The aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial activity of C.I. Basic Red 18:1 (D1) and C.I. Basic Yellow 51 (D2)
cationic dyes and dyed acrylic fabrics against the common pathogens Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. C.I. Basic Red 18:1 dye was most effective against the test bacteria E. coli, S. aureus and P. aeruginosa in vitro whereas C.I. Basic Yellow 51 had a lesser effect. The acrylic fabrics dyed with these dyes, however, showed less
antimicrobial activity depending on the dyeing depth. It can be said that acrylic fabrics dyed with these dyes inhibit bacterial

Eighty isolates ofVerticillium dahliae from the southeastern Anatolia region and 20 isolates from the east Mediterranean region from wilted cotton plants were used for vegetative compatibility analysis employing nitrate non-utilizing mutants and reference tester strains of vegetative compatibility groups (VCGs) 1A, 2A, 2B, 3, 4A and 4B. Of the 100V. dahliae isolates, 49 were assigned to VCG1A, 39 to VCG2B, nine to VCG2A and three to VCG4B. Pathogenicity assays were conducted on susceptible cotton cv. Çukurova 1518 in the greenhouse. All VCG1A isolates induced defoliation and all VCG2B isolates caused partial defoliation symptoms. Isolates of VCG2A and VCG4B caused typical symptoms of leaf chlorosis without defoliation. This is the first report on VCGs ofV. dahliae in the southeastern Anatolia region of Turkey, which demonstrates that VCG1A of the cotton-defoliating type and VCG2B of the partially defoliating type are prevalent in this region. 相似文献

The toxicity of six pesticides (four insecticides and two fungicides) to Orius majusculus (Reuter) (Hemiptera: Anthocoridae) adults and nymphs was determined using different exposure methods. Mortality upon topical
exposure to abamectin, endosulfan and spinosad at recommended field doses ranged from 56% to 100% after 24 h. However, in
leaf residue tests, toxicity to both life stages decreased significantly, ranging from 0% to 33% mortality. Benomyl and copper
salts + mancozeb (fungicides) were much less toxic to O. majusculus, with less than 15% mortality of either adults or nymphs in topical and residue bioassays. In persistent toxicity tests,
insects were exposed to the same three insecticides for 4 days; mortality varied from 38% to 100%. Egg hatching was not significantly
affected when abamectin, endosulfan and spinosad were topically applied. Number of eggs laid per female in choice and no-choice
tests did not differ significantly from the control. The insecticides did not show considerable repellent effect in the choice
tests. Topical, residue and systemic uptake methods were also compared to determine the differences in the toxicity levels
of imidacloprid, a systemic insecticide. However, 100% mortality occurred with all methods. 相似文献

In our previous studies, we found a new Zeitlupe (ZTL) type F-box protein which is expressed at a higher level upon avirulent pathogen infection (Bozkurt et al., 2007). F-box proteins mark the proteins to be degraded through 26S proteasome system by ubiquitination. Since the information on the role of ubiquitin mediated proteolysis in disease responses is advancing rapidly, we sought to understand the way which F-box functions in resistance response as part of ubiquitin–proteasome pathway. Interestingly, in response to silencing of this F-box gene via BSMV mediated virus induced gene silencing (VIGS) method, barley plants lost resistance towards avirulent pathogen race. The Pallas-01 line having Mla1 R-gene showed hyphae formations when inoculated with avirulent powdery mildew race, Bgh103, after 4-fold silencing. This observation suggests that F-box protein functions as a positive regulator in powdery mildew disease mechanism and broadens the function of ZTL-type F-box proteins, previously known to have roles only in circadian clocks, flowering time control, and phytochrome pathway. 相似文献

Reference genes are essential for the normalisation of the expression data of quantitative real-time PCR for the purposes of validation. Although several reference genes have been validated for the olive, comprehensive analyses including an excessive number of candidate reference genes still require study in various olive tissue samples. In this work, a total of 40 candidate reference genes were tested for their stability in 8 different olive tissues (root, apical bud, lateral bud, pedicel, young leaf, mature leaf, fruit mesocarp, and seed) with the utilisation of the most popular software programs including GeNorm, NormFinder, BestKeeper, and ΔCt. The analyses of expression stability of candidate reference genes using quantitative real-time PCR demonstrated ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme (UBC1) as the most stable reference gene for the studied tissues of the olive. The GeNorm software also calculated the optimum reference gene combinations as two which consist of UBC1 and the Clathrin adaptor complex medium subunit (CLATHRIN) genes. This study provides the most stable reference gene combination for normalisation of target genes for quantitative real-time PCR gene expression studies on the olive. 相似文献

The objectives of this study were to evaluate the effects of 2‐phenoxyethanol (2‐PE), which is an anaesthetic, on survival rates of normal juveniles and malformed juveniles having lordosis or nonfunctional swim bladders of European sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax L., 1758) and to establish the LC50 (the concentration lethal to 50% of test animals at concentrations of 0.05, 0.1, 0.15, 0.2, 0.25, 0.3, 0.35, 0.4 and 4.5 mL L−1) and LT50 (the time lethal to 50% of test animals after 10‐, 20‐, 30‐, 40‐, 50‐ and 60‐min time periods) of 2‐PE at 19±0.5°C, salinity 38 g L−1, pH 7.4–7.8 and dissolved oxygen >8 mg L−1. Between concentrations of 0.05 and 0.25 mL L−1, 2‐PE did not cause any mortality or toxicity on normal, lordosis and nonfunctional swimbladder juveniles of sea bass during the 60‐min exposure period. On the other hand, significance in each group fish in their mortality rates between concentrations of 0.30 and 0.45 mL L−1 was observed (P<0.05). The nonfunctional swimbladder juveniles showed lower LC50 than normal and lordosis juveniles respectively. Also, nonfunctional swimbladders juveniles showed lower LT50 than normal and lordosis juveniles respectively. At concentrations of 0.30, 0.35, 0.40 and 0.45 mL L−1, induction times were found to be significantly different among the three groups (P<0.05). Recovery times were not found to be significantly different in two groups at concentrations of 0.30 and 0.40 mL L−1 (P>0.05). The toxic effect of 2‐PE on sea bass juveniles increased depending on the exposure times (P<0.05). The most suitable concentrations of 2‐PE were 0.30–0.35 mL L−1 between minutes 10 and 30, although the normal juveniles can resist to 0.45 mL L−1 of 2‐PE concentration for 20 min. The 2‐PE showed toxicity in relation to the concentrations and exposure time combinations among the three groups in the order; nonfunctional swimbladder fish >lordosis fish >normal fish. 相似文献

The photocatalytic degradation of organic dyes using TiO2 andsilver-loaded TiO2 has beenstudied. The dyes which were chosen (methyl violet, a cationicdye; Cibacron Blue FMR, areactive dye; and Maxilon Red GRL, a mono azo basic dye)represent the major structuralfamilies of organic dyes. Ag-loading dramatically reduceddegradation time. While theundoped TiO2 degraded about 63% of the total amount ofmethyl violet within 4 min,degradation rose to 95% with Ag-loaded TiO2 within the sametime period. Micronutrient deficiency and malnutrition in humans are severe problems in many developing countries, particularly in areas with calcareous soils. There is almost no information on whether inoculation with plant growth–promoting Azospirillum and/or Trichoderma can help to reduce this problem by increasing the mineral concentration of the seeds. Field experiments were conducted in Tokat (Turkey) in 2001–2002 to determine whether inoculation with Azospirillum brasilense, Trichoderma harzianum, sole or in combination, and/or the application of P fertilizers can enhance micronutrient concentrations of field‐grown bean (Phaseolus vulgaris) and wheat (Triticum aestivum). In beans, Azospirillum inoculation combined with P fertilization significantly (p < 0.05) increased seed concentrations of Mn, Zn, and Cu, from 8.8, 22.6, and 7.0 mg kg–1 in the control to 10.3, 28.3, and 11.0 mg kg–1, respectively. Trichoderma inoculation alone significantly (p < 0.05) reduced the concentrations of Fe, Mn, Zn, and Cu and the cumulative plant uptake of Fe and Zn in 45‐day‐old bean plants. However, it significantly (p < 0.05) increased bean‐seed Cu content and accumulation. The double inoculation resulted in significantly (p < 0.05) higher micronutrient concentrations than Trichoderma inoculation alone in 45‐day‐old plants. In contrast to beans, the effects of microbial inoculations were less in wheat. However, dual inoculation significantly (p < 0.05) increased Zn content by 45% and Zn accumulation by 40% above the uninoculated control. Inoculation with plant growth–promoting microorganisms appears to be a promising strategy to combat micronutrient deficiencies. 相似文献

Antioxidant activities and phenolic compositions of the active fractions of Salvia virgata Jacq. (Lamiaceae) from Turkey were examined. The aerial part of S. virgata was extracted with different solvents in an order of increasing polarity such as hexane, ethyl acetate, methanol, and 50% aqueous methanol using a Soxhlet apparatus. Water extract was also prepared from S. virgata by reflux. All solvent fractions were investigated for their total phenolic contents, total flavonoids, flavonols, qualitative-quantitative compositions (by HPLC-PDA analysis), iron(III) reductive activities, free radical scavenging activities (using DPPH*), and effect upon linoleic acid peroxidation activities; also, the peroxidation level was determined by the TBA method. The results of activity tests given as IC50 values were estimated from nonlinear algorithm and compared with standards, viz., butylated hydroxytoluene, ascorbic acid, and gallic acid. Polar fractions were found to be more active for free radical activity whereas nonpolar fractions protected the peroxidation of linoleic acid. Rosmarinic acid was the most abundant component in the extracts, followed by caffeic acid and lutelin-7- O-glycoside. 相似文献
