The effect on true potato seed (TPS) weight of supplemental nitrogen (N) applied during seed development was investigated using crosses DTO-33 × R128.6 (“A” produced in the field) and Atzimba × R128.6 (“B” produced in the field and in a screenhouse). Dry weights of tops and tubers of the mother plants were also measured in the screenhouse. The response to supplemental N (0-240 kg/ha) in 100-TPS weight of cross A and B from the field was positive and linear. In the screenhouse, where higher total N (0-1200 kg/ha) was applied, the responses in 100-TPS weight and dry weight of tops and tubers were curvilinear, with maximum levels at 800, 1000 and 400 kg/ha, respectively. The 100-TPS weight of cross B was 40% higher in the field than in the screenhouse. In the field, increased frequency of supplemental N applications increased 100-TPS weight of large and medium berries of cross B, but had no effect on seed from small berries nor on seed from any berries of cross A. In the screenhouse, increased application frequency decreased tuber dry weight and increased dry weight of tops, but had no effect on 100-TPS weight. It was concluded that supplemental N must be applied during seed development and at higher total levels than those required for optimum tuber yields in order to maximize 100-TPS weight. The lower seed weight from the screenhouse suggests that other environmental factors (e.g., temperature) present during growth of the mother plant can affect the weight of the resultant TPS.  相似文献

Aflatoxicosis is a growing problem in aquaculture. A 42‐day study was designed to evaluate the efficacy of conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and curcumin (CUR) to protect juvenile Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) from aflatoxins. Growth parameters along with alkaline phosphatase (ALP) and glutathione S‐transferase (GST) activities were measured. Shrimps (36) with an average weight of 76 ± 0.9 mg were randomly allocated in eight experimental groups. Non‐contaminated diet (NCD) and aflatoxin‐contaminated diet (ACD) at 200 μg/kg were prepared. ACD was used to prepare six diets supplemented with CLA (4, 5 or 6 g/kg) and CUR (0.15, 0.2 and 0.3 g/kg). ACD reduced feed intake, growth rate and nitrogen retention efficiency, and increased ALP and GST activity. Improved nitrogen retention was observed for all groups feed with CLA. CUR supplementation at 0.2 g/kg increased feed intake and growth rate while at 0.15 g/kg increased nitrogen retention. ALP activity was reduced in all CUR groups and in 5 and 6 g/kg CLA groups. Reduction in GST activity was observed in 0.15 and 0.2 g/kg CUR groups and 4 g/kg CLA group. CLA supplementation and CUR supplementation can be beneficial to protect juvenile shrimp against aflatoxins.  相似文献

Use of big bale silage and haylage can be difficult on farms where daily forage consumption is comparatively low as speed of deterioration of forage after bale opening may be faster than feed-out rate. Production of smaller bales at harvest is possible, but expensive and work-intensive. Therefore, a pilot study of rebaling forage stored in big bales to smaller bales was conducted. Three separate experiments were included, where microbial and chemical composition of silage and haylage was studied before and after rebaling. In Experiment III, residual big bale forage stored and opened together with rebaled forage was included. Results showed that rebaled haylage and silage had higher yeast counts compared to initial forage; however, residual bales in Experiment III had yeast counts similar to rebaled forage, indicating an effect of storage time rather than of rebaling. In Experiment II, mould counts were higher in rebaled compared to initial silage, but not in haylage. Chemical composition was similar in initial and rebaled forage except for ammonia-N. In Experiment III, ammonia-N was higher in rebaled compared to initial and residual forage and was the only chemical variable affected by rebaling. Bale temperature during aerobic storage followed ambient temperature until day 6–8 in Experiment I and until day 14 in Experiment III where ambient temperature was lower. In conclusion, rebaling can be done without large changes in chemical composition of the forage, but yeast and mould counts may be higher in rebaled forage, and this risk should be considered when using this procedure.  相似文献

Fitzroya cupressoides (Cupressaceae) is an endemic and long-lived conifer of southern Chile and Argentina (40–43° S). This species has been subject to continuous exploitation since the 16th century, causing extensive population decline. Historically, the main labour force for the exploitation of F. cupressoides (alerce) was the indigenous Mapuche-Huilliche population, first under the command of the Spanish settlers and later, of non-indigenous Chileans. In coastal forests, timber of alerce has been harvested by Huilliche communities as well as by Chilean and international forestry companies. Records of the regeneration of this pioneer tree after exploitation in the Andean mountains have generally shown limited regeneration depending on the intensity of harvest. Because indigenous exploitation does not use machinery for timber harvesting, and is supposedly less utilitarian than commercial harvest, I propose that areas in the Coastal Range harvested by Huilliche communities should present higher regeneration of alerce than areas harvested by forestry companies. To test this hypothesis, I sampled 10 stands harvested and abandoned by forestry companies and 10 stands harvested by Huilliche communities in the coastal range of the Osorno Province (41° S, 400–800 m). In each stand, I estimated the density of regeneration (sapling stage), number of stumps, number of live adults, and the number of standing and fallen dead alerce. Each stand was characterized by elevation, forest-type, incidence of fire, and vegetation cover. Results showed that forests harvested by Huilliches had higher numbers of live, remnant adult trees with a dbh ≥ 60 cm than forests harvested by timber companies. The number of stumps with a dbh ≥60 cm was significantly higher in stands harvested by timber companies than in Huilliche stands. Despite large differences in sapling densities among stands, regeneration density of alerce was unrelated to the type of harvest used by indigenous people or forestry companies.  相似文献

In recent years, maize has become one of the main alternative crops for the Autumn–Winter growing season (off-season) in several regions of Brazil. Water deficits, sub-optimum temperatures and low solar radiation levels are some of the more common problems that are experienced during this growing season. However, the impact of variable weather conditions on crop production can be analyzed with crop simulation models. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the Cropping System Model (CSM)-CERES-Maize for its ability to simulate growth, development, grain yield for four different maturity maize hybrids grown off-season in a subtropical region of Brazil, to study the impact of different planting dates on maize performance under rainfed and irrigated conditions, and for yield forecasting for the most common off-season production system. The CSM-CERES-Maize model was evaluated with experimental data collected during three field experiments conducted in Piracicaba, SP, Brazil. The experiments were completely randomized with three replications for the 2001 experiment and four replications for the 2002 experiments. For the yield forecasting application, daily weather data for 2002 were used until the forecast date, complemented with 25 years of historical daily weather data for the remainder of the growing season. Six planting dates were simulated, starting on February 1 and repeated every 15 days until April 15. The evaluation of the CSM-CERES-Maize showed that the model was able to simulate phenology and grain yield for the four hybrids accurately, with normalized RMSE (expressed in percentage) less than 15%. The planting date analysis showed that a delayed planting date from February 1 to April 15 caused a decrease in average yield of 55% for the rainfed and 21% for the irrigated conditions for all hybrids. The yield forecasting analysis demonstrated that an accurate yield forecast could be provided at approximately 45 days prior to the harvest date for all four maize hybrids. These results are promising for farmers and decision makers, as they could have access to accurate yield forecasts prior to final harvest. However, to be able to make practical decisions for stock management of maize grains, it is necessary to develop this methodology for different locations. Future model evaluations might also be needed due to the release of new cultivars by breeders.  相似文献
