Two clonal selections of lemon tree (Citrus limon Burm. f. cv. Fino), named Fino-49-5 and Fino-95, were studied to ascertain the influence of genetic (clone) and environmental (season) factors on the human-health bioactive compounds of lemon juice (vitamin C and flavonoids) and the possible relationship between composition and in vitro antioxidant capacity (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethyl-benzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid), and ferric reducing antioxidant power) of the juice. The cultivar Fino-49-5 performed better in terms of flavonoid and vitamin C contents. Variability in the weather conditions determined, at least in part, differences in the content of lemon juice bioactives more importantly than the genetic background did. Therefore, the food industry would have phytochemically rich and nutritive lemons with practically complete independence of the harvest time and the selected cultivar.  相似文献

Various Orobanche species (broomrapes) are serious weed problems and cause severe reduction on yields in many important crops. Seeds of these parasitic weeds may remain dormant in the soil for many years until germination is stimulated by the release of a chemical signal by roots of a host plant. Some fungal metabolites, such as ophiobolin A and fusicoccin derivatives, were assayed to determine their capacity to stimulate the seed germination of several Orobanche species. The results obtained showed that the stimulation of seed germination is species-dependent and also affected by the concentration of the stimulant. Among ophiobolin A, fusicoccin, and its seven derivatives, tested in the concentration range of 10 (-4)-10 (-7) M, the highest stimulatory effect was observed for ophiobolin A and the hexacetyl and pentacetyl isomers of 16- O-demethyl-de- tert-pentenylfusicoccin prepared by chemical modification of the fusicoccin, while the other fusicoccin derivatives appeared to be practically inactive. The most sensitive species appeared to be O. aegyptica, O. cumana, O. minor, and to a lesser extent, O. ramosa.  相似文献

Avena fatua L. (wild oat) and Lolium rigidum Gaud. (rigid ryegrass) are highly problematic weeds affecting a wide variety of cereal crops worldwide. The fact that both of these weeds have developed resistance to several herbicide groups made them optimal candidates as target organisms for ongoing research about the potential application of allelochemicals and analogue compounds as natural herbicide models. Benzoxazinones, a family of natural allelochemicals present in corn, wheat, and rye, including 2,4-dihydroxy-(2H)-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one and 2,4-dihydroxy-7-methoxy-(2H)-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one, together with some degradation products, found in crop soils as well as in other systems, and some synthetic analogues of them were tested on wild oat and rigid ryegrass seeds; the results were statistically treated, and some structure-activity relationships, useful in further development of natural herbicide models, were elucidated. The most active compounds were the synthetic benzoxazinone 2-acetoxy-(2H)-1,4-benzoxazin-3(4H)-one and the degradation product 2-aminophenoxazin-3-one, with highly significant inhibition on the development of both weeds. The ecological role of these compounds is discussed by considering both degradability and phytotoxicity. The bioactivity of aminophenoxazines has been correlated by their aqueous solubility-lipophilicity predicted by means of computational methods.  相似文献

Neuronal networks in vivo are characterized by considerable spontaneous activity, which is highly complex and intrinsically generated by a combination of single-cell electrophysiological properties and recurrent circuits. As seen, for example, during waking compared with being asleep or under anesthesia, neuronal responsiveness differs, concomitant with the pattern of spontaneous brain activity. This pattern, which defines the state of the network, has a dramatic influence on how local networks are engaged by inputs and, therefore, on how information is represented. We review here experimental and theoretical evidence of the decisive role played by stochastic network states in sensory responsiveness with emphasis on activated states such as waking. From single cells to networks, experiments and computational models have addressed the relation between neuronal responsiveness and the complex spatiotemporal patterns of network activity. The understanding of the relation between network state dynamics and information representation is a major challenge that will require developing, in conjunction, specific experimental paradigms and theoretical frameworks.  相似文献

Objective

To describe ultrasound-visualized anatomy and the spread characteristics of a dye injected in the thoracic paravertebral (TPV) space under ultrasound guidance.

Study design

Anatomic cadaver study.

Animals

Seven dog cadavers.

Methods

One cadaver was used to observe, identify, and describe the relevant TPV anatomy. In the remaining six, the left fifth TPV space was randomly assigned to be injected with either a low volume (LV; 0.05 mL kg?1) or high volume (HV; 0.15 mL kg?1) of dye. Subsequently, the contralateral side was injected with the alternative volume. Anatomic dissections were conducted to determine the incidence of complete spinal nerve staining (>1 cm circumferential coverage), number of contiguous spinal nerves dyed and the absence or presence of solution in particular locations.

Results

The ultrasound-visualized anatomy of the TPV space was defined as the intercostal space abaxial to the vertebral body, delimited by the parietal pleura ventrally and the internal intercostal membrane dorsally. The endothoracic fascia divides the paravertebral space into dorsal and ventral compartments. The target nerve was completely dyed in five of six and six of six injections in the LV and HV conditions, respectively. In one LV injection, the nerve was partially dyed. No multisegmental spread affecting contiguous spinal nerves was found in either treatment. Multisegmental spread was found in the ventral compartment of the TPV space, affecting the sympathetic trunk on 3 (0–3) and 3.5 (1–6) vertebral spinal levels in the LV and HV conditions, respectively, but differences between volumes were not significant. No intrapleural, ventral mediastinal or epidural migration was observed.

Conclusions and clinical relevance

Ultrasound-guided TPV block is a potentially reliable technique. The LV appeared sufficient to dye a single spinal nerve and multiple sympathetic trunk vertebral levels. Multiple TPV injections may be needed to provide adequate thoracic analgesia in dogs undergoing thoracic surgery.  相似文献

Species distribution models are used to aid our understanding of the processes driving the spatial patterns of species’ habitats. This approach has received criticism, however, largely because it neglects landscape metrics. We examined the relative impacts of landscape predictors on the accuracy of habitat models by constructing distribution models at regional scales incorporating environmental variables (climate, topography, vegetation, and soil types) and secondary species occurrence data, and using them to predict the occurrence of 36 species in 15 forest fragments where we conducted rapid surveys. We then selected six landscape predictors at the landscape scale and ran general linear models of species presence/absence with either a single scale predictor (the probabilities of occurrence of the distribution models or landscape variables) or multiple scale predictors (distribution models + one landscape variable). Our results indicated that distribution models alone had poor predictive abilities but were improved when landscape predictors were added; the species responses were not, however, similar to the multiple scale predictors. Our study thus highlights the importance of considering landscape metrics to generate more accurate habitat suitability models.  相似文献

The link between rheological behavior and morphological‐structural characteristics of gelatinized starch granules has been studied in two starch dispersions (SDs): a cross‐linked waxy maize (CLWM), and tapioca starch, a tuber starch with 19.3 % amylose. Based on the power law relationship between the elastic modulus and volume fraction of the granules predicted by scaling theory, fractal dimension values were obtained for CLWM starch D = 2.81, and tapioca starch D = 2.79, suggesting that both starch granules have highly convoluted surfaces. However, the preexponential coefficient (G⊘=1) for CLWM SDs was an order of magnitude greater than that for tapioca SDs, in the same range of volume fractions. The G⊘=1 was mainly dependent on the granule rigidity, and the amylose content in the continuous phase played only a minor role in the rheological behavior.  相似文献
