Horizontal transfer of indoxacarb among workers of the Formosan subterranean termite, Coptotermes formosanus Shiraki, was examined under laboratory conditions. The effects of dose (0, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200 ng AI per donor), donor:recipient ratio (1:1, 1:4 or 1:9) and post-exposure time (2, 4, 8, 16, 20 and 24 days) on lethal transfer of indoxacarb were investigated using a donor/recipient model in groups of 100 workers. Transfer of lethal doses from donors to recipients was evidenced by significant recipient mortality in 13 out of 15 treatments within 24 days post-exposure. Dosage significantly affected indoxacarb transfer. Higher doses resulted in greater recipient mortality than lower doses. The highest dose tested resulted in 100% death of recipients and donors within 20 days. A dose of 100 ng resulted in recipient mortalities ranging from 68 to 100%, whereas doses < or =50 ng killed <60% of recipients within 24 days. Donor:recipient ratio also had considerable effect on indoxacarb transfer. At 24 days post-exposure, greater recipient mortalities were observed at ratios > or =1:4 at doses > or =20 ng, but only at a ratio 1:1 at dose 10 ng. Recipient mortality increased significantly as post-exposure time increased. The higher the doses applied on donors, the shorter were the times required for the onset of recipient mortality to occur and for recipients to reach maximum mortality. Significantly greater recipient mortalities were not observed at doses 20 and 50 ng until more than 20 days post-exposure, indicating a delayed activity of indoxacarb. Influence of the time of K fertilization on the dynamics of NH4-N fixed by clay minerals after slurry application In a pot experiment with topsoil and subsoil of a luvisol derived from loess the influence of the time of K fertilization on the fixation of NH4-N supplied with slurry as well as on the leaching and the availability of NH4-N fixed by clay minerals after slurry application was investigated. The following results were obtained: In both soils K fertilization before slurry application resulted in a reduced fixation of the added NH4+.In the topsoil 8 % of the NH4+ supplied with the slurry could be detected in spring as nonexchangeable NH4+ when slurry was added in October and 13 % when slurry was added in January in the treatment K after slurry, when in the treatment K. before slurry the NH4+ fixed after slurry application had been mobilized totally. In the subsoil 45 % of the NH4+ fixed after slurry application in October were mobilized until spring in the treatment K before slurry and only 20 % in the treatment K after slurry. When slurry was applied in January 30 % and 12 %, respectively, were mobilized. In spite of the reduced nitrogen leaching in the treatments K after slurry yield and N uptake of grass were lower as compared to the treatments K before slurry. 相似文献

Seven trials including 768 cattle were conducted in South Africa and Namibia to evaluate the efficacy of the systemic parasiticide ivermectin when administered subcutaneously at a dose rate of 200 micrograms/kg against sarcoptic (Sarcoptes scabiei var. bovis), chorioptic (Chorioptes bovis) and psoroptic (Psoroptes ovis var. bovis) mange mites. The efficacy of a single treatment against Psoroptes and Sarcoptes was greater than against Chorioptes. There was marked clinical cure in all treated cases with loss of crusts and hair regrowth. The number of cases of psoroptic mange in two large herds, of which 42.4% of 724 animals were clinically affected prior to mass treatment, was reduced by 99.3% following a single subcutaneous treatment with ivermectin; a single animal from which mites were recovered may not have been treated. The apparent prevalence and prospects for control and eradication of cattle mange in South Africa and Namibia are discussed. 相似文献

The hypothesis was that forage species and ensiling conditions have an impact on the formation of biogenic amines and the feed choice of goats in short‐term preference trials. At ensiling, lucerne (Medicago sativa L., first cut), red clover (Trifolium pratense L., first cut) and Italian ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam ., second cut) were treated differently to obtain a range of fermentation qualities. Six treatments of each forage species were prepared and included different dry‐matter concentrations, chemical and biological silage additives, and additions of soil. Silages were sampled for chemical analyses (proximate constituents, fermentation products and other volatile compounds, crude protein fractions and biogenic amines) and stored anaerobically in vacuum‐sealed plastic bags for use in preference trials (one trial for each forage species) with Saanen‐type wethers (n = 8 or 6). Each possible two‐way combination of the six silage treatments and a standard hay (n = 21 combinations) was offered for ad libitum intake for 3 hr. Data were analysed using multidimensional scaling, analysis of variance and correlation analysis between silage characteristics and dry‐matter intake (DMI). For each forage species, fermentation characteristics and crude protein fractions revealed only small differences among treatments. Although the degree of proteolysis, as measured by non‐protein nitrogen, of all silages was high, biogenic amine and butyric acid concentrations were low. The different treatments apparently had no direct influence on the formation of biogenic amines and feed choice. The preference behaviour within one forage species was strongly divergent, but DMI rankings of the three species were very similar. 相似文献

This study evaluated whether anesthesia with essential oil (EO) of Lippia alba (300 mg L?1 for 4 min) prior to electronarcosis (128 V m?1 × 300 Hz for 5 s) or hypothermia (ice/water slurry) could delay fish spoilage during chilled storage of whole fish. Silver catfish (Rhamdia quelen) were subjected to two different pre-stunning treatments (water or anesthesia with EO of L. alba) followed by two different stunning procedures (hypothermia or electrical stunning), yielding four groups (n = 32/group): water (control) + hypothermia, water (control) + electrical stunning, EO of L. alba + hypothermia, and EO of L. alba + electrical stunning. After stunning, fish were slaughtered by percussion and stored in ice. Preslaughter anesthesia with the EO of L. alba extended fish shelf life by delaying the loss of freshness (nucleotide degradation), growth of Enterobacteriaceae, and fish deterioration (sensory evaluation). Such preservative effect was most remarkable for fish that were subsequently submitted to electrical stunning, as they had the lowest demerit scores and greatest shelf life in the sensory evaluation. The juçara fruits (Euterpe edulis Martius), native to the Atlantic Forest, are rich in anthocyanins. To preserve the anthocyanins in juçara fruit pulp, this study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of microencapsulation by spray drying and freeze drying with maltodextrin (dextrose equivalent 16.5 to 19.5) and gum arabic in different proportions. The obtained microparticles were characterized by quantifying the total polyphenol and anthocyanin contents, by performing differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetry, and infrared spectroscopy and by using scanning electron microscopy to analyze the morphology of the particles. The total amount of polyphenols in the fruit pulp was 750?±?16.7 mg GAE/100 g of the freeze-dried sample. The total anthocyanins in the fruit pulp was 181.25?±?5.36 (mg/100 g). The microparticles were formed by employing maltodextrin and gum arabic in a 1:1 proportion as the polymeric matrix; the mixtures of pulp and polymeric matrix were prepared in proportions of 2:3 and 2:1, preserving up to 83.69% of the anthocyanin content. Lyophilization of the 2:1 mixture resulted in an anthocyanin content of 116.89?±?4.43 (mg/100 g), whereas lyophilization of the 2:3 mixture resulted in 151.68?±?1.39 (mg/100 g) anthocyanin content, which did not differ from the value obtained by spray drying the 2:3 mixture (150.76?±?5.79 (mg/100 g)). Thermal analyses showed that the microparticles obtained by freeze drying at a ratio of 2:3 presented greater resistance to degradation with increasing temperature. The incorporation of the pulp in the polymeric matrix was demonstrated by IR analyses. Microparticles obtained by freeze drying showed the formation of various-sized flakes, whereas those obtained by spray drying were spherical in shape. Microencapsulation is a possible alternative for improving the stability of the anthocyanins in this fruit. 相似文献

In pot experiments with two typical paddy soils, we studied the significance of ammonium fixation under waterlogged conditions and the availability of this N fraction for wetland rice. Special attention was given to the influence of redox potential (Eh) on the fixation and release of NH+4, since the Eh has been shown to affect the charge conditions of certain expandable clay minerals and may alter their cation exchange capacity (CEC). The results demonstrate that ammonium formed by mineralization after flooding was converted, to a substantial degree, into a non-exchangeable form when sufficient amounts of expandable 2:1 minerals were present. The newly fixed NH+4 was protected from N losses via nitrification-denitrification processes, which may occur, especially during the drying and rewetting of the soil, but was completely available to the following rice crop. The release of fixed NH+4 was highest in the rhizosphere of rice plants (where the Eh was greatly increased by the O2 secretion of the roots) and decreased with growing distance from the roots. Correlations between the Eh and the concentration of non-exchangeable NH+4 indicate that fixation and mobilization of ammonium are strongly influenced by the redox potential in paddy soils. 相似文献

Behavioral responses, blood markers, and fillet properties were investigated after silver catfish exposure to different electric field strengths, frequency, and duration of electric current in the preslaughter stunning. All combinations of electric fields and frequencies were able to stun fish. Longer apparent stun was obtained at the intermediate electrical frequencies. High electric field strength detracted the texture of fillets. At least 5 s was required to stun fish, and longer exposure to electrical current did not prolong the apparent stun or damage fillet properties. Effect of Fe-and Mn-deficiency on the cation and anion content of maize and sunflower. 1. In sandculture experiments with maize and sunflower the influence of Fe-and Mn-deficiency on the concentration of inorganic ions and organic acids in the plants was studied. 2. Fe-deficiency increased in both maize and sunflower plants the excess of cations (C-A) and the amount of organic acids (SOS). In sunflower this reaction was less intensive than in previous experiments with younger plants. 3. Mn-deficiency did not lead to the same clear reaction in both plant species as in the case of Fe-deficiency, although in the later harvestings (C-A)-and (SØ)-values of the deficient plants increased. 4. In both plant species the cultivars with higher susceptibility to Fe-chlorosis did not differ in their reaction on Fe-or Mn-deficiency from the normal cultivars. 5. A specific reaction of the plants on either Fe-or Mn-deficiency in respect to their ion concentration could not be confirmed. 相似文献
