Most of the monthly catches and CPUE of 13 studied commercial species in the coastal waters of the north-western Mediterranean were significantly positively correlated with run-off of local rivers (Rhône and Muga) and the wind mixing index during the spawning season, with time lags of less than a year (transfer function analyses). Rhône and Ebre interannual fluctuations in run-off were synchronous and were related to the North Atlantic Oscillation (NAO), river run-offs being negatively correlated to high NAO episodes. The fluctuations of river discharges and the wind mixing index were cyclic but not related. The results showed that enhanced hydroclimatic conditions in the NW Mediterranean were favourable for the productivity of the fish and invertebrate stocks, and suggest the presence of linkage between recruitment of Mediterranean species and local (river discharges, wind conditions) and global (NAO) environmental conditions.  相似文献

Vitellaria paradoxa or karité is a wild fruit-bearing tree species of sudano-sahelian parklands that plays an important socio-economic role in Sub-Saharan Africa due to the commercial and domestic value of the fruits. Principal constraints of karité fruit production are: long juvenile phase, slow growth, genetic variability and lack of knowledge regarding the cultivation of the species. To address these constraints and to enhance productivity and quality, five methods of grafting (side cleft, top cleft, tongue, chip budding and side veneer), two methods of pre-treatment of scions and rootstocks (washing with 10% sodium hypochlorite to wash off latex and sterilise and a control without washing), and two methods of protection of grafts against desiccation (covering with white plastic sheet and aluminium foil) were tested. The results showed decreasing success of survival of grafts 16 weeks after grafting for the five grafting techniques: side cleft (86.1%), tongue (80.9%), top cleft (78.1%), chip budding (38.1%) and side veneer (20.7%) grafting methods. The results also showed May to be the optimum time for grafting, with high rates of shoot growth and survival of grafts. The average annual growth rate of grafts was 12.6 cm. The pre-treatment of scions with 10% sodium hypochlorite, however, had no significant effect on survival of scions. There was also no significant difference in survival of scions between the two methods of protection of grafts against desiccation (aluminium foil and plastic sheet). In Belgium, the current distribution and abundance of Xylosandrus germanus (Coleoptera, Scolytidae), a relatively new species to the Belgian fauna, is poorly known. Therefore, data on the range and population levels of this ambrosia beetle, on a regional and local scale respectively, are presented. Based on those results, the beetles range is discussed. Among the analysed biotic and abiotic factors that could influence the species settlement and population levels, climatic ones, and temperature in particular, seem to exert a crucial influence.  相似文献

Two kinds of propagules play a role in Mycosphaerella graminicola dissemination: splash-dispersed pycnidiospores and airborne sexual ascospores. A method based on real-time polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay and using Burkard spore traps was developed to quantify M. graminicola airborne inoculum. The method was tested for its reliability and applied in a spore trap network over a 2-year period in order to investigate the spatio-temporal distribution of airborne inoculum in Belgium. At four experimental sites, airborne inoculum was detected in both years. A seasonal distribution was observed, with the highest mean daily quantities (up to 351.0 cDNA) trapped in July and with clusters detected from September to April. The first year of trapping, a mean daily quantity of 15.7 cDNA of M. graminicola airborne inoculum was also detected in the air above a building in a city where the spatio-temporal distribution showed a similar pattern to that in the field. Mean daily quantities of up to 60.7 cDNA of airborne inoculum were measured during the cereal stem elongation and flowering stages, suggesting that it contributes to the infection of upper leaves later in the season. Most detection, however, tended to occur between flowering and harvest, suggesting significant production of pseudothecia during that period. Variations in mean daily quantities from 1.0 to 48.2 cDNA were observed between sites and between years in the patterns of airborne inoculum. After stem elongation, the quantities detected at a site were positively correlated with the disease pressure in the field. Quantities trapped at beginning of the growing season were also well correlated with the disease level the previous year. Multiple regressions revealed that some factors partly explain the daily variations of airborne inoculum.  相似文献

By using the results of seven carbon substrate assimilation tests from the Biotype 100 system (bioMérieux, Marcy-l’Etoile, France), we correctly identified 79 (85.9%) of 92 Brucella strains tested. The specificity of the method varied from 97.4 to 100% depending on the species. Although a biological safety cabinet must be used, this method represents an easy and fast alternative for the identification of Brucella species.  相似文献

Global average surface temperatures have increased rapidly over the last 100 years and there is accumulating evidence that climate change is already causing shifts in species’ distributions. We use extensive abundance data and expected range shifts across altitudinal gradients to predict changes in total population size of rainforest birds of Australian tropical rainforests in response to climate warming. According to our most conservative model scenario, 74% of rainforest birds of north-eastern Australia are predicted to become threatened (including 26 critically endangered species) as a result of projected mid-range warming expected within the next 100 years. Extinction risk varies according to where along the altitudinal gradient a species is currently most abundant. Upland birds are most affected and are likely to be immediately threatened by even small increases in temperature. In contrast, there is a capacity for the population size of lowland species to increase, at least in the short term. We conclude that abundance data collected across climatic gradients will be fundamental to gaining an understanding of population size change associated with climate warming.  相似文献

Specific leaf area (SLA; m2leaf kg?1leaf) is a key ecophysiological parameter influencing leaf physiology, photosynthesis, and whole plant carbon gain. Both individual tree-based models and other forest process-based models are generally highly sensitive to this parameter, but information on its temporal or within-stand variability is still scarce. In a 2–4-year-old Eucalyptus plantation in Congo, prone to seasonal drought, the within-stand and seasonal variability in SLA were investigated by means of destructive sampling carried out at 2-month intervals, over a 2-year period. Within-crown vertical gradients of SLA were small. Highly significant relationships were found between tree-average SLA (SLAt) and tree size (tree height, Ht, or diameter at breast height, DBH): SLAt ranged from about 9 m2 kg?1 for dominant trees to about 14–15 m2 kg?1 for the smallest trees. The decrease in SLAt with increasing tree size was accurately predicted from DBH using power functions. Stand-average SLA varied by about 20% during the year, with lowest values at the end of the 5-month dry season, and highest values about 2–3 months after the onset of the wet season. Variability in leaf water status according to tree size and season is discussed as a possible determinant of both the within-stand and seasonal variations in SLA.  相似文献

An extracellular phenol oxidase was isolated from the culture filtrate of the fungus Rhizoctonia praticola by gel filtration on Sephadex G-200. The enzyme catalyzed the polymerization of 1-naphthol to dimeric, trimeric, tetrameric, and pentameric compounds as determined by mass spectrometry. One product with a molecular weight of 286 was identified as 4,4′-bi-1-naphthol. Other compounds that were dimerized or polymerized by the enzyme were phenol, o-methoxyphenol (guaiacol), p-methylphenol (p-cresol), 2,6-dimethoxyphenol, and 1,3- and 1,5-dihydroxynaphthalene. The product from 2,6-dimethoxyphenol was isolated and identified as 3,5,3′,5′-tetramethoxydiphenoquinone.  相似文献

The impact of human practices on the phenology of flowering was assessed for an important agroforestry tree species of the Sudano-Sahelian zone: Vitellaria paradoxa. Flowering was monitored at two sites in southern Mali over 2 years. At each site, the impact of agricultural practices on flowering phenology was assessed by comparing field, fallow and forest. The site effect and agricultural practices were significant for all the monitored variables. The proportion of individuals that flowered was 89% at Koumantou and 40% at MPeresso. About 98, 95 and 75% of individuals at Koumantou and 88, 12 and 20% at MPeresso flowered in the field, fallow and forest, respectively. The mean length of flowering ranged from 69 to 81 days at Koumantou and from 45 to 108 days at MPeresso. The mean number of days for the active phase ranged from 36 to 49 days at Koumantou and from 27 to 64 days at MPeresso. Koumantou’s favourable climatic conditions resulted in better flowering ability and a higher probability of abundant flowering. Field appeared to provide better conditions than fallow and forest regarding flowering ability and probability of abundant flowering. However, tree diameter did not affect flowering phenology. Agricultural practices appear to have a noticeable impact on the phenology of flowering of V. paradoxa. Trees flowered abundantly in the parkland and therefore increased gene flow via pollen and/or seeds and the dynamics of genetic diversity.  相似文献
