populations, the role cultivars with race-specific resistance play in pathogen evolution, and the control measures currently practiced in various regions of the world.  相似文献

Long-term potentiation (LTP) of synaptic strength, the most established cellular model of information storage in the brain, is expressed by an increase in the number of postsynaptic AMPA receptors. However, the source of AMPA receptors mobilized during LTP is unknown. We report that AMPA receptors are transported from recycling endosomes to the plasma membrane for LTP. Stimuli that triggered LTP promoted not only AMPA receptor insertion but also generalized recycling of cargo and membrane from endocytic compartments. Thus, recycling endosomes supply AMPA receptors for LTP and provide a mechanistic link between synaptic potentiation and membrane remodeling during synapse modification.  相似文献

A multiplicity of cytochromes P-450 is responsible for the detoxification and activation of xenobiotics such as drugs and carcinogens. Individual differences in sensitivity to these agents may reside in the cytochrome P-450 phenotype. A monoclonal antibody-directed radioimmunoassay was developed that detects epitope-specific cytochromes P-450 in human placentas and peripheral lymphocytes. Placentas from women who smoked cigarettes contained greater amounts of cytochrome P-450 with the monoclonal antibody-specific epitope than placentas from nonsmokers. The amount of this cytochrome P-450 in human peripheral lymphocytes increased after treatment of the mitogenized lymphocytes with the cytochrome P-450 inducer benz[a]anthracene.  相似文献

Somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT) technology has recently been used to generate animals with a common genetic composition. In this study, we report the derivation of a pluripotent embryonic stem (ES) cell line (SCNT-hES-1) from a cloned human blastocyst. The SCNT-hES-1 cells displayed typical ES cell morphology and cell surface markers and were capable of differentiating into embryoid bodies in vitro and of forming teratomas in vivo containing cell derivatives from all three embryonic germ layers in severe combined immunodeficient mice. After continuous proliferation for more than 70 passages, SCNT-hES-1 cells maintained normal karyotypes and were genetically identical to the somatic nuclear donor cells. Although we cannot completely exclude the possibility that the cells had a parthenogenetic origin, imprinting analyses support a SCNT origin of the derived human ES cells.  相似文献

Searches for extrasolar planets have uncovered an astonishing diversity of planetary systems, yet the frequency of solar system analogs remains unknown. The gravitational microlensing planet search method is potentially sensitive to multiple-planet systems containing analogs of all the solar system planets except Mercury. We report the detection of a multiple-planet system with microlensing. We identify two planets with masses of approximately 0.71 and approximately 0.27 times the mass of Jupiter and orbital separations of approximately 2.3 and approximately 4.6 astronomical units orbiting a primary star of mass approximately 0.50 solar mass at a distance of approximately 1.5 kiloparsecs. This system resembles a scaled version of our solar system in that the mass ratio, separation ratio, and equilibrium temperatures of the planets are similar to those of Jupiter and Saturn. These planets could not have been detected with other techniques; their discovery from only six confirmed microlensing planet detections suggests that solar system analogs may be common.  相似文献

利用基于离子交换色谱原理氨基酸自动分析仪检测了一些常见食用菌中牛磺酸的含量。牛磺酸在磷酸丝氨酸及磷酸乙醇胺洗脱液中经色谱分析可得到清晰的对称峰。灵芝的牛磺酸含量为每100g干重含3.7~83umol。火菇在所检蘑菇中牛磺酸含量高,每100g湿重含(83.2±6.6)umol,与陆生植物相近。双孢蘑菇与香菇的牛磺酸含量相对较高,每100g湿重含量约49~55umol,牡蛎蘑菇及糙皮侧耳的鲜重含量分别为(8.9±0.712)umol、(3.7±0.3)umol,木耳及甘露地衣的干重含量分别为(19.5±2.1)umol、(9.3±1.5)umol。高牛磺酸、无胆固醇的蘑菇有望作为低胆甾醇类食物的替代品。  相似文献

Radiation from electrical power lines leaks into the magnetosphere and stimulates strong very-low-frequency wave activity out to many earth radii. Observations in Antarctica show that wave activity induced by power lines tends to occur during the daytime when power consumption is high in the source region in eastern Canada. The wave frequency ranges from 1 to 8 kilohertz. This man-made wave activity may have significant effects on energetic electrons trapped in the earth's radiation belts.  相似文献
