This study hypothesizes that melatonin with exogenous progesterone (CIDR) can improve follicular, luteal, ovarian and uterine haemodynamic of heat-stressed cows. Holstein cows (N = 12) studied for two spontaneous oestrous cycles during winter then divided equally during summer into the CIDR group received CIDR for 7 days and the melatonin group (Mel) received three injections of melatonin (75 mg/head) at the CIDR insertion, removal and ovulation days. Blood samples were collected to assay oestradiol (E2), progesterone (P4) and nitric oxide (NO). On day 0 (Ovulation), Mel had more small follicles (p < .05), higher ipsilateral and contralateral ovarian arteries (Ov.A.) peak systolic velocity (PSV), higher ipsilateral uterine artery (Ut.A.) PSV (p = .031) and blood flow volume (BFV), also Mel elevated contralateral Ut.A. PSV and BFV (p < .0001) but lowered contra Ut.A. pulsatility index (PI, p < .0001), E2 (p < .01) and NO (p < .0001). Mel increased the corpus luteum diameter (CL, p < .001), coloured area (p < .007) and P4 (p < .0001) on day 5 and reduced them (p < .05; p < .01) on Day 14. On day 10, Mel obtained CL diameter (p < .03) and coloured area (p < .002) of spontaneous that was higher than CIDR and decreased P4 (p < .003). Mel increased CL diameter, area and coloured area and decreased them thereafter. Mel increased the ipsilateral ovarian and uterine arteries PSV and BFV before ovulation and until day 8. Mel increased P4 and decreased NO until days 6 and 14. In conclusion, the improvement in follicular, luteal, ovarian and uterine haemodynamic and the decrease of NO production proved our hypothesis Melatonin doses higher than 75 mg/head is recommended to improve the heat-stressed cow's fertility. 相似文献

Seedlings of sugar beet (Beta vulgaris) were grown in nutrient solutions containing a range of Cu and Zn concentrations. Based on measurements of shoot and root length and dry weight, copper was found to be already toxic at 10 μM, while Zn became toxic at 100 μM. At Cu and Zn levels found to induce a similar level of growth inhibiton, the influence of increasing the supply of K, Ca and Mg was investigated. Increasing the concentration of both Ca and Mg in the nutrient solution attenuated the degree of inhibition of root growth by Zn, but not Cu. Potassium did not affect the toxicity of either Cu or Zn. An increase in Ca decreased the level of both Cu and Zn in roots. Magnesium ameliorated the toxicity effects of Zn without effecting the Zn concentration in the roots. Treatment with Zn significantly decreased the concentration of Mg in the roots. An increased supply of Mg lowered the percentage decrease in root Mg concentration due to Zn toxicity. The maintenance of an adequate Mg level in the roots may be critical to prevent Zn induced inhibition of root growth. 相似文献

A study was conducted at the experimental farm of Faculty of Agriculture, Ain Shams University, Cairo, Egypt, during two successive summer seasons (2014 and 2015) to investigate the effects of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (Glomus irradicans 10% w/w), Bacillus megaterium (10?ml/pot) and brassinosteroids (24-EBL, C28H48O6; 2?µM) on growth, nutrient absorption, chlorophyll, proline content, antioxidant enzymes activity and fruit yield of sweet pepper plants (Capsicum annuum L.) cv. Marconi. Plants were grown under three levels of salinity (0, 25 and 50?mM). The obtained results showed that plants grown under non-saline water (0?mM NaCl), with or without treatments, significantly gave the most vigorous vegetative growth and had the highest fruit yield compared with those grown under salt stress conditions. All anti-salinity treatments (Mycorrhiza, Bacillus and Brassinosteroids) improved growth when compared with untreated plants (control). Plants inoculated with mycorrhiza or treated with brassinosteroids showed better vegetative growth and shoot biomass (total fresh and dry weight per plant), chlorophyll a and b concentrations, antioxidant content expressed as total soluble phenols and proline concentrations at all studied salinity levels followed by plants inoculated with Bacillus megaterium compared with control plants which showed severe growth retardant especially under higher salt concentration (50?mM). Carotenoids concentration increased proportionally with the increase of salinity concentration. The maximum leaf relative water content (LRWC) and lowest values of membrane permeability (MP) were significantly observed with mychorhiza inoculated plants and brassinosteroid application respectively, followed by Bacillus inoculated plants. Antioxidant enzyme activity were highest in plants irrigated with moderate saline water (25?mM) than plants under high salinity irrigation water (50?mM) except polyphenol oxidase (PPO) as compared with unstressed plants (0?mM). Mycorrhizal inoculated plants accumulated higher K and lower Na and Cl followed by plants treated with brassinosteroids and then plants inoculated with Bacillus megaterium. Anti-salinity treatments positively enhanced fruit yield of sweet pepper plants under all salinity stress levels and the highest fruit yield were significantly observed with brassinosteroid application followed by mychorhiza inoculated plants and then Bacillus inoculated plants. 相似文献

Growing interest in sustainable agriculture has prompted this study aiming to evaluate nutritional content of rice grain produced from an organic production system. Here, we grew nine quality rice cultivars under organic methods in the wet and dry seasons, and the nutritional values, grain quality, and physiological parameters were compared with respective cultivars grown under the standard cultivation method (SCM). Obtained results revealed that the yield and plant height were lower, but tillering capacity was higher, in the organic field compared with the standard one. The organic crop showed significantly lower contents of protein and phytate compared with reference values under the SCM. Antioxidative capacity and its responsible phytochemicals such as phenolics, flavonoids, and γ‐oryzanol were also significantly higher under organic cultivation than under the SCM. Among physicochemical characteristics, apparent amylose content, gel consistency, and area and perimeter of grain were also higher in the organic crops, but hulling quality, milling quality, head rice recovery, and all other cooking qualities were at par. Higher crude oil and lower total protein content of rice bran were observed in the organic crop, but ash, fiber, and moisture contents did not vary significantly in these two cultivation systems. 相似文献
