The genus Paspalum L. comprises approximately 400 species worldwide and about 220 in Brazil. Paspalum is ecologically and economically important, and has been very useful as pasture and P. notatum Flügge (bahiagrass) is a valuable forage grass in the subtropics. This species consists of several sexual (diploid) and apomictic (tetraploid, ocasionally tri and pentaploids) biotypes. In this work, inter simple sequence repeats (ISSR) markers were used to assess the genetic variability of a bahiagrass (P. notatum) collection. Vegetative tissues of 95 bahiagrass accessions were obtained from various locations in South America (Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay). A total of 91 reproducible ISSR fragments were observed and 89 fragments (97.5% of the total observed) were polymorphic. Cluster analyses (UPGMA) were performed from the ISSR data set and the results illustrate the genetic relationships among the 95 accessions of P. notatum. A comparison among molecular, morphological and ploidy levels data were done. ISSR markers were effective in distinguishing the genotypes analyzed, and a wide variability was observed for this species. These results add new information regarding the genetic diversity in P. notatum, thus contributing toward the biological knowledge of this species, and providing with subsides for future plant breeding and conservation programs.  相似文献

Objective To observe the effect upon the foetus of experimental infection of pregnant cattle with Leptospira borg-petersenii serovar hardjo .
Design A disease transmission study using pregnant cattle.
Procedure Fourteen heifers serologically negative to L hardjo were artificially inseminated and later challenged with a north-Queensland isolate of L hardjo by conjunctival inoculation. The heifers were serologically monitored and their urine examined for the presence of leptospires using culture and fluorescent-antibody tests at appropriate intervals. Elective caesarean sections were performed on pregnant heifers at 6.5 weeks after the challenge. Foetuses were examined using serological, histopathological, microbiological and fluorescent-antibody tests.
Results Ten of the heifers became pregnant, but three subsequently aborted before challenge. After challenge, all 14 heifers seroconverted and L hardjo was isolated from the urine of 6 of the 7 pregnant heifers. No evidence of foetal L hardjo infection was detected. Two of the foetuses had histopatho-logical lesions consistent with Neospora s p infection.
Conclusion It is likely that the isolate of L hardjo used in this study does not normally infect the foetus. Neospora s p may be a more significant cause of bovine reproductive wastage.  相似文献

Turbot larvae reared on rotifers (Brachionus plicatilis) and Artemia (San Francisco brand) nauplii (A) were compared with those fed on different copepod (Eurytemora affinis) stages (B). In one trial, growth and survival of larvae from hatching to day 21, their fatty acid pattern and that of their food organisms were examined. At the age of 21 days larvae of group A measured 11·1 ± 1·6 mm total length (TL) compared with 14·8 ± 1·1 mm TL for group B. From day 3 to 8 survival was 29% (A) and 38% (B). Long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acid composition of turbots resembled that of their corresponding diets. Artemia and Artemia fed larvae were lacking 22 : 6 n-3 fatty acid.In a further study, survival of larvae from day 11 to 21 fed on Artemia nauplii (C) or copepods (D) was found to be greater with the latter diet (73 versus 93%) whereas growth during this experiment was similar in both groups. Before the start of this trial they had been reared on a mixture of copepod nauplii and Brachionus. No influence on weaning success was observed. 22 : 6 n-3 fatty acid is seen to be essential for turbot larvae: elongations of fatty acids by the larvae were not found.  相似文献

In many countries, infectious diseases are a considerable threat to aquaculture. The pathogenicity of micro‐organisms that infect aquaculture systems is closely related to the release of virulence factors and the formation of biofilms, both of which are regulated by quorum sensing (QS). Thus, QS disruption is a potential strategy for preventing disease in aquaculture systems. QS inhibitors (QSIs) not only inhibit the expression of virulence‐associated genes but also attenuate the virulence of aquaculture pathogens. In this review, we discuss QS systems in important aquaculture pathogens and focus on the relationship between QS mechanisms and bacterial virulence in aquaculture. We further elucidate QS disruption strategies for targeting aquaculture pathogens. Four main types of QSIs that target aquaculture pathogens are discussed based on their mechanisms of action.  相似文献

In order to evaluate an artificial insemination programme and reproductive efficiency of dairy herds in Uruguay, a survey was conducted with five dairy farms, utilizing a total of 768 lactating Holstein cows. Precision of oestrous detection was assessed by one milk progesterone sample taken on day of breeding and was 11.1%. Two additional samples taken at day 10 and 23 were used to confirm ovulation and early pregnancy. Accuracy of pregnancy estimation by milk progesterone was 70.4%. Reproductive efficiency was determined by the analysis of records. Average intervals from calving to first service were 101 days and to conception 132 days and these were affected by parity, body weight and body condition at calving, but not at breeding, or by milk production. Oestrous detection rates and pregnancy rates were 37.5 and 15.6%, respectively. It was concluded that losses in reproductive efficiency in dairy farms of Uruguay in a seasonal artificial insemination programme were mainly due to unobserved heats, rather than incorrect oestrous detection.  相似文献
