Indian cashew breeding programme has produced 24 selections and 11 hybrids with increased yield and excellent nut characters. Molecular profiles of these varieties were developed using a combination of five RAPD and four ISSR primers pre-selected for maximum discrimination and repeatability. A total of 94 markers were generated which discriminated all the varieties with a probability of identical match by chance of2.8 × 10-11. There was no correlation between the relationships based on molecular data and the pedigree of the varieties. Narrow range of average similarity values among major cashew breeding centres with only 3.6% of molecular variance partitioned between them was attributed to the exchange of genetic material in developing varieties. Difference in the average similarity coefficients between selections and hybrids was low indicating the need and scope for identification of more parental lines in enhancing the effectiveness of hybridisation programme. Bacterial blight (BB) is a major disease of rice for which host resistance is the only effective solution. The three genes pyramid xa5 + xa13 + Xa21 is recently the most utilized combination for developing resistant varieties through marker‐assisted breeding. Our study was carried out to elicit the detailed response of twenty lines possessing these three genes in five genetic backgrounds to twelve diverse BB pathotypes in India. The lines developed from ADT 47 variety showed incomplete resistance to most of the pathotypes, whereas susceptibility varied from 8.3% to 16.6% in ADT 43 and IR24, respectively. However, in IMP ASD16/60 and Improved Samba Mahsuri, complete resistance against all pathotypes was observed. The overall results confirmed that genetic background plays crucial role for the effective expression of xa+ xa13 + Xa21 combination. Molecular studies did not reveal correlation between origin of pathotypes and their virulence potential. It is suggested to deploy Improved Samba Mahsuri, IMP ASD 16/60 and AD1306 varieties in the bacterial blight prone areas or use them as donors for realizing wider and durable resistance.  相似文献

The present study was conducted in tropical Sal forest ecosystem of the Doon valley in the Indian Himalayas to assess the critical load of sulfur and nitrogen and their exceedances. The observed pattern of throughfall ionic composition in the study are Ca2+>K+>Mg2+>Cl?>?HCO3?>?Na+>NO 3 ? >?SO 3 2? ???NH 4 + >F?. The sum of cation studied is 412.29 ??eq l?1 and that of anions is 196.98 ??eq l?1, showing cation excess of 215.31 ??eq l?1. The cations, namely Ca2+, Mg2+, K+, Na+, and NH 4 + , made a contribution of about 67% of the total ion strength, where as anion comprising of SO 4 2? , Cl?, NO 3 ? , and HCO 3 ? contributed 33%. The chief acidic components were Cl?C (12%) and HCO 3 ? (8%), while the presence of SO 4 2? (5%) and NO 3 ? (6%), respectively. Percentage contribution of bole to total aboveground biomass was ??72.38% in comparison to 2.24?C2.93% of leaf biomass, 10.34?C10.96% of branch biomass and 13.21?C17.07% of bark biomass. There was high and significant variation (P?<?0.001) in the total aboveground biomass produced at different sites. The aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP) in these sites ranged between 2.09 and 9.22 t ha?1 year?1. The base cations and nitrogen immobilization was found to be maximum in bole. The net annual uptake of the base cations varied from 306.85 to 1,311.46 eq ha?1 year?1 and of nitrogen from 68.27 to 263.51 eq ha?1 year?1. The critical appraisal of soil showed that cation exchange capacity lied between 18.37 and 10.30 Cmol (p+) kg?1. The base saturation percentage of soil was as high as 82.43% in Senkot, whereas in Kalusidh it was just 44.28%. The local temperature corrected base cation weathering rates based on soil mineralogy, parent material class, and texture class varied from 484.15 to 627.25 eq ha?1 year?1, showing a weak potentiality of the system to buffer any incoming acidity and thus providing restricted acid neutralizing capacity to keep the ecosystem stable under increased future deposition scenarios in near future. The appreciable BS of the soil indicates the presence of intense nutrient phytorecycling forces within this climate and atmospheric deposition in replenishing base cations in the soil, which includes intrinsic soil-forming processes, i.e., weathering. The highest value of critical load for acidity was 2,896.50 eq ha?1 year?1 and the lowest was 2,792.45 eq ha?1 year?1. The calculated value of the minimum critical loads for nitrogen varied from 69.77 to 265.01 eq ha?1 year?1, whereas the maximum nitrogen critical load ranged between 2,992.63 and 4,394.45 eq ha?1 year?1. The minimum and the maximum critical loads of sulfur ranged between 2,130.49 and 3,261.64 eq ha?1 year?1 and 2,250.58 and 3,381.73 eq ha?1 year?1, respectively. The values of exceedance of sulfur and nitrogen were negative, implying that in the current scenario Sal forests of the Doon valley are well protected from acidification.  相似文献

Asian ginseng (Panax ginseng C.A. Meyer) is widely used as an Oriental medicine in the East Asian regions, particularly Korea and China. In the study, the strontium isotope ratios ((87)Sr/(86)Sr), multielements, and metabolite profiles of 35 ginseng samples collected from Korea and China were examined in an attempt to develop a method to distinguish the origin of ginsengs from the two countries. A multivariate statistical approach was performed to analyze the multielements and the (1)H nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data. Results of a t-test for Mg, Fe, Al, and Sc showed significant variation between Korean and Chinese ginsengs, indicating potential tracers for discriminating them. Discriminating between the ginsengs from the two countries was generally successful when both the (87)Sr/(86)Sr ratios and rare earth element (REE) contents were used together. Moreover, principal component analysis (PCA) derived from the (1)H NMR data revealed a significant separation between the ginsengs originating from the two countries. The major metabolites responsible for differentiation were sugars such as glucose, xylose, and sucrose. The results suggest that this multiplatform approach offers a comprehensive method to distinguish the origin of ginsengs.  相似文献

The uptake, transformation and fate of Se, added as selenate to a mixed microbial ecosystem containing Se-tolerant bacteria and cyanobacteria, has been studied in simulated laboratory ponds. There was evidence of concerted activities of the microbial community in the system. Motile bacteria were responsible for transport into a surface mat and the combined actions of the microbial consortium provide chemical conditions under which the Se could be reduced to the elemental form and physically entrained in the mat. Strong qualitative indications of the formation of volatile alkylselenium compounds were also observed. The removal of Se from the water column was rapid and essentially quantitative. The advantages of such biological ecosystems for remediation of Se-contaminated aquatic ecosystems are discussed.  相似文献

Three spices, chili, black pepper, and turmeric, were tested for the effect of their aqueous extracts on the sensitivity of three bacteria, Escherichia coli, Bacillus megaterium, and Bacillus pumilusspores, to gamma-radiation. It was found that the extracts of the three spices offered protection to these organisms against inactivation by gamma-radiation. These spice extracts were also tested for their protection of naked plasmid DNA. Radiation-induced degradation of plasmid pUC18 DNA was reduced in the presence of the spice extracts. The maximum protection was offered by the chili extract followed by that of black pepper and turmeric. The two known antioxidants, curcumin and piperine from turmeric and black pepper, respectively, were shown to protect the plasmid DNA from the degradation by gamma-radiation. Experiments with the plasmid pUC18 DNA indicated that the spice extracts probably protected microorganisms by protecting their DNA. These studies indicated the importance of spices among ingredients in food as dose-modifying factors during radiation processing.  相似文献

Treatment efficacy studies typically use pre‐treatment sea lice abundance as the baseline. However, the pre‐treatment counting window often varies from the day of treatment to several days before treatment. We assessed the effect of lead time on baseline estimates, using historical data (2010–14) from a sea lice data management programme (Fish‐iTrends). Data were aggregated at the cage level for three life stages: (i) chalimus, (ii) pre‐adult and adult male and (iii) adult female. Sea lice counts were log‐transformed, and mean counts by lead time relative to treatment day were computed and compared separately for each life stage, using linear mixed models. There were 1,658 observations (treatment events) from 56 sites in 5 Bay Management Areas. Our study showed that lead time had a significant effect on the estimated sea lice abundance, which was moderated by season. During the late summer and autumn periods, counting on the day of treatment gave significantly higher values than other days and would be a more appropriate baseline estimate, while during spring and early summer abundance estimates were comparable among counts within 5 days of treatment. A season‐based lead time window may be most appropriate when estimating baseline sea lice levels.  相似文献
