Regularities in the formation of the pool of priority polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the soil-plant systems of the northern taiga forest biocenoses were revealed. In soils and plants, PAHs mainly consisted of 3- and 4-nuclear structures. The content of polyarenes in plants on technogenically contaminated areas exceeded the background values by 2–5 times. The maximum bioconsumption of polyarenes was observed for bilberry leaves and Siberian spruce sprouts 4–5 years old. The highest mass fraction of PAHs was found in Siberian spruce plants of a mixed spruce-birch forest of the northern taiga. It was revealed that bilberry plants are hyperaccumulators of light PAHs.  相似文献

An 18-week study was conducted to examine growth characteristics of the juvenile blue crab (Callinectes sapidus Rathbun) fed various levels of dietary protein. Hatchery raised individuals (157) of identical age (160 days) from the same gravid female were assigned to one of four dietary treatments: adult brine shrimp (Artemia salina Leach) and artificial pelleted diets containing crude protein levels of 23, 37, and 49%.Growth rate, measured as a function of mean weight and mean carapace width, indicated that brine shrimp-fed crabs were larger (P < 0.05) than crabs fed artificial pelleted diets. Also, blue crabs fed either 37 or 49% crude protein were larger than crabs fed the 23% crude protein diet. Molting frequency was greater in the brine shrimp-fed crabs than in those fed the artificial diets. No differences in growth were detected when comparing males vs. females fed the artificial diets. However, females demonstrated greater growth than males within the brine shrimp treatment. Protein concentration of freeze-dried whole blue crab carcasses was greater in brine shrimp-fed crabs than in crabs fed the artificial pelleted diets (P < 0.05).  相似文献

The upper incipient lethal temperatures of the freshwater mullet, Rhinomugil corsula, acclimated to 15, 20, 25, 30 and 35°C in fresh water, were 32.4, 34.1, 36.0, 36.2 and 36.5°C respectively, and the corresponding lower lethal temperatures were 10.5, 11.5, 13.2, 15.8 and 19.5°C. The mullet has a total tolerance (area of thermal polygon) of 569°C with an upper and lower thermal tolerance of 253 and 316°C2. Likewise, the total resistance of the mullet was 391°C2, with upper and lower resistance zones of 181 and 210°C respectively. The upper critical temperatures of swimming inhibition of R. corsula (17.2 cm; acclimation 30°C), determined in a swimming tunnel, were 35.2, 34.6 and 34.2 for water current velocities of 38, 62 and 77 cm s?1 respectively. The corresponding lower critical temperatures were 26.2, 27.5 and 28.1°C. These results indicated the stenothermal nature of the mullet by comparison with other fishes, e.g. Tilapia mossambica.In tests on the influence of ambient salinity on thermal resistance, R. corsula survived longest at 7‰ (iso-osmotic salinity). At salinities above and below this point, survival times were shorter at any lethal temperature. In a tentative scheme for quantification of stress due to temperature and salinity at death (after acclimation to 30°C and tested at 37°C), the hypo-osmotic and hyper-osmotic stress were estimated to be 50 and 31% of the thermal stress (100%) respectively.  相似文献

The environmental history of the shirauo, Salangichthys microdon, was examined in terms of strontium (Sr) and calcium (Ca) uptake in the otolith, by means of wavelength dispersive X‐ray spectrometry on an electron microprobe. Anadromous and lacustrine type of the shirauo were found to occur sympatric. Otolith Sr concentration or Sr : Ca ratios of anadromous shirauo fluctuated strongly along the life‐history transect in accordance with the migration (habitat) pattern from sea to freshwater. In contrast, the Sr concentration or the Sr : Ca ratios of lacustrine shirauo remained at consistently low levels throughout the otolith. The higher ratios in anadromous shirauo, in the otolith region from the core to 90–230 μm, corresponded to the initial sea‐going period, probably reflecting the ambient salinity or the seawater–freshwater gradient in Sr concentration. The findings clearly indicated that otolith Sr : Ca ratios reflected individual life histories, enabling these anadromous shirauo to be distinguished from lacustrine shirauo.  相似文献

The effects of four cryoprotectants (methanol, MeOH; dimethyl sulphoxide, DMSO; dimethyl acetamide, DMA; and ethylene glycol, EG), three extenders (calcium‐free Hanks' balanced salt solution, C‐F HBSS, Hanks' balanced salt solution, HBSS and sodium chloride, NaCl) and two different freezing procedures (one‐ and two‐step) on the cryopreservation of striped catfish (Pangasius hypophthalmus (Sauvage)) sperm were investigated. Sperm were frozen using a controlled‐rate freezer in 250 μL straws and stored for 2 weeks in a liquid nitrogen (LN2) container. They were then airthawed at room temperature, and fertilization, motility and viability were assessed. The highest fertilization rate of 41% (81% of control) was achieved with the combination of 12% DMSO and 0.9% NaCl using a one‐step freezing procedure (10°C min?1). Also, DMA resulted in a higher fertilization rate (30% or 51% of the control) than MeOH (18% or 38% of the control) or EG (8% or 12% of the control). In addition, the three extenders used did not affect fertilization rates after cryopreservation with each cryoprotectant. There were no significant differences among the three cryoprotectant concentrations and between the one‐ and two‐step freezing procedures. However, fertilization rates of cryopreserved sperm were significantly lower than the controls (P<0.05). The results of this study indicate that high fertilization rates of striped catfish eggs can be achieved using cryopreserved sperm when frozen at 10°C min?1 in DMSO or DMA with either 0.9% NaCl or C‐F HBSS.  相似文献

Four one‐week growth trials were conducted on green sturgeon fry to determine the effect of feeding rate on their growth performance at 18 °C when they were fed a salmonid soft moist feeds containing 445–457 g kg?1 of crude protein and 201–207 g kg?1 of lipid. The fry used in Trials I‐IV were 5–8 weeks after their initiation of exogenous feeding. Their average initial body weights were 1.63 ± 0.01, 2.63 ± 0.03, 5.08 ± 0.08 and 7.49 ± 0.05 g, respectively. Six feeding rates used were as follows: 2.5–15.0% body weight per day (% BW day?1) with a 2.5% increment in Trial I; 1.25–7.50% BW day?1 with a 1.25% increment in Trial II; and 2.0–7.0% BW day?1 with a 1.0% increment in Trials III and IV. Four replicates with 50 fry per tank in Trials I‐III and 30 fry per tank in Trial IV were assigned randomly to each feeding rates. The final body weight, specific growth rate, feed efficiency, protein retention, and whole‐body moisture, lipid, and energy contents were significantly (< 0.05) affected by the feeding rates. The optimum feeding rates determined by the broken‐line model were 7.1, 5.7 and 5.3% BW day?1 for Trials I, II and IV, when the fry were 5, 6 and 8 weeks after their initiation of exogenous feeding, respectively.  相似文献

Juvenile scallops (<2 mm shell height) of three species (Placopecten magellanicus, Patinopecten yessoensis, Argopecten irradians) were fed mixed, unialgal cultures. Scallops were fed a total of six algal clones simultaneously and clearance rates were monitored using flow cytometric techniques. In another experiment, scallops were presented with natural assemblages of particulate matter as a food source. Data are presented on differences in clearance rates for the individual algal species as well as size-related differences of algal clones, and uptake of chlorophyll vs. non-chlorophyll cells, both within and between scallop species. Significant differences in clearance rates of individual algal species have been found within and between scallop species. Particle selection does not appear to be based upon size alone and is apparently based on other characteristics of the algae as well. The results demonstrate pre-ingestive sorting.  相似文献

Since 1992, mass mortalities among cultured giant tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon (Fabricius), and kuruma shrimp, Penaeus japonicus (Bate), have been observed in Taiwan. The condition is known as 'white spot disease' (WSD), based on the characteristic white spots on the cuticle of diseased shrimp. With the scanning electron microscope, two sizes of white spots were observed. Each spot represented a protrusion on the inside surface of the carapace. The composition of white spots was similar to that of the cuticule, most calcium, as determined with an energy dispersive spectrometer. Histological studies of moribund, infected specimens revealed degenerated cells, characterized by hypertrophied nuclei, in various meso- and ectodermal tissues. Infected tissues included cuticular epidermis, connective tissue, lymphoid organ, antennal gland, and haematopoietic, gill and nervous tissue. Nuclei were Feulgen-positive and no occlusion body was found in the necrotic tissue. Transmission electron microscopy revealed the presence of rod-shaped and enveloped virions in the hypertrophied nuclei. The virions measured 298 ± 21 × 107 ± 8 nm in the giant tiger shrimp and 248 ± 12 × 104 ± 8 nm in the kuruma shrimp. In an experimental infection trial, cumulative mortality was 40% within 14 days under stress conditions. No mortality was observed in controls or in non-stressed infected shrimp. Experimental infections show that environmental stressors such as ammonia may enhance the severity of WSD virus infections in cultured shrimp.  相似文献

The usefulness of isozyme and protein markers in identifying tilapia species and their hybrids is demonstrated Genetic characterization of Oreochromis niloticus populations from commercial farms, experimental stations, and government hatcheries in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao in the Philippines indicates well-established introgression with O mossambicus Genetic differentiation of the O niloticus stocks, measured by Nei's genetic distance, was highly correlated with O mossambicus gene content The implications of these results for tilapia genetic improvement are discussed.  相似文献
