The objective of this retrospective study was to estimate using magnetic resonance imaging the size range of the pituitary gland in cats who had no evidence of pituitary disease. The pituitary gland was measured from transverse and sagittal magnetic resonance postgadolinium T1-weighted images in 17 cats. The cats were 0.83 to 15 years of age and weighed between 2.9 and 6.5 kg. Linear pituitary measurements were performed on a dedicated workstation using electronic calipers. Mean (+/- standard deviation) pituitary gland length was 0.54 cm (+/- 0.06 cm) and mean width was 0.50 cm (+/- 0.08 cm). Mean pituitary gland height measured on sagittal images was 0.34 cm (+/- 0.05) and measured on transverse images was 0.32 cm (+/- 0.04 cm). Mean pituitary volume was 0.05 cm3 (+/- 0.01 cm3). There was no significant correlation between cat weight (kg) and pituitary volume or age and pituitary volume. The pituitary gland appearance varied on pre- and postcontrast T1-weighted images. On the precontrast images, the majority of pituitary glands had a mixed signal intensity. On postcontrast images, uniform pituitary gland enhancement was seen commonly.  相似文献

Summary Whole-ring density in blue pine (Pinus wallichiana A. B. Jacks.) decreases from base to the top of tree in rings numbered from bark as well as in rings numbered from pith. It is negatively and significantly correlated with percentage height. General pattern remains the same, when sampling is done internodally or when it is done at fixed positions (percentages) along the boles of blue pine trees. Abstract: A 10‐year‐old spayed female Boxer‐mix was presented with a history of several weeks of soft stools, straining to defecate, inappetance, and lethargy and several days of hematochezia, melena, and dyschezia. Physical examination findings included mild tachycardia and tense cranial abdomen. CBC results indicated moderate mature neutrophilia. Ultrasonographic examination of the abdomen revealed a large mass with complex echogenicity in the cranial abdomen, likely associated with the intestines. Cytologic examination of a fine‐needle aspirate revealed a population of round, stellate, and spindle‐shaped cells arranged individually and in aggregates with occasional cells embedded in an eosinophilic extracellular matrix. The cytologic interpretation was malignant mesenchymal neoplasm with osteosarcoma being the primary differential. Surgical exploration of the abdomen revealed a 10‐cm‐diameter mass located at the intestinal mesenteric root. The mass occluded blood flow to portions of the gastrointestinal tract. The dog was euthanized due to the nonresectable nature of the tumor. Histopathologic examination revealed an expansile poorly demarcated mesenchymal neoplasm composed predominantly of spindloid and pyriform cells, occasionally embedded in a matrix compatible with osteoid. The diagnosis was extraskeletal osteosarcoma of the intestinal mesenteric root, only rarely reported in dogs.  相似文献

Differences in soil P among silvopasture, grassland, and arable lands have been well established. Nevertheless, most of the reports compare soil properties under long‐term sites. Thus, there exists little information on the effect of the conversion of silvopasture to arable or grassland use on soil P pools. The objective of the study was to determine the impact of converting silvopasture system (SP) into arable cropping and grassland system on the distribution of P pools and potential P bioavailability. We compared the following systems: SP system, SP converted to arable cropland (SP‐AL), SP converted to grassland (SP‐GL), and for comparative purposes, a long‐term arable cropland (AL). The P fractionation was performed by a sequential extraction scheme, using acid and alkaline extractants on samples collected from the 0–10 and 10–20 cm soil layers. It was assumed that the large variations in soil‐P fractionations are caused by the different management practices associated with land conversion. The results of P fractionation showed a dominance of calcium‐bound P, HCl‐extractable Pi constituted up to 36% of the soil total P (TP). However, the type of land use did not affect this P fraction. On the other hand, the reduction in labile‐Pi and NaOH‐Pi fractions observed at the SP‐AL site may have led to the decline in readily available P. The soil total organic P (TPo) content was 8% and 17% lower at SP‐AL compared to SP and SP‐GL site, respectively. Labile organic‐P (labile‐Po) content was markedly higher at SP site compared to arable soils, and was ≈ 10% of TPo. The NaOH‐Po constituted the highest fraction of the organic‐P pool (55%–79% of TPo) across all the study systems, and was positively correlated with TPo (p < 0.01). The study indicates that conversion of SP system in temperate regions to arable cropping with conventional tillage seems to result in the reduction of P availability compared to SP, indicating SP as an important land‐use practice.  相似文献

Genetic transformation is a useful technique to complement conventional breeding in crop improvement. Although carrot has been a model organism for in vitro embryogenesis study, genetic transformation of carrot is still lengthy and labor intensive. An efficient transformation and detection system is desirable. Direct infection of Agrobacterium to carrot calli has provided an easy way for carrot genetic transformation. To improve the efficiency of antibiotic selection in this method, we report the combined use of an improved green-fluorescent protein, referred to as smGFP, to establish a versatile selection method for carrot callus transformation system. By combining antibiotic selection with the bright fluorescence observed in the callus tissue, we were able to easily identify stable transformants in early stage of the transformation process. In addition to the GFP expression of the callus cells, the transgenic nature of callus cells was confirmed with Southern and Western analysis. We found we can link the simplicity of carrot-callus-cell transformation, early detection of stable transformants with antibiotic selection, visualization of GFP fluorescence, and molecular analysis (Southern and Western) of callus tissue (non-photosynthetic tissue) to provide a more efficient way in identifying stable transformants at early stage of carrot transformation.  相似文献
