This study was carried out to identify the vulnerability of rice production to salinity intrusion arising from climate change in Giao Thuy, a coastal district of Nam Dinh Province, located in Red River Delta in Vietnam. From the analysis of historical climate data at Nam Dinh city, both mean maximum and minimum temperatures increased by about 0.3 and 0.1 °C per decade, respectively, during the period of 1961–2010. Salt concentration of the river water was higher at the irrigation gate closer to river mouth (Con Nhat) than at the upstream gate (Ha Mieu), which generally increased from 2003 to 2012, with the average maximum concentration up to 2.13 % at Con Nhat gate in 2010. The salt water concentration in the riverside field outside the dyke reached 3.6 %, while among the fields within dyke the salinity was only 0.7 % at maximum in January 2013, and the values were higher in paddy fields close to the dyke than far from the dyke. Average yield among the selected 27 fields from 2011 summer to 2013 spring rice was higher in spring rice (748 g m?2) but lower in summer rice (417 g m?2) mainly due to unfavorable weather such as cold spell at flowering and flood at harvesting time. Rice yield was lowest in general in the most downstream commune Giao Thien, and was significantly lower in field located close to the dyke than those far from the dyke. This spatial variability of rice yield may not be directly attributable to salinity, but to the other factors such as shift of irrigation intake gate to further upstream and/or different management such as less input of N fertilizer and use of traditional local variety.  相似文献

Paenibacillus larvae and Melissococcus plutonius are the causative agents of American and European foulbroods of honey bees, respectively. Since their virulence and resistance to disinfectants differ depending on the genotypes/phenotypes of the strains, the discrimination of strain types is important for the effective control of these diseases. Methods to detect and differentiate pathogens in honey are useful for surveying the contamination status of beehives/apiaries. In the present study, we selected a sequence (GenBank accession no. FI763267) as the specific target for enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus (ERIC) II-type P. larvae strains for the first time and developed a novel multiplex PCR assay that precisely distinguishes between the major types of foulbrood pathogens (ERIC I and II P. larvae and typical and atypical M. plutonius) in one reaction. In addition, we found that commercially available kits designed for DNA extraction from Mycobacterium in feces efficiently extracted DNA from foulbrood pathogens in honey. Using the multiplex PCR assay and DNA extraction kits, all the targeted types of P. larvae and M. plutonius were detected in honey spiked with the pathogens at a concentration of 100 bacterial cells/strain/ml. Moreover, 94% of the Japanese honey samples examined in the present study were contaminated with one or more types of the foulbrood pathogens. These results indicate that the newly developed methods are useful for detecting foulbrood pathogens in honey. The epidemiological information obtained by these methods will contribute to the effective control of foulbroods in apiaries.  相似文献

Apyrases (NTPases) are associated with both compatible and incompatible interactions between plants and microorganisms. Previously we reported that the ATPase activities of cell-wall-bound apyrases of several leguminous plants, such as pea, cowpea, soybean, and kidney bean, were enhanced by a glycoprotein elicitor and were inhibited in a species-specific manner by mucin-type glycopeptide suppressors secreted from a pea pathogenic fungus, Mycosphaerella pinodes. In this study, we isolated two apyrase genes, VsNTPase1 and VsNTPase2, from a cDNA library of Vigna sinensis Endl. cv. Sanjakusasage. Based on phylogenetic analysis, VsNTPase1 may belong to a group that responds to environmental stimuli. In a transient assay using DNA bombardment, a fusion protein of green fluorescent protein (GFP) and the N-terminal putative signal sequence of VsNTPase1 was distributed in the nucleus, cytoplasm (cytoskeletal structure), and cell wall. On the other hand, a fusion protein of GFP and the N-terminal putative VsNTPase2-signal sequence was localized in the cytoplasm, especially in small particles (perhaps mitochondria). A recombinant VsNTPase1 expressed in Spodoptera frugiperda 21 cells responded directly to signal molecules from several phytopathogenic microorganisms. Here, we discuss the role of apyrases in recognizing and responding to exogenous signals. Twenty ferrets with histopathologically diagnosed lymphoma were classified cytomorphologically and immunohistochemically. According to site of origin, multicentric, gastrointestinal, mediastinal and cutaneous lymphomas accounted for 8 (40%), 9 (45%), 2 (10%) and 1 case (5%), respectively. According to the National Cancer Institute Working Formulation (NCI-WF), low-, high- and intermediate-grade lymphomas accounted for 4 (20%), 4 (20%) and 12 cases (60%), respectively. The 4 low-grade lymphomas showed no mitotic figures, whereas all 4 high-grade lymphomas exhibited > or = 3 mitotic figures (median,6). Higher grade thus appears to be associated with a higher number of mitotic figures. Immunohistochemical examination of 18 specimens, excluding 2 insufficient specimens, showed that 16 (88.9%) and 2 (11.1%) lymphomas were of T-cell origin and B-cell origin, respectively. According to the combination of the NCI-WF and immunophenotypes, all 4 low-grade lymphomas (2 multicentric, 1 gastrointestinal, and 1 cutaneous lymphoma) were classified as diffuse small lymphocytic lymphoma of T-cell origin. Of the 12 intermediate-grade lymphomas (6 multicentric, 4 gastrointestinal, and 2 mediastinal lymphomas), 11 were classified as diffuse mixed-cell lymphoma, and 1 as diffuse large cell lymphoma. Of these 11 lymphomas, 2 (both multicentric) were of B-cell origin, 7 (3 multicentric, 3 gastrointestinal, 1 mediastinal) were of T-cell origin, and 2 (1 multicentric, 1 mediastinal) were of unknown cell origin. The remaining 1 lymphoma (gastrointestinal) was of T-cell origin. All 4 high-grade lymphomas (gastrointestinal) were classified as diffuse immunoblastic lymphoma of T-cell origin.  相似文献

Pull-down tests were conducted for apple trees grafted in an orchard and for support posts in order to discuss the failure mode in windthrow damage, the effect of rootstock types on the uprooting strength, and the reinforcing effect of support posts on young trees. The test samples were ten mature trees (20–23 years old) of three varieties grafted on two types of rootstocks, three young trees (7 years old) grafted on dwarf rootstocks, and nine support posts of larch logs and steel pipes. The failure modes were found to be uprooting for mature trees and rootstock breakage for young trees. The uprooting strength of apple trees was considerably smaller than the uprooting strength of forest trees reported in previous studies. However, the windthrow resistance of the apple trees with respect to the critical wind velocity was estimated to be sufficient despite their low uprooting strength because of their small height. Young trees should be supported with wooden posts for a few years after grafting so that they acquire sufficient windthrow resistance. A 1-year-old male thoroughbred racehorse experienced swelling of the left upper lip. The swelling was attributable to enlargement around the incisive bone of the interdental space posterior to the third incisor in the left maxilla. Even after two operations to reduce the bulk of the mass, it continued to increase in size. Dyspnea caused by stenosis of the nasal cavity forced us to perform euthanasia, and a pathological examination was conducted. Macroscopic examination of a section of the mass revealed the formation of multiple areas of solid fibrous tissue, and trabeculae within the incisive bone which had displaced the cortical bone. On histology, the mass was composed of trabecular bone-like structures due to the proliferation and aggregation of fibroblasts. Therefore, we diagnosed it as an ossifying fibroma. Equine ossifying fibroma is characterized by development in the mandible, but was formed in the maxilla in this case. Equine ossifying fibroma has not been reported previously in Japan. This is the first case of equine ossifying fibroma identified in Japan.  相似文献

A 10‐year‐old castrated male miniature dachshund was presented with an abdominal mass. The dog had a history of splenectomy. Triple‐phase helical computed tomography was utilized, revealing a hepatic mass and multiple intra‐abdominal solid masses. In triple‐phase helical computed tomography the images, hepatic mass and two of four intra‐abdominal masses were heterogenous in all phases. Therefore, we diagnosed a malignant hepatic tumor and presumed intra‐abdominal metastases. The masses were surgically removed and were histologically composed of normal spleen tissues, findings which were consistent with ectopic spleen.  相似文献

A 7-year 6-month-old, castrated male Shiba dog presented with a 1-month history of lethargy, anorexia, vomiting, and frequent watery diarrhea. Weight loss, hypoalbuminemia, anemia, and leukocytosis were detected at the first visit. The dog was diagnosed with non-responsive enteropathy (NRE) based on clinical and histopathological examinations. Since the dog did not respond to the immunosuppressive drugs, fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) was performed during the treatment with chlorambucil. A single endoscopic FMT into the cecum and colon drastically recovered clinical signs and clinicopathological abnormalities and corrected dysbiosis in the dog. No recurrence or adverse events were observed. The present case report suggests that FMT, possibly together with chlorambucil, might be a treatment option for NRE in Shiba dogs that have poorer prognosis compared with other dog breeds.  相似文献

It is necessary to take measures against infectious diseases in the Southeast Asian prawn farming industry. In giant tiger prawn (Penaeus monodon) aquaculture, diseases caused by viruses such as white spot syndrome virus (WSSV) and bacteria such as Vibrio have become a menace. Appropriate treatments of prawn culture pond's waters are advocated for preventing and controlling pathogens. The purpose of this study was to conduct an antimicrobial water treatment using a low-voltage pulsed electric field sterilization. Here we prepared a mechanical low-voltage pulsed electric field system with copper wire coiling around a titanium ring. The viability of WSSV in seawater was examined by prawn infectivity experiments. We inoculated healthy prawns (approximately 10-15 g) with the WSSV master sample that passed 0-3 times through the system. WSSV infection in prawns decreased according to the number of passes through the system. Healthy prawns survived for〉 10 days without feeding, where as prawns inoculated with the WSSV master sample showed symptoms of white spot and died in about 4 days. Two-thirds of the prawns inoculated with the WSSV master sample that was passed once through the system developed WSSV symptoms and were polymerase chain reaction (PCR) positive. However, no symptoms were observed and prawns were PCR negative when the WSSV master sample was passed three times through the system. Based on these results, we purpose that a low-voltage pulsed electric field system will serve as an efficient pond drainage sterilization system and will replace conventional treatments using chemicals such as sodium hypochlorite.  相似文献
