The purpose of this study is to attempt the induction of early immunopotentiation of antibodies specific to fimbriae of Salmonella enterica serovar Enteritidis (SE), by administering thymulin and zinc to SE-vaccinated chicken breeders, and the improvement of protection against a controlled-live challenge by SE. The first two groups of breeders were administered subcutaneously at 15 and 19 weeks of age a killed SE vaccine. Breeders of the third and fourth groups were left unvaccinated. Breeders of the first group, immunopotentiated by thymulin and zinc, were able to induce the earliest antibodies in their pooled sera at 2 weeks post the first SE-vaccination, specific to fimbriae (approximately 21 KDa) of SE. However, the second group that was only vaccinated with the same SE-vaccine produced specific antibodies to fimbriae at 3 weeks following the second vaccination (22 weeks of age). Breeders of the third group, that were neither SE-vaccinated nor immunopotentiated by thymulin and zinc, but were challenged by live SE at 22 weeks of age, were able to show specific antibodies to fimbriae at 3 weeks post challenge (25 weeks of age). The fourth group that was deprived of SE-vaccination, immunopotentiators, and challenge didn't show any background antibodies specific to SE-fimbriae. The presence of the earliest antibody-immunopotentiation to fimbriae of SE in breeders of the first group, administered thymulin and zinc, was associated with the lowest frequency of SE-infected ceca (10%) among the challenged groups. In addition, breeders of the first group were the only challenged birds resulting in absence of SE infection in their cecal tonsils. The first group-vaccinated, immunopotentiated, and challenged, and the second group-vaccinated and challenged only resulted in breeders with absence of SE infection in their oviducts and spleens. In conclusion, immunopotentiation of chicken breeders by thymulin and zinc induces the earliest specific antibodies to fimbriae of SE associated with the lowest frequency of SE-infected ceca, and absence of SE infection from cecal tonsils, oviducts and spleens. 相似文献
In a three-year survey of myxosporean infections of the bleak (Alburnus alburnus), involving the examination of 205 fish specimens from the River Danube and 50 from Lake Balaton, four Myxobolus species (two gill parasites, one fin parasite and a species parasitising the skeletal muscles) were detected. Two of the species could be identified as M. alburni and M. obesus. Of the other two species, the gill parasite proved to be a hitherto undescribed species which is described here as a new species by the name of M. margitae. One of the two gill-parasitic species, M. obesus, formed plasmodia in the respiratory lamellae of the gill filaments, while the plasmodia of M. margitae n. sp. were formed in the afferent artery of the primary gill filaments. The plasmodia containing spores morphologically identifiable with the species M. alburni were located in the connective tissue between the fin rays. The less frequently found muscle-parasitic Myxobolus species has not been identified precisely. The plasmodia of M. obesus were found in the fish in May and June, while those of M. alburni and M. margitae n. sp. in July and August. The prevalence of infection in fish examined in these periods was 15.5% for M. obesus, 11.5% for M. margitae and 14.0% for M. alburni. 相似文献
Fatty acid composition, marbling score and melting point data collected between 1994 and 1996 were analysed. The data were from the adipose tissue of 764 Angus, Belgian Blue, Hereford, Jersey, Limousin, South Devon and Wagyu crossbred cattle slaughtered after lot‐feeding at 500 days of age. The aim was to investigate sire‐breed differences and to estimate heritability and genetic and phenotypic correlations. Significant breed differences were found: Jersey crosses had the highest marbling score and Belgian Blue crosses had the lowest. Limousin crosses had the highest melting point and Jersey crosses the lowest. South Devon crosses had the highest proportion of stearate and Jersey crosses the lowest. Desaturation indices in C16 and C18 fatty acids were highest in Jersey crosses and lowest in Limousin and South Devon crosses. In contrast, there were no breed differences in the proportions of palmitate, oleate, total saturated, total mono‐unsaturated fatty acids and elongation index. Heritability estimates of individual fatty acids and their summations, melting point and marbling were low to moderately low (0.05–0.27). Strong genetic correlations of melting point and desaturation index in C16 fatty acids (‐0.93), melting point and stearate (0.62), marbling and stearate (‐0.71) and marbling and desaturation index in C18 fatty acids (0.62) were observed. Phenotypic correlation were generally low. The results imply that fatty acids in the adipose tissue of lot‐fed cattle have a moderately low heritability, hence genetic progress might be slow. 相似文献
Comparison of the effectiveness of 8W fluorescent black and white light sources, in two 4x4 Latin squares (16 replicates) designs under South African conditions, showed black light to be up to three time more effective in collecting Culicoides imicola Kieffer (Diptera, Ceratopogonidae) and other South African Culicoides species. Four Culicoides species, which were collected in low numbers with black light, were not collected in traps equipped with the white light source. No significant difference was found in the parous rate of the C. imicola populations as determined by the two light sources. The study highlighted the superiority of black light as a preferred collection method for C. imicola, considered to be the most widespread and abundant vector of livestock orbiviruses. The results underline the need to develop and adopt standard techniques for measuring the variables of vectorial capacity. 相似文献
This study investigated the productive adaptability of pig breeds under different smallholder production conditions in Vietnam, comparing an indigenous with a Vietnamese improved breed. Fieldwork was conducted in four villages with different remoteness in North Vietnam from 2001 to 2002, in 64 households keeping the improved Mong Cai or indigenous Ban as sow breeds and progeny for fattening. Four visits per farm yielded 234 structured interviews. Reproductive performances were derived from 135 litters. Individual weights of pigs (n = 755) were obtained. Data were analysed by regression, linear and generalised linear, especially loglinear models.
Two distinct pig production systems were identified, that differed in remoteness, market access, resource availability, distribution of pig breeds and pig production intensity. Higher performances of 1.4 and 1.5 litters year− 1, 8.4 and 8.4 piglets weaned litter− 1, 66.6 and 93.0 kg piglets weaned sow− 1 year− 1, and 136 and 177 g day− 1 ADG were found in two villages near town with semi-intensive production conditions and a high rate of improved Mong Cai sows and MC and LW × MC offspring in the observed population. Lower performances of 1.1 and 1.1 litters year− 1, 4.6 and 5.5 piglets weaned litter− 1, 20.5 and 30.9 kg piglets weaned sow− 1 year− 1, and 66 and 85 g day− 1 ADG were observed in parallel to higher incidences of indigenous Ban pigs away from town under extensive conditions. Total live weight offtake per household per year was higher near town and in one village distant to town. MC and LW × MC remained even under demand-driven conditions below the performance potential reported for improved genotypes. Under resource-driven conditions with a saving-oriented production pattern, the higher-yielding but more demanding Mong Cai might not be an efficient production alternative as a further performance reduction can be assumed. A considerable live weight output was observed under resource-driven conditions and with a higher percentage of crossbred LW × Ban offspring in the population, possibly representing a promising production alternative. Factors influencing the performance expression of pigs, and the suitability of different methods for the assessment of performance parameters on-farm are discussed. 相似文献
The outermost layer of skin, the epidermis, is cornified epithelial tissue composed of keratinocytes. To maintain the structure and function of the epidermis, the regulation of proliferation, differentiation, and cornification of keratinocytes is crucial, and various soluble factors secreted by keratinocytes are involved in these regulations. Previously, work has shown that keratinocytes secreted the protein Kdap (keratinocyte differentiation-associated protein) associated with the formation of cornified cell envelopes, a specialized protective barrier structure on the periphery of terminally differentiating keratinocytes. In the present report, the canine counterpart of human Kdap is identified and an attempt has been made to define its physiological role in canine keratinization. Canine Kdap (cKdap) showed structural features commonly observed in other counterparts and is secreted from transfected cells. The expression profile of cKdap mRNA, which was restrictively expressed in cornified epithelial tissues besides skin has also been determined. These findings indicate that there is a strong association between cKdap expression and cornification, which supports previous observations that Kdap is involved in the synthesis and/or degradation of cornified cell envelopes in humans and mice. 相似文献
Fenbendazole (FEN) and flubendazole (FLU) are benzimidazole anthelmintics often used in pig management for the control of nematodoses. The in vivo study presented here was designed to test the influence of FLU and FEN on cytochrome P4501A and other cytochrome P450 (CYP) isoforms, UDP-glucuronosyl transferase and several carbonyl reducing enzymes. The results indicated that FEN (in a single therapeutic dose as well as in repeated therapeutic doses) caused significant induction of pig CYP1A, while FLU did not show an inductive effect towards this isoform. Some of the other hepatic and intestinal biotransformation enzymes that were assayed were moderately influenced by FEN or FLU. Strong CYP1A induction following FEN therapy in pigs may negatively affect the efficacy and pharmacokinetics of FEN itself or other simultaneously or consecutively administered drugs. From the perspective of biotransformation enzyme modulation, FLU would appear to be a more convenient anthelmintic therapy of pigs than FEN. 相似文献
Young rabbit appendix is a homologue of chicken bursa of Fabricius; both are crucial sites for preimmune B-cell repertoire diversification. Here, we report that appendix regulates precursor lymphocyte recruitment for further development by modulating the sites of extravasation. The total area of peripheral node addressin-positive (PNAd(+)) high endothelial venules (HEVs) increased from 1 day to 1 week after birth, remained constant up to 2 weeks and declined to a low and persistent amount by 3 weeks. In normal 1-week and manipulated 5-week appendix where growth of follicles was retarded, PNAd(+) HEVs were present in the basolateral sides of B-cell follicles whereas, in normal 5-wk-appendix these were restricted to T-cell areas. The PNAd was expressed on the lumenal surface of HEVs. The proportions of CD62L(+) B cells in appendix declined from approximately 40% at 3 days to 2-3% at 4 weeks. In lymphocyte transfer experiments, CD62L(+) B cells were preferentially recruited compared with CD62L(-) B cells, anti-PNAd antibody blocked migration of B cells by approximately 50%, and 100 times more B cells were recruited in 1-week compared to 6-week appendix. Thus, a unique spatiotemporal expression pattern of PNAd(+) HEVs is associated with development of B-cell follicles. Equine herpesvirus-1 (EHV-1) is responsible for respiratory disease and abortion in pregnant mares. Some high virulence isolates of EHV-1 also cause neurological disease. The pathogenesis of both abortion and neurological disease relates in part, to thrombus formation occurring in the pregnant uterus and central nervous system. The differences in disease outcome may relate to differing abilities of high and low virulence EHV-1 isolates to cause cell-associated viraemia, infect endothelial cells and cause thrombosis at sites distant from the respiratory tract. This study attempted to identify in vitro assays, which could be used to characterise the interaction between these isolates, equine endothelial cells and clotting factors. No significant difference was found between the growth kinetics of high and low virulence isolates of EHV-1 in polarised endothelial cells. For both isolates, virus was released preferentially from the apical surface of the polarised cells. The functional effects of viral infection on endothelial cells, with reference to virally-induced thrombosis were then investigated. Endothelial cells were grown on microcarrier beads, infected with EHV-1 and assayed for procoagulant activity. No significant difference in clotting time was observed between mock and EHV-1 infected endothelial cells in microcarrier cultures. Thus the degree of thrombosis may reflect a more complex interaction between endothelial cells, circulating leucocytes and other factors in the microenvironment. 相似文献
