The processing of fish in general entails quantities of by-products, such as exoskeleton and cephalothorax of shrimp, which may reach 70%. Protein recovered from by-products has been investigated in recent years for its ability to offer more nutritious foods and improved functional properties. The objective of the present study was the use of the pH shifting process to recover proteins from solubilization and precipitation that are present in the by-products (heads and shells) of white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei). The proximal composition of the by-products presented 58.5% protein (d.b). The isoelectric point used to precipitate the protein was defined at pH 4. The protein concentrate presented 73.1% of protein. The yield of the protein concentrate mass resulted in 47.8% (w.b). The greatest solubility found for the protein concentrate was 51.3% at pH 8. The oil and water retention capacity resulted in values of 8.5 and 2.5 mL/g of protein, respectively, and the highest emulsifying capacity was found at pH 8. The by-products and concentrate amino acids profiles confirmed the presence of 16 amino acids. In general, the shrimp protein concentrate obtained showed the potential to be included as an ingredient in food formulations. 相似文献

The effects of dietary supplementation of graded level (0, 0.25, 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ml/kg diet) of Citrus aurantium essential oil (EOCA) on the growth, metabolic, and oxidative parameters of silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) were investigated in a 60‐day growth trial. Fish fed with 2.0 ml EOCA per kg exhibited significantly better growth performance than those fed the control diet. Glucose, lactate, and protein levels in liver and muscle were altered significantly by dietary addition of EOCA. Hepatic lipid peroxidation levels, measured using thiobarbituric acid reactive substance and lipid hydroperoxides assays, were reduced in animals receiving the diet containing EOCA. Superoxide dismutase activity was higher, while glutathione S‐transferase activity was lower in the liver of fish receiving 0.5, 1.0, and 2.0 ml EOCA per kg of diet than in control. The nonprotein thiols content was higher in fish receiving the EOCA‐containing diet. Thus, dietary addition of EOCA improved growth, biochemical, and antioxidant parameters in silver catfish and could be useful as dietary supplement. 相似文献

Although somatotropins are potent growth promoters in salmonids, there is little information on how these proteins are metabolized by poikilotherms. In the present study, the plasma uptake and clearance rates of recombinant chicken somatotropin (rcGH) were investigated in juvenile coho salmon (Oncorhynchus kisutch). Two doses of rcGH were administered by intraperitoneal (ip) or intramuscular (im) injection and blood samples were collected over a period of 32 days. A specific radioimmunoassay was validated and used to discriminate rcGH from endogenous somatotropin. Plasma rcGH concentration was proportional to the dose delivered, but uptake and clearance rates were found to be independent of dose (between 0.5 and 5.0 g/g). Absorption of rcGH into the plasma was faster from the im site, but the peak levels attained were similar after im or ip treatment (using the same dose) as was area under the curve. Plasma half-life was calculated from the declining phase of the uptake/clearance profile but the results were biased by the concurrent uptake of rcGH from the ip or im reservoir of material, resulting in an over-estimation of the true half-life value. The effects of transportation and electrical stimulation (90 V) on physiological, histochemical and meat quality characteristics of two breeds of Omani goats were assessed. Twenty 1‐year‐old male goats from each breed (Batina and Dhofari) were divided into two groups: 3 h transported during the hot season (42°C day time temperature) and non‐transported. Animals were blood‐sampled before loading and prior to slaughter. Electrical stimulation was applied 20 min postmortem to 50% randomly selected carcasses of both breeds. Temperature and pH decline of the Longissimus was monitored. Ultimate pH, shear force, sarcomere length, myofibrillar fragmentation index, expressed juice, cooking loss and colour were measured from samples of Longissimus dorsi muscles. Electrical stimulation and transportation had a significant effect on most biochemical and meat quality characteristics of Longissimus dorsi. The transported goats had higher plasma cortisol (P < 0.01), adrenaline, nor‐adrenaline and dopamine concentrations (P < 0.05) than non‐transported goats. Electrical stimulation resulted in a significantly (P < 0.05) more rapid muscle pH fall during the first 12 h after slaughter. Muscles from electrically‐stimulated carcasses had significantly (P < 0.05) longer sarcomeres, lower shear force value, a lighter colour (higher L* value), higher expressed juice and myofibrillar fragmentation index than those from non‐stimulated ones. Meat from transported goats had significantly higher pH, expressed juice and shear force, but contained significantly lower sarcomere length and L* values than non‐transported goats. The proportion of the myosin ATPase staining did not change as a function of stimulation, transportation or breed. These results indicated that subjecting goats to transportation for 3 h under high ambient temperatures can generate major physiological and muscle metabolism responses. Electrical stimulation improved quality characteristics of meat from both groups. This indicates that electrical stimulation may reduce detrimental effects of transportation on meat quality of Omani goats. 相似文献

A challenge in establishing agroforestry systems is ensuring that farmers are interested in the tree species, and are aware
of how to adequately manage these species. This challenge was tackled in the Atlantic Rainforest biome (Brazil), where a participatory
trial with agroforestry coffee systems was carried out, followed by a participatory systematisation of the farmers experiences.
Our objective was to identify the main tree species used by farmers as well as their criteria for selecting or rejecting tree
species. Furthermore, we aimed to present a specific inventory of trees of the Leguminosae family. In order to collect the
data, we reviewed the bibliography of the participatory trial, visited and interviewed the farmers and organised workshops
with them. The main farmers’ criteria for selecting tree species were compatibility with coffee, amount of biomass, production
and the labour needed for tree management. The farmers listed 85 tree species; we recorded 28 tree species of the Leguminosae
family. Most trees were either native to the biome or exotic fruit trees. In order to design and manage complex agroforestry
systems, family farmers need sufficient knowledge and autonomy, which can be reinforced when a participatory methodology is
used for developing on-farm agroforestry systems. In the case presented, the farmers learned how to manage, reclaim and conserve
their land. The diversification of production, especially with fruit, contributes to food security and to a low cost/benefit
ratio of agroforestry systems. The investigated agroforestry systems showed potential to restore the degraded landscape of
the Atlantic Rainforest biome. 相似文献

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effects of nitrogenous compounds and/or starch supplementation on the intake,
digestibility and rumen dynamics of neutral detergent fibre (NDF) in cattle fed low-quality tropical forage. Four crossbred
heifers (Holstein × Zebu) with a body weight 231.9 ± 15.5 kg and fitted with ruminal cannulae were used. The forage fed to
the animals consisted of low-quality signal grass (Brachiaria decumbens Stapf.) hay, with an average crude protein (CP) level of 51.6 g/kg, on a dry matter (DM) basis. Four treatments were evaluated:
control, without supplementation; supplementation with nitrogenous compounds (CP of the roughage was raised to 100 g/kg),
on a DM basis; supplementation with starch at a ratio of 200 g/kg DM of roughage; and supplementation with nitrogenous compounds
and starch as described above. A mixture of urea, ammonium sulphate and albumin was used as a source of nitrogenous compounds
at a ratio of 4.5:0.5:1.0. The experiment was carried out according to a 4 × 4 Latin square design in a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement.
There was a positive effect of the nitrogenous compound supplementation on the DM and NDF intake (P < 0.01). In contrast, starch supplementation decreased forage intake (P < 0.10). Nitrogen supplementation increased the digestibility coefficient of DM and NDF (P < 0.05). Supplementation with nitrogen and starch together increased the microbial assimilation of nitrogenous compounds
in the rumen (P < 0.05). We observed that nitrogen supplementation increased the estimated weighted degradation rate of NDF by 14.8%, whilst
starch supplementation decreased this rate by 32.5%. 相似文献

Vampire-bat (Desmodus rotundus) attacks on cattle are a major concern for cattle-raising area. Blood loss and paralytic rabies due to bat bites can impose severe losses on the livestock. We took four municipalities inside the Sao Joao da Boa Vista veterinary district (Sao Paulo, Brazil) as a study area and tested a set of landscape features for spatial correlation with distance to areas in which vampire-bat attacks on cattle were documented. Bat- and cattle-related data from the Sao Paulo State Rabies Control Program were used. Landscape data (first-order rivers and their tributaries, main roads, railways and urban areas) were obtained from official cartographic agencies; forest, sugarcane and pasture data were acquired from remote-sensing mappings. The study area was taken as a grid split into 178 cells. Each 4 km × 4 km cell was filled with bat, cattle and landscape data. Our analysis detected that grid cells that were closer to areas of bat attacks on cattle had higher cattle density and a greater percentage of the land committed to sugarcane cropping, and were close to forest fragments. These results shed light on the need for rethink the Rabies Control Program strategies for defining the surveillance of vampire-bat populations and rabies control in the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. 相似文献

Toxoplasma gondii invades and destroys nucleated cells of warm blooded hosts in a process which involves several steps: recognition, adhesion, penetration, multiplication inside a parasitophorous vacuole (PV) and egress. The last one is the least understood. Parasite egress from LLC-MK2 cells infected with the RH strain of T. gondii was artificially triggered with 4BrA23187 calcium ionophore. The combination of videomicroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) showed that egress does not result from host cell rupture due to overloading with tachyzoites. Videomicroscopy showed that upon calcium ionophore administration parasite rosettes disassemble, the contour of the parasitophorous vacuole disappears and each tachyzoite takes a separate route to the extracellular medium. FESEM and TEM showed the fragmentation of the intravacuolar network, the fragmentation of parasitophorous vacuole membrane and individual tachyzoites with extruded conoids migrating through the cytosol, tightly surrounded by remnants of parasitophorous vacuole membrane or free in the cytosol. Both videomicroscopy and FESEM showed that a single parasite can cross the host cell membrane without disrupting it, while a large number of parasites, egressing simultaneously, rupture the membrane and the cell as a whole. These data suggest that invasion and egress share less similarities than previously believed. 相似文献
