Environmental services and landscape goods are rarely incorporated into economic valuation of natural resources, even though these resources may constitute a large proportion of the total ecosystem value, mainly in natural protected areas. The frequent occurrence of wildfires in Spanish protected areas requires a tool, which allows for the comprehensive management of landscape resource and mitigating the potential economic impacts caused by fire. In this paper, we extend the economic valuation theory to the concept of economic vulnerability. Geographic Information System was used to develop a framework for landscape impact assessment using annual landscape value, vegetation resilience and fire behavior. An economic approach of landscape susceptibility was provided by the integration of these three components. Once landscape susceptibility had been spatially characterized, landscape vulnerability was analyzed from criteria associated with landscape susceptibility and burn probability. There was a notable variation in landscape vulnerability ranging from 412,000 Euros to 1,200,000 Euros in Aracena Natural Park (186,828 ha) according to the selected contingent valuation scenario. The availability of cartography of landscape vulnerability could play a critical role in budget optimization and the decision-making process. In this sense, this approach helps managers to identify different efforts according to spatial distribution of the risk and fuel management strategies to increase economic efficiency of fire prevention activities.

Twenty-four Spanish thyme honey samples were analyzed using inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES). Twenty-four minerals were quantified for each honey. The elements Al, As, Ba, Ca, Cr, Cu, Fe, K, Li, Mg, Mn, Na, P, Pb, S, Se, Si, Sr, and Zn were detected in all samples; seven elements are very abundant (Ca, K, Mg, Na, P, S, and Si), and six are not abundant (Al, Cu, Fe, Li, Mn, and Zn). Eleven of them are trace elements (As, Ba, Cd, Co, Cr, Ni, Mo, Pb, Se, Sr, and V) at <1 mg kg(-)(1). Classification of thyme honeys according to their origin (coast, mountains) was achieved by pattern recognition techniques on the mineral data. By means of principal component analysis, a good separation by geographical origin is obtained when scores for the two first principal components are plotted. Classification functions of 11 metals (Al, As, Cr, Cu, K, Li, Mg, Na, P, S, and V) were obtained using stepwise discriminant analysis and applied to classify correctly approximately 100% of the honey samples.  相似文献

Controlling gut inflammation is important in managing gut disorders in the piglet after weaning. Establishing patterns of inflammation markers in the time subsequent to weaning is important for future research to determine whether interventions are effective in controlling gut inflammation. The objective of this study was to evaluate the intestinal inflammatory response during the postweaning period in piglets. A 45-d study included 108 piglets (weaned at 22 d, body weight 5.53 ± 1.19 kg), distributed in 12 pens with nine pigs per pen. Histomorphometry, gene expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines, and the quantity of immunoglobulin (Ig) A producing cells were measured in jejunum, ileum, and colon on days 0, 15, 30, and 45 postweaning. Cytokine gene expression in peripheral blood mononuclear cells and Ig quantities were analyzed in blood from piglets on days 0, 15, 30, and 45 postweaning. Histomorphometrical results showed a lower villus length directly after weaning. Results demonstrated a postweaning intestinal inflammation response for at least 15 d postweaning by upregulation of IgA producing cells and IFN-γ, IL-1α, IL-8, IL-10, IL-12α, and TGF-β in jejunum, ileum, and colon. IgM and IgA were upregulated at day 30 postweaning. IgG was downregulated at day 15 postweaning. The results indicate that weaning in piglets is associated with a prolonged and transient response in gene expression of pro- and anti-inflammatory cytokines and IgA producing cells in the intestine.  相似文献

Red arils of Pithecellobium dulce fruit, commonly known as guamuchil, show high antioxidant (AOx) and α-glucosidase inhibitory (IαG) activities, which have been mainly associated with the content of unknown anthocyanins. In this study, the AOx (i.e., DPPH and ABTS as Trolox equivalents, μmol TE/g) and IαG (as half-maximal inhibitory concentration, IC50, mg/mL) activities of the anthocyanin-rich fraction (ARF) obtained from red arils were contrasted with those of the methanol extract (ME), and the main ARF anthocyanins were characterized by HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS, GC-MS and 1H-NMR. The AOx and IαG values of the ARF (DPPH?=?597.8; ABTS?=?884.01; IαG?=?0.06) were better than those of the ME (DPPH?=?41.5; ABTS?=?142.3; IαG?=?17.5); remarkably, the ARF IαG value was about 42 times lower than that of acarbose. The main anthocyanins in ARF were pelargonidin 3-O-glucoside and cyanidin 3-O-glucoside. Thus, the consumption of red P. dulce arils could provide health benefits for prevention/treatment of chronic degenerative diseases such as diabetes.  相似文献

The effects of pre-anthesis water deficit and cycle length were examined in Papaver somniferum L., cultivated for alkaloid production, in two locations in southern Spain. The vegetative period was shortened by extending the photoperiod through supplemental lighting in the field, while water deficit in pre-anthesis was induced by avoiding irrigations and installing rain shelters. The treatments were: IN (irrigated-normal photoperiod), IL (irrigated-hastened flowering), DN (water deficit in pre-anthesis-normal photoperiod) and DL (water deficit in pre-anthesis and hastened flowering). The artificial photoperiod hastened the flowering by 15 and 21 days, for irrigated and deficit treatments respectively. Seasonal evapotranspiration (ET) ranged from 398 (DN) to 505 mm (IN). There was evidence of root water uptake deeper than 1.5 m. Stomatal conductance was reduced (16%) during water stress, and did not recover in post-anthesis after resuming irrigation. Head yields (capsule + seeds + 7 cm stem) ranged between 3.8 and 4.3 t ha−1; water deficit and short vegetative period both reduced the biomass accumulated, although the effect on yields in these treatments was counterbalanced by a higher harvest index. Early flowering had a detrimental effect on alkaloid concentration in the capsule. Alkaloids yield ranged between 27 and 37 kg ha−1. Water use efficiency (WUE) ranged between 0.78 and 0.96 kg m−3 ET for yield and between 63.4 and 73.7 g m−3 ET for alkaloids. Water stress increased slightly the Water Use Efficiency. A shorter vegetative phase had no effect on WUE for biomass or yield, but decreased the WUE for alkaloids production.  相似文献

An indoor trial was conducted for 28 days to evaluate the effects and interactions of biofloc and seaweed Ulva lactuca in water quality and growth of Pacific white shrimp Litopenaeus vannamei in intensive system. L. vannamei (4.54 ± 0.09 g) were stocked in experimental tanks at a density 132 shrimp m?2 (566 shrimp m?3) and the U. lactuca was stocked at a density 0.46 kg m?2 (2.0 kg m?3). Biofloc with seaweed (BF-S) significantly reduced (P < 0.05) total ammonia nitrogen (TAN) by 25.9 %, nitrite–nitrogen (NO2–N) by 72.8 %, phosphate (PO 4 3 -P) by 24.6 %, and total suspended solids by 12.9 % in the water and significantly increased (P < 0.05) settleable solids by 34.2 % and final weight of shrimp by 6.9 % as compared to biofloc without seaweed. The BF-S can contribute by reducing nitrogen compounds (TAN and NO2–N), phosphate (PO 4 3 -P), and total suspended solids in water and increased final weight of shrimp.  相似文献

For the first time, a spontaneous spawning of hake was recorded in Spain in April 2009. The spawn was obtained from broodstock kept in captivity for two years at the facilities of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography in Vigo (NW Spain). Eggs were transparent, spherical and had an average diameter of 1.067 ± 0.024 mm; yolk occupied the majority of egg volume. The oil droplet had a diameter of 0.27 ± 0.03 mm. The incubation period of the eggs lasted for 4 days at 14°C and the duration from hatching to the total absorption of the yolk sac was between 5–7 days after hatching, at the same temperature. Newly hatched larvae had an average total length of 3.20 ± 0.13 mm and began feeding 6 days after hatching; a daily growth rate of 0.158 mm day‐1 was observed from hatching to yolk sac consumption. This paper describes the daily evolution of biometric and morphological characteristics of the different stages of embryos and larvae of European hake up to the age of 19 days.  相似文献

A qPCR approach was developed to specifically monitor in soils Fusarium graminearum, the main agent responsible for Fusarium Head Blight, and the biocontrol agent Gliocladium catenulatum J1446 (Prestop®). For both fungi, the amplification efficacy of standard curves obtained by mixing pure fungal DNA and soil background DNA was high (qPCR efficacy>96% with R2?>?0.97) with a linear range from 10?3 ng to 10 ng/μL. Our qPCR method allowed quantifying down to 1 μg of F. graminearum and G. catenulatum J1446 mycelium per g of soil. The strong correlation observed between fungal biomass and quantified DNA (R2?=?0.9927 and 0.9356 for F. graminearum and G. catenulatum J1446, respectively) supported the use of the primers to monitor both fungi in soils. Under our experimental conditions, the ability of Prestop® to reduce F. graminearum growth was significantly higher in autoclaved soil compared to living soils, suggesting that there is an antagonistic effect of the soil microbial communities. In contrast, G. catenulatum J1446 growth was mostly not affected by the presence of F. graminearum and was able to persist in both autoclaved and living soils after 15 days of incubation. These results indicate that our qPCR approach may be used to assess the success of soil colonization by a biocontrol agent and its control efficacy by monitoring the dynamics of the BCA and the targeted pathogen in soil.  相似文献

Although some simple erosive processes like soil creep or tillage redistribution may be satisfactorily described by linear diffusive equations, the complexity of erosion phenomena requires the use of more complete nonlinear equations. Roering et al. [Roering, J.J., Kichner, J.W., Dietrich, W.E., 1999. Evidence for nonlinear, diffusive transport on hillslopes and implications for landscape morphology. Water Resour. Res., 35 853–870.] have proposed a single test, based on the relationship between the curvature and gradient of a hillslope, rather then using a linear diffusion equation. Nevertheless this test, based on steady state conditions, is not complete as it is shown in this work with a counter-example. The hillslope profile used by Roering et al. [Roering, J.J., Kichner, J.W., Dietrich, W.E., 1999. Evidence for nonlinear, diffusive transport on hillslopes and implications for landscape morphology. Water Resour. Res., 35 853–870.], (Fig. 2) can be generated either by a linear diffusion equation under transient conditions or a nonlinear diffusion equation under steady state conditions. Additional information on the soil profile changes would give a more complete interpretation of the hillslope evolution.  相似文献
