In laboratory incubations, the time to 50% loss of napropamide was approximately 60; 21 and 8 days in soil treated for the first, second and third time respectively. In a survey of soils from commercial fields, there was evidence that enhanced biodegradation of the compound had been induced by normal field applications—in some soils by a single previous treatment. Confirmation of the observations of rapid rates of loss in pre-treated soil was obtained in experiments with three formulations of napropamide. The rate of degradation in enhanced soils was unaffected by treatment of the soils with the antifungal antibiotic cycloheximide, but was inhibited by the antibacterial antibiotic chloramphenicol. Mixed bacterial cultures able to degrade the herbicide were obtained from three rapid-degrading soils by enrichment culture. Isolates from two of them were able to degrade the herbicide in pure culture. These bacteria have, as yet, not been characterised.  相似文献

Larkspur plants contain numerous norditerpenoid alkaloids, which include the 7,8-methylenedioxylycoctonine (MDL)-type alkaloids and the N-(methylsuccinimido)anthranoyllycoctonine (MSAL)-type alkaloids. The MSAL-type alkaloids are generally much more toxic (typically >20 times). Toxicity of many tall larkspurs, such as Delphinium barbeyi, has been attributed to its large concentration of MSAL-type alkaloids, including methyllycaconitine (MLA). However, the norditerpenoid alkaloids found in the greatest concentrations in most D. barbeyi populations are either deltaline or 14-O-acetyldictyocarpine (14-OAD), both less toxic MDL-type alkaloids. Although the individual toxicities of MLA, 14-OAD, and deltaline have been determined, the impact (additive or antagonistic) that large concentrations of deltaline or 14-OAD in the plant have on the toxicity of MLA is unknown. Consequently, the effect of MDL-type alkaloids on the toxicity of MLA was compared by using median lethal dose (LD(50)) and toxicokinetic profiles of the brainand muscle from mice receiving i.v. administration of these alkaloids, individually or in combination, at ratios of 1:1, 1:5, and 1:25 MLA to MDL-type alkaloids. The LD(50) for MLA alone was 4.4 +/- 0.7 mg/kg of BW, whereas the coadministration of MLA and deltaline at 1:1, 1:5, and 1:25 resulted in an LD(50) of 2.7, 2.5, and 1.9 mg/kg of BW, respectively. Similarly, the coadministration of MLA and 14-OAD at 1:1, 1:5, and 1:25 resulted in an LD(50) of 3.1, 2.2, and 1.5 mg/kg of BW, respectively. Coadministration of mixtures did not result in increased MLA bioavailability or alterations in clearance from the brain and muscle. Consequently, the increased toxicity of the mixtures was not a result of increased MLA bioavailability (based on the maximum concentrations observed) or alterations in MLA clearance from the brain and muscle, because these were unchanged. These results demonstrate that MDL-type alkaloids have an additive effect on MLA toxicity in mice and may also play a role in the overall toxicity of tall larkspur plants in cattle.  相似文献

The herbicide isoproturon was degraded rapidly in a sandy loam soil under laboratory conditions (incubation temperature, 15°C; soil moisture potential, -33 kPa). Degradation was inhibited following treatment of the soil with the antibiotic chloramphenicol, but unaffected by treatment with cycloheximide, thus indicating an involvement of soil bacteria. Rapid degradation was not observed with other phenylurea herbicides, such as diuron, linuron, monuron or metoxuron incubated in the same soil under the same experimental conditions. Three successive applications of isoproturon to ten soils differing in their physicochemical properties and previous cropping history induced rapid degradation of the herbicide in most of them under laboratory conditions. There were, however, no apparent differences in ease of induction of rapid degradation between soils which had been treated with isoproturon for the last five years in the field and those with no pre-treatment history. A mixed bacterial culture able to degrade isoproturon in liquid culture was isolated from a soil in which the herbicide degraded rapidly.  相似文献

A lytic bacteriophage (φNC10) specific to serotype O1 Yersinia ruckeri has been identified and evaluated as a model to assess the potential use of bacteriophages and their products for disease control in aquaculture. Electron microscopy of purified φNC10 revealed a virion particle with a small (70 nm) polyhedral head and short tail. φNC10 infected only serotype O1 strains of Y. ruckeri and failed to bind a defined Y. ruckeri mutant strain lacking O1 lipopolysaccharides (O1-LPS), suggesting that φNC10 uses O1-LPS as its receptor. In addition, spontaneous φNC10-resistant mutants of Y. ruckeri exhibited defects in O1-LPS production and were sensitive to rainbow trout serum. Purified φNC10 displayed a polysaccharide depolymerase activity capable of degrading Y. ruckeri O1-LPS and thereby sensitizing Y. ruckeri to the bactericidal effects of rainbow trout serum. The φNC10-associated polysaccharide depolymerase activity also reduced the ability of Y. ruckeri cells to cause mortality following intraperitoneal injection into rainbow trout. These data demonstrate a potential utility of φNC10 and its associated polysaccharide depolymerase activity for Y. ruckeri disease prevention.  相似文献

The scombrid Scomberomorus semifasciatus is an important component of inshore fisheries in tropical Australia. Data on the parasite fauna of 593 fish from areas off northern and eastern Australia were examined for evidence of discrete fish populations. The parasites used were juveniles of Pterobothrium pearsoni, Callitetrarhynchus gracilis, Anisakis simplex (sensu latu) and Terranova sp. Tukey Kramer pairwise comparisons gave significant differences in the abundances of two or more parasites between fish from the east coast, the eastern Gulf of Carpentaria and the remainder of northern Australia. Multivariate analysis gave further evidence of differences and the results suggest that at least 4 populations or stocks of grey mackerel occur along the northern and eastern coastline of Australia.  相似文献

Fecal material collected from an immunologically deficient man with persistent cryptosporidia infection was stored in potassium dichromate for two weeks and then fed (inoculated) to newborn pigs. The six inoculated newborn pigs shed the organism in their feces starting four to five days afer inoculation and continuing for as long as 22 days after inoculation. Pigs which were killed and necropsied while shedding had cryptosporidia infection of ileum, cecum, and colon. Infected pigs had atrophied ileal villi and flattened irregular cecal and colonic epithelium. Uninoculated littermate controls remained free to the infection and had histologically normal intestinal tracts at necropsy. Treatment of three of the six inoculated pigs with the ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor, DL-alpha-difluoromethylornithine, orally for ten days had no apparent effect on the infection.  相似文献

Plasma from hypertransfused and normal sheep and experimentally induced anemic and normal goats was fractionated by ultrafiltration. Fractions obtained were assayed for erythropoiesis stimulatory factor (ESF) or erythropoiesis inhibitory factor (EIF) activity (or both) in the posthypoxic polycythemic mouse assay. The most potent sheep plasma-inhibitor fraction was found in the retentate on a membrane with a cutoff at mol wt 50,000. The most potent EIF fraction from anemic goats passed into the ultrafiltrate, but the comparable EIF from normal goats remained in the retentate on a membrane with a cutoff at mol wt 500. The yield of the most potent EIF fraction was higher from anemic goats than was the yield from normal goats. During thin-layer chromatography, EIF extracted from goat plasma fractions had the same mobility as did prostaglandin F2 alpha. Cohn rabbit plasma fraction IV-4 had an inhibitory factor, and a benzene extract of the fraction contained a component that had the same mobility as did prostaglandin F2 alpha. Cohn rabbit plasma fraction V contained a component that potentiated an erythropoietin-generating factor.  相似文献

The grazing of 3 relatively productive grasslands ( Festucaf Agrostis ) by hill sheep was examined in relation to herbage consumption, grazing pressure, dung deposition and the number of sheep in the area. Herbage intake ranged from 400 Ib/ac/annum (dry weight) on the highest (2450 ft O. D.) and most exposed grassland to 800 Ib/ac/annum on a grassland (1700 ft O. D.) adjacent to extensive heather moorland on blanket bog. The highest pressure (5·5 sheep/ac) was also found on grassland surrounded by blanket bog (1 sheep/14 ac).  相似文献

A 4-year-old spayed female German Shepherd Dog was evaluated because of left forelimb lameness. A fungal granuloma on the distal portion of the radius was determined to be the cause of the lameness; the infecting organism was identified as Phialemonium obovatum. Despite aggressive treatment with amphotericin B, itraconazole, and ketoconazole and curettage of the local area, the dog developed systemic disease and was euthanatized 5 months after initial evaluation. Immune dysfunction may have played a role in development of disseminated disease, because although serum concentrations of total IgG, IgA, and IgM were within or greater than reference ranges, results of lymphocyte proliferation assays were abnormal, which indicated cellular immune dysfunction. Infection with Phialemonium obovatum should be considered as a differential diagnosis when branching fungal organisms are detected during histologic, cytologic, or microbiologic evaluation of tissue specimens.  相似文献

The pattern of temporal change in recruitment of steelhead trout ( Oncorhynchus mykiss ) entering the ocean between 1963 and 1990 was geographically coherent in all regions of British Columbia. A major increase in recruitment was evident for smolts entering the ocean after 1977. Subsequently, an out-of-phase response occurred after 1990, indicating that the effect of a possible 1990 regime shift had both temporal and geographical structure. Steelhead entering northern regions had increasing recruitment, while steelhead entering southern BC coastal regions had sharply decreasing recruitment. The evidence clearly indicates that the overall recruitment response since 1977 was primarily shaped by changes in marine (not freshwater) survival. Similar sudden changes in adult recruitment also appear to be occurring for other species of Pacific salmon in BC and Oregon, such as coho ( O. kisutch ), which appear to occur suddenly and show considerable persistence. A possible explanation for the change is that ocean productivity declined in coastal regions of southern BC after 1990, reducing the marine growth of juvenile salmon. The Bakun upwelling index shows a pattern of geographical coherence along the west coast of North America that could in principle explain the observed pattern of changes in recruitment. However, no evidence for a temporal shift in this index occurring around 1977 and 1990 is apparent. The reason for the sudden and persistent decline in ocean survival is therefore uncertain.  相似文献
