Three types of tumors termed plasmacytomas (ABPC's), lymphosarcomas (ABLS's), and plasmacytoid lymphosarcomas (ABPL's) arise in BALB/c mice treated with pristane and Abelson murine leukemia virus (A-MuLV). While most ABPC's and BLS's contain integrated A-MuLV proviral genome and synthesize the v-abl RNA, most ABPL's do not. The ABPL tumors were examined for the expression of other oncogenes that may be associated with their transformed state, in the absence of transforming virus. These tumors expressed abundant c-myb RNA of unusually large size and showed DNA rearrangements of the c-myb locus.  相似文献

Monochromatic images of Mercury at the sodium D(2) emission line showed excess sodium emission in localized regions at high northern and southern latitudes and day-to-day global variations in the distribution of sodium emission. These phenomena support the suggestion that magnetospheric effects could be the cause. Sputtering of surface minerals could produce sodium vapor in polar regions during magnetic substorms, when magnetospheric ions directly impact the surface. Another important process may be the transport of sodium ions along magnetic field lines toward polar regions, where they impact directly on the surface of Mercury and are neutralized to regenerate neutral sodium atoms. Day-to-day variations in planetary sodium distributions could result from changing solar activity, which can change the magnetosphere in time scales of a few hours. Observations of the sodium exosphere may provide a tool for remote monitoring of the magnetosphere of Mercury.  相似文献

Efficient transport of class I major histocompatibility complex molecules to the cell surface requires association of the class I heavy chain with endogenous peptide and the class I light chain, beta 2-microglobulin (beta 2M). A mutant cell line deficient in beta 2M transports low amounts of nonpeptide-associated heavy chains to the cell surface that can associate with exogenously provided beta 2M and synthetic peptide antigens. Normal beta 2M-sufficient cells grown in serum-free media devoid of beta 2M also require an exogenous source of beta 2M to efficiently bind synthetic peptide. Thus, class I molecules on normal cells do not spontaneously bind or exchange peptides.  相似文献

A disorder of Michigan potatoes tentatively called speckle leaf is associated, in part, with air pollution injury. The disease is characterized by reduced yields following early vine maturity, premature vine death, and yellowing of the lower leaves. Necrotic spots developed on the upper surface of leaves, followed by bronzing, and upward leaf rolling. Severely affected leaves became chlorotic and remained attached to the stem. Potato plants were grown in two plastic houses through which was blown either ambient field air or ambient air filtered through activated charcoal. Plants grown in the plastic house receiving ambient air developed symptoms similar to nearby field plants. Plants grew normally in filtered ambient air and remained free of speckle leaf and air pollution injury symptoms. The potato varieties Haig, Norchip, and Superior were most sensitive, Sebago was intermediate, and Kennebec and Katahdin were most tolerant. Tobacco plants in ambient non-filtered air developed symptoms typical of ozone injury. Bean leaves became bronzed with brown necrotic flecks on both surfaces, and severely affected leaves dropped. Neither tobacco nor bean was affected in the filtered air.  相似文献

1. Perca fluviatilis was sampled monthly over 2 years from the shallow waters (<2 m deep) of the Collie River in south-western Australia to determine the diet of this introduced species and the extent to which it comprised indigenous fish species. 2. As P. fluviatilis increased in size, its diet shifted from predominantly planktonic crustaceans to benthic invertebrates, with decapod crustaceans constituting between 55% and 88% of the volume of the food ingested by larger fish (> 120 mm long) in spring, summer and autumn. 3. All size groups of P. fluviatilis fed on the small indigenous teleosts Edelia vittata and Bostockia porosa. 4. The prevalence with which the different size groups of P. fluviatilis ingested indigenous fish species in the main channel of the river was as high as 14% in fish < 50 mm long in summer, 25% in fish 50–120 mm long in spring and 17% of fish > 120 mm long in autumn. 5. Despite appreciable predation and a relatively high prevalence of P. fluviatilis, indigenous fish species have coexisted with perch in the Collie River since the early 1900s. Such coexistence has apparently been facilitated by a high density of invertebrate prey (as a result of eutrophication) and limited interspecific dietary overlap. 6. The absence of E. vittata in those parts of a nearby river system now occupied by P. fluviatilis and the extremely high prevalence of fish that is sometimes found in P. fluviatilis stomachs, suggest that under certain extreme conditions, such as when a marked depletion in alternative food sources occurs, the presence of perch could pose a threat to the conservation of indigenous fish species in certain river systems in south-western Australia.  相似文献
