Development of the conceptus was characterised using B-mode ultrasound in a standard size of dog (labrador retrievers, golden retrievers and their crosses; weight range 22 to 30 kg). Growth curves were established for various measurements of the conceptuses. Regression equations allowed the prediction of the expected time of parturition. Multiple regression analysis of two measurements (biparietal diameter and trunk diameter) resulted in an increase in the confidence of prediction. 相似文献

Coastal Chip is a medium-late maturing potato chipping variety suitable for production in locations along the east coast of the United States where heat stress reduces internal quality of tubers. It yields as well as the variety Atlantic but is not as susceptible to heat necrosis. The specific gravity of Coastal Chip averages approximately 0.010 less than Atlantic at locations subject to heat stress. In the seed producing areas of Maine it’s specific gravity averages approximately 0.005 less than that of Atlantic. Tubers are round, netted-skinned, and have moderately deep stem and bud ends. Chips from Coastal Chip are slightly lighter in color than those produced by Atlantic. In mid-Atlantic states where heat stress adversely affects chip color Coastal Chip processes into chips for a slightly longer period of time after harvest than does Atlantic. Glycoalkaloid content of Coastal Chip averaged 7.9 mg/100 g fresh tissue. Sunburned (green) tubers of Coastal Chip develop purple streaks that remain following processing. Hills must be properly covered to reduce losses. Coastal Chip is resistant to race A of the golden nematode (Globodera rostochiensis) and potato virus A. It is tolerant to Verticillium wilt, more susceptible to common scab and Rhizoctonia than Atlantic and susceptible to potato virus X. 相似文献

A serological survey of 213 randomly chosen dairy farm residents in the Manawatu showed that 66 (34%) of the people who milked cows had leptospiral titres ≤ 1:24 by the Microscopic Agglutination Test. Forty-eight (72.7%) of these people had titres to hardjo, while 29 (43.9%) had titres to pomona. Dual hardjo/pomona titres occurred in 12 people. Ballum and Copenhageni accounted for 8% of the titres found. Women milkers and farm residents who did not milk were all serologically negative. A third of the seropositive milkers had a history of clinical leptospirosis. Other factors which significantly correlated with leptospiral titres included the time spent in the dairy shed during milking, the wearing of shorts, the keeping of pigs for sale, and the number of years the individual had been working on a dairy farm. The type of milking shed and the size of the herd were interrelated and both showed strong trends towards a correlation with serological prevalence. 相似文献

Understanding how organisms respond to landscape heterogeneity is foundational to landscape ecology. We characterized seasonal
scales of movement of white-tailed deer (Odocoileus viginianus) in an agricultural–forest matrix using first-passage time analysis (FPT) for 62 GPS-collared individuals. We investigated
whether those scales were driven by demographic or landscape features. We found FPT for each individual across all seasons
was typically dominated by a peak in variance of FPT/area at scales (radii) from 425 to 1,675 m. These peaks occurred at scales
consistent with seasonal space use. We observed additional lower magnitude peaks at larger scales (3,000–6,000 m) and small
scales (25–150 m). Peaks at larger scales were associated with seasonal migrations and dispersal events. Small scale peaks
may represent resting or foraging behavior. Female movements were organized at smaller scales than males in the spring/summer
season. Models relating landscape features to movement scales suggest that deer perceive and move within the landscape differently
as the roles of dominant land-cover types shift seasonally. During winter, configuration (interspersion/juxtaposition) of
land-cover types is more important to deer than during spring/summer and fall. During spring/summer and fall, movement behavior

Ganglioneuromas are complex tumors that arise in peripheral ganglia and are composed of well-differentiated neurons, nerve processes, Schwann cells, and enteric glial cells. The term ganglioneuromatosis (GN) denotes a regional or segmental proliferation of ganglioneuromatous tissue. This report describes an 8-year-old mixed breed horse with GN in a 25-cm segment of small colon. Grossly, the lesion consisted of numerous sessile to pedunculated nodules extending from the serosal surface. Histologic examination revealed the nodules to consist of fascicles of spindle-shaped cells consistent with Schwann cells, clusters of neurons, supporting enteric glial cells, and thick bands of perineurial collagen. Most of the nodules coincided with the location of the myenteric plexus and extended through the outer layer of the tunica muscularis to the serosal surface. Neuronal processes were demonstrated within the lesion with electron microscopy. With immunohistochemistry neurons were positive for neuron specific enolase (NSE) and S-100 and the Schwann cells and enteric glial cells were positive for S-100 and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP). The pathogenesis of GN is poorly understood. GN, although rare, should be included in the differential diagnosis of gastrointestinal tumors in the horse. 相似文献
