Several conifer nurseries were visited in Piedmont (Italy) and soil and root-samples were taken and examined for plant-parasitic nematodes. The postpartum (PP) period in the Pelibuey ewe was studied. Laparotomies were performed on 14 ewes in the first year at d 10, 20 and 30 PP, and at d 10 and 20 PP in the second year on 17 ewes. Progesterone concentrations were determined in serum taken daily, from 4 to 7 d after parturition until estrus. Temporal fluctuation of luteinizing hormone (LH) was determined in samples taken at 30-min intervals for 4 h weekly. The mean interval from lambing to first ovulation was longer (P less than .001) in 1980 (59 +/- 4.9 d) than 1979 (26 +/- 3.1 d), the mean interval from lambing to first estrus was also longer (P less than .001) in 1980 (91 +/- 5.6 d) than 1979 (51 +/- 5.5 d). Follicles were present on the ovaries of the majority of the ewes at d 10. The mean diameter of the largest follicles on each ovary was reduced (P less than .025) in ewes in 1980 (6 mm) compared with 1979 (7.7 mm). Corpora lutea (CL) occurred in 67 and 75% of the ewes by d 20 and 30, respectively in 1979; no CL were found by d 20 in 1980. Progesterone profiles suggested that the PP period was composed of a period of anestrus, and a period of cyclic ovarian activity with one, two or three ovulations without behavioral estrus. In some ewes, the first cycle was of shorter duration, and its CL secreted less progesterone (P less than .05) relative to CL of silent and regular estrous cycles. Luteinizing hormone peaks were recorded as early as 6 d PP. When progesterone concentrations were elevated to luteal phase levels, the frequency, but not magnitude, of LH peaks per 4-h bleeding period was reduced (P less than .05) relative to anestrus. Corneal vascular neoplasms (hemangioma and hemangiosarcoma) are rare in all species. Reported cases are single case reports in a single species. Archived cases of corneal hemangioma and hemangiosarcoma from dogs, cats, and horses were obtained from the Comparative Ocular Pathology Lab of Wisconsin (COPLOW, Madison, WI), tabulated, and examined. This retrospective study describes the breeds, ages, tumor types, and characteristics of vascular neoplasms that appeared to be primarily corneal in location, in feline, canine, and equine patients, with gross and histologic images. The effect of undesalted dissolved organic matter (DOM) extracted from composts on the degradation, adsorption, and mobility of cyhalofop herbicide in soils was studied. A paddy-field sediment poor in organic matter (OM), an OM-rich forest soil, and DOM from agroindustrial or municipal waste compost were used. DOM increased the cyhalofop-acid but not the cyhalofop-butyl solubility in water. The degradation of cyhalofop-butyl in the sediment was slow, giving cyhalofop-acid as the only metabolite, whereas in forest soil, the process was faster, and three byproducts were detected. Soil pretreatment with DOM did not modify the degradation pattern but only reduced the adsorption of cyhalofop-butyl by soil, whereas it increased the adsorption of cyhalofop-acid. Among the cationic components of DOM solutions, the potassium ion seems to be related to the increased adsorption of the cyhalofop-acid in both OM-poor and OM-rich soils, yielding reversible complexes with the former and favoring hydrophobic interactions with the latter. 相似文献

Paracetamol is an antipyretic analgesic widely used globally. It has been recurrently found in water bodies and is known to elicit toxic effects in aquatic species; however, its potential ability to induce oxidative stress in sentinel species remains unknown The objective was to establish a methodology to evaluate the toxicity elicited on the sentinel species Hyalella azteca by paracetamol-enriched sediment using oxidative stress tests. Concentrations used in assays were determined using the previously obtained median lethal concentration (72?h LC50). The following oxidative stress biomarkers were evaluated: lipid peroxidation (LPO), protein carbonyl content (PCC) in order to determine oxidized protein content, and the activity of the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), and glutathione peroxidase (GPX). LPO and PCC increased significantly while SOD, CAT, and GPX decreased significantly (p?<?0.05) with respect to controls. Paracetamol induces oxidative stress on H. azteca, and the set of tests employed is helpful in evaluating the toxicity of this group of pharmaceuticals on aquatic species. 相似文献

A study was undertaken to investigate the stability of cyhalofop-butyl (2 R)-2-[4-(4-cyano-2-fluorophenoxy)phenoxy]butylpropanoate (CyB), an aryloxyphenoxy-propionic herbicide, at different pH values. The hydrolysis of CyB was faster in nonsterile than in sterile water. In sterile medium, CyB degraded only to (2 R)-2-[4-(4-cyano-2-fluorophenoxy)phenoxy]propanoic acid (CyA), whereas in nonsterile water, also the metabolites (2 R)-2-[4-(4-carbamoyl-2-fluorophenoxy)phenoxy]propanoic acid (CyAA) and (2 R)-2-[4-(4-carboxyl-2-fluorophenoxy)phenoxy]propanoic acid (CyD) were detected. The adsorption of CyB onto clays, iron oxide, and dissolved organic matter (DOM), using a batch equilibrium method, was also studied. A lipophilic bond is responsible for CyB adsorption on DOM. CyB was adsorbed on Fe(III)- and Ca-clays through hydrogen bonding between the carbonyl oxygen and water surrounding the exchangeable cations. In the interlayer of K-clay, CyB was hydrolyzed to CyA, which remained adsorbed therein as a monomer. The acid CyA was adsorbed only by the Fe-oxide through complexation. The CyA-Fe-oxide complex was stable and did not undergo degradation. 相似文献

- Marine ecosystems are highly affected by several human stressors. In this context, beyond passive restoration measures such as the creation of marine protected areas, it is urgent that we explore active restoration measures to enhance and accelerate the recovery of sessile marine species.
- Bryozoans are among the most common sessile invertebrates in rocky bottom ecosystems and are considered habitat‐forming species that are highly vulnerable to physical disturbances, such as recreational diving, ghost fishing nets, and global warming, which makes them highly vulnerable to other impacts. Despite their ecological importance and vulnerability, to date restoration actions for bryozoans have rarely been explored.
- In this study, different restoration techniques were developed and tested, with a focus on two types of effective methodologies previously applied to other marine invertebrates: recruitment enhancement and the transplantation of adult colonies, in both cases using the Mediterranean bryozoan Pentapora fascialis as a model species.
- First, different types of artificial surfaces were installed in different coralligenous habitats to test the enhancement of recruitment, concluding that plastic grids are the best substrate in terms of facilitating the recruitment of new bryozoan colonies.
- Second, different methodologies were tested for adult transplantation. The most successful was to fix colonies to a suitable substrate with a nylon thread attached to the colony ex situ (i.e. on the boat).
- Using this technique a trial restoration programme was undertaken, involving transplanting adult colonies collected from a ghost fishing net trapped on the bottom, which showed a high survival rate of ~50% after 6 months.
- The low economic cost of the implementation of the proposed techniques as well as the successful results obtained highlight the viability of restoring bryozoan populations over long temporal and spatial scales.

Optimization of corn plant population according to management zones in Southern Brazil 总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Precision agriculture relies on site-specific interventions determined by the spatial variability of factors driving plant growth. The main objective of this study was to assess the efficiency of variable-rate seeding of corn (Zea mays L.) with delineated management zones. This study involved two experiments carried out in Não-Me-Toque, Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. For the first experiment, carried out in 2009/2010, management zones were delineated by the farmer’s knowledge of the crop field. The field was split into low (LZ), medium (MZ) and high (HZ) crop performance zones. In the second experiment, carried out in 2010/2011, management zones were delineated by overlaying standardized yield data from nine crop seasons (seven of soybean and two of corn). The experiment was carried out with a randomized block design with three management zones and five corn seeding rates ranging from 50 000 to 90 000 seeds per ha?1. The soil was a Rhodic Hapludox with a subtropical climate. Optimization of the corn plant population within the field increased grain yield compared to the reference plant population (70 000 plants ha?1). Yield increases in the LZ, due to corn plant population reduction in relation to the target population, were 1.20 and 1.90 Mg ha?1 for first and second experiments, respectively. This resulted in economic gains of 19.8 and 28.7 %, respectively. Yield increases in the HZ were 0.89 and 0.94 Mg ha?1, respectively, and were due to an increase in plant population in relation to the target population. This resulted in economic gains of 5.6 and 6.6 % for the first and second experiments, respectively. In the MZ, the adjustment of the target plant population was not necessary. Optimizing corn population according to management zones is a promising tool for precision agriculture in Southern Brazil. 相似文献
