Effects of density and period of competition by Solanum nigrum L. on direct seeded tomatoes in relation to weed control The effects of density and period of competition from Solanum nigrum L. were measured in direct seeded tomatoes given weed control treatments currently used in south-east France. S. nigrum emerging after a diquat treatment at the 2–3 leaf stage of the crop and thinned to low densities (<12.8 plants ha?1) at the 5–6 leaf stage of the crop caused significant yield loss if left to compete with the crop until harvest. Yield reduction was smaller if the same weed densities were present only until the onset of flowering. The regression curves of yield on weed density differed as annual climatic variations affected sowing date and plant growth; a comparison between years was made using the relation ‘crop yield × weed biomass/crop biomass’. Significant interactions between weed density and period of competition were found with yield of both green and red fruit. For late sown crops with low densities of S. nigrum two weed control treatments at the 5–6 leaf stage and at the onset of flowering were sufficient to prevent yield loss.  相似文献

South American camelids show high embryo loss rate, during the first 60 days of pregnancy. One of the factors which may be related to this situation is that over 98% of the embryos implant in the left uterine horn (LUH) even though both ovaries contribute similarly to ovulation. There is scarce information about the uterine environment of female camelids at any physiological state that could explain the capability of the LUH to attract the embryo and maintain pregnancy. We describe, for the first time, the biochemical and protein profile of uterine fluid (UF), addressing the right and LUH environment in non‐pregnant and pregnant alpacas. Different substrates, electrolytes and metabolites were assayed in both uterine horn fluids. Small changes were observed in glucose and total protein levels, which were more noticeable during pregnancy. In addition, 10 specific proteins were found in the left horn fluid in 5‐week‐pregnant alpacas, and two protein bands were identified in non‐pregnant alpaca right horn fluid. These results would provide basic information for identification of possible markers for pregnancy diagnosis, reproductive diseases and hormone‐treated animals evaluation and hence contributing to improve the pregnancy rate.  相似文献

A field study was conducted to investigate the persistence of tebufenozide in white spruce foliage. An aqueous suspension concentrate formulation, RH-5992 2F, was sprayed over single trees at three dosage rates, 35, 70 and 140 g of the active ingredient (AI), in 2·0 litre ha−1, using ground application equipment. Foliage was collected at different intervals of time up to 64 days after treatment and tebufenozide residues were measured by high-performance liquid chromatography. Foliage was also fed to laboratory-reared 4th- and 6th-instar spruce budworm (Choristoneura fumiferana Clemens). The data indicated that tebufenozide residues in foliage declined with time according to first-order kinetics. The average rate-constant and half-life of disappearance (DT50) were 0·0340 and 20·45 days, respectively. Larval mortality declined gradually, corresponding to the residues, but was still appreciable (49 to 70%) when the larvae were fed with foliage collected 64 days after treatment. The amount of foliage consumed by the larvae decreased when foliar residues of tebufenozide increased, thus indicating anti-feedant activity of the chemical. The LD50 values for both instars were similar and averagedc.25 ng per insect, but the LD90 values were significantly lower for 4th-instar than for 6th-instar, at 63·6 and 96·1 ng per insect respectively. This implies that, theoretically, at a foliar concentration of 1·0 μg tebufenozide g−1 foliage (fresh wt), the spruce budworm larva needs to consume 65 to 100 mg of foliage in 10 days to cause mortality in about 90% of a population of the insect.  相似文献

Five commercial formulations of azadirachtin-A (AZ-A) Margosan-O®, Azatin-EC®, Neem-EC®, RH-9999 and Neemix® 4.5, were investigated for their volatilization and washoff potential in laboratory studies. Prior to the investigation, RH-9999 (a wettable powder) was mixed with water to provide an end-use formulation containing 35·6 g AZ-A kg-1, while the remaining four formulations were investigated without dilution. Volatilization and washoff of AZ-A occurred more from white spruce foliage than from wax-coated glass plates. Neem-EC provided the lowest amount of loss, whereas Margosan-O provided the highest. Physical properties and atomization behaviour of the five formulations indicated that Azatin-EC was highly viscous and caused phase separation in droplets collected on glass plates after atomization in a rotary atomizer. RH-9999, despite its low viscosity, caused phase separation in droplets because of the heterogeneity of the wettable powder formulation. Based on the minimum loss of AZ-A due to volatilization and washoff from spruce foliage, and on the minimum potential for phase separation in droplets after atomization in a rotary atomizer, Neem-EC was considered to be the most appropriate choice for use in field studies to investigate environmental persistence and fate of AZ-A in terrestrial and aquatic matrices of a forest ecosystem. The Neem-EC formulation was sprayed at 40 and 80 g AI ha-1 over single spruce trees and on litter and soil plots selected in a mixed-wood boreal forest in Ontario, Canada. In addition, outdoor aquaria containing stream water and sediment were also fortified with the formulation at 400 and 800 g AI ha-1. Persistence of AZ-A was evaluated using one-year-old spruce needles, current-year shoots, spruce bark, litter, soil, stream water and sediment. The duration of persistence varied from 3 to 6 days in terrestrial matrices, whereas it ranged from 8 to 13 days in water, and 2 to 3 days in sediment. The half-life (DT50) values ranged from 10·7 h (for soil) to 71·6 h (for spruce bark) at the lower dosage rate, and from 18·8 h (for litter) to 76·2 h (for bark) at the higher dosage rate. The DT50 value for stream water was about 35 h regardless of the dosage rate applied. 种群更新对维持种群的稳定和发展具有极其重要的意义。通过野外实地调查,对不同地区乌冈栎种群的更新情况进行了分析,结果如下:1)大多数地区乌冈栎种群的幼苗结构呈倒金字塔型,说明乌冈栎种群的更新存在一定的困难;但在乌冈栎顶级群落中,由于仍存在一定数量的幼树,短期内的更新仍能继续进行;2)从乌冈栎幼苗空间分布格局来看,林窗或林缘处呈聚集分布,而林冠下呈均匀分布,这与乌冈栎幼苗生长的需光性有极大的关系;3)乌冈栎的萌发实验表明,1~2个月的沙藏处理有利于提高萌发率,而萌发过程中鼠害和虫蛀是限制出苗率的主要原因之一;4)乌冈栎种子的传播除靠重力外,啮齿类动物对它的影响最大,他们之间存在一定的权衡关系。为了提高乌冈栎种群的天然更新率,适当干扰地开辟林窗是较佳的途径。  相似文献

Some of the highest genetic merit sires have been shown to harbour recessive mutations affecting fertility, which may spread rapidly in the population through AI. These disorders may result in abortion and decline in pregnancy per insemination in cows. This study was carried out on 240 Holstein‐Friesian cows and 15 mummified foetuses. Blood and tissue samples were collected from the cows and mummified foetuses, respectively, for DNA extraction. Allele‐specific PCR was designed for the detection of the cows and foetuses carrying the nonsense mutation (C/T) in apoptosis peptide activating factor 1 gene (APAF1). The mutant allele frequency of the APAF1 in carrier cows and mummified foetuses was calculated. Milk samples were taken from the carrier and non‐carrier cows for progesterone assay. The allele‐specific PCR reaction efficiently distinguished the C/T mutation in APAF1. Of 240 cows, seven cows (2.9%) were diagnosed to carry one copy of the mutant allele of APAF1. However, the carrier frequency was 33.3% in mummified foetuses (five of 15). The mutant allele frequency was 0.02 and 0.17 in the cows and mummified foetuses, respectively. Concentrations of progesterone did not differ between cows with APAF1 mutation and non‐carrier cows during 45 days post‐insemination. This study provided allele‐specific PCR for the detection of APAF1 mutation in cows. Moreover, it reports the carrier and mutant allele frequencies of APAF1 in dairy cows and mummified foetuses in Japan.  相似文献

Dietary protein, carbohydrates, fats and fibre have marked influences on gastrointestinal tract function and dysfunction. This article reviews the nutritional management of common gastrointestinal disorders in companion animals and introduces some of the current areas of research including probiotics, prebiotics, protein-hydrolysate diets, immunonutrition and dietary fibre.

Nutritional management of oesophageal disease revolves around varying the consistency of the diet and feeding the animal from an elevated container. Provision of bowel rest remains the mainstay of the management of acute gastroenteritis but food-based oral rehydration solutions are a useful adjunct. The recommended diet for chronic small bowel diarrhoea is a highly digestible, hypoallergenic, gluten-free, low-lactose and low-fat diet with modest amounts of fermentable fibre. The use of probiotics in the management of diarrhoea in companion animals has not yet been shown to be beneficial. It is likely that prebiotics will prove more effective than probiotics in the prevention of enteropathogenic infections.

Approximately 50% of cats in New Zealand that suffer from chronic idiopathic vomiting or diarrhoea will respond to a novel-protein-elimination diet and approximately 30% meet the diagnostic criteria for food sensitivity. Growing evidence supports the use of protein-hydrolysate diets in the management of inflammatory bowel disease and further advances in immunonutrition are expected. The dietary management of colitis should include a hypoallergenic diet with a fermentable fibre source.

Manipulation of the diet provides clinicians a powerful therapeutic strategy to be used alone or concurrently with drug therapy in the management of gastrointestinal disorders.  相似文献

The archaeological site of Quebrada Tacahuay, Peru, dates to 12,700 to 12,500 calibrated years before the present (10,770 to 10,530 carbon-14 years before the present). It contains some of the oldest evidence of maritime-based economic activity in the New World. Recovered materials include a hearth, lithic cutting tools and flakes, and abundant processed marine fauna, primarily seabirds and fish. Sediments below and above the occupation layer were probably generated by El Nino events, indicating that El Nino was active during the Pleistocene as well as during the early and middle Holocene.  相似文献
