CASE HISTORY: A 6-year-old, spayed, female, domestic short-haired cat presented with severe erythroderma and scaling skin. She showed disturbed gait and mild behavioural changes. CLINICAL FINDINGS: The cat had a generalised, erythematous, scurfy dermatitis with marked, multifocal crusting and skin thickening. The skin was painful and contracted, which appeared to prevent normal freedom of movement. DIAGNOSIS: The cat was suspected to have a paraneoplastic syndrome. A mediastinal mass was located and histologically confirmed as thymoma. The cat was diagnosed with a thymoma-associated cutaneous paraneoplastic syndrome. CLINICAL RELEVANCE: This is a rare condition with few reports in the literature. The skin changes, both grossly and histologically, were considered to be different from those described in cases of paraneoplastic dermatosis associated with pancreatic neoplasia. The clinical presentation was characteristic and more cases may occur in practice than are recognised. In this case, as in previous reports, the tumour was grossly resectable, which could lead to cure of the clinical condition. 相似文献

Butorphanol has been used clinically to provide analgesia in alpacas, but cardiovascular effects have not been reported. Using a randomized cross‐over design, eight healthy, young adult female alpacas (3 ± 1 SD years) weighing 64 ± 9 SD kg were anesthetized with isoflurane by mask followed by tracheal intubation and maintenance of anesthesia with 1.75% et (isoflurane) in oxygen. Two treatments, butorphanol (0.1 mg kg–1 IV) and control (saline, IV) were assigned to the animals in a randomized manner allowing a minimum of two weeks between treatments. While anesthetized, animals were instrumented for measurement of cardiovascular variables including systolic, diastolic, and mean arterial blood pressure, pulmonary arterial pressure, pulmonary capillary wedge pressure, central venous pressure, cardiac output (CO) and pulmonary temperature (TEMP). CO was measured via thermodilution using 5 mL of iced 5% dextrose and recording the average of three replicate measurements. Cardiac index, systemic vascular resistance (SVR) and pulmonary vascular resistance were also calculated. Arterial and mixed venous blood samples were collected for blood gas analysis [pH, pO2, pCO2, (HCO3?), BE, Hbsat]. Variables were collected at baseline (time 0) and at 5, 10, 15, 30, 45, and 60 minutes following injection. Variables were analyzed by anova for repeated measures with post‐hoc differences between means identified using the Bonferroni comparison (p < 0.05). SVR decreased five minutes after administration of butorphanol (Huynh Feldt corrected p = 0.045) and remained decreased for 60 minutes. TEMP decreased with time in both groups (Huynh Feldt corrected p = 0.000027), but groups were not different between each other. Other cardiovascular and blood gas variables were not different between groups. We conclude that butorphanol (0.1 mg kg–1 IV) had minimal effects on the cardiovascular system of these alpacas, causing a mild decrease in SVR. 相似文献

A computer model of coupled ice sheet-ice shelf behavior was used to evaluate whether observed changes in atmospheric CO(2) concentration could have caused the advance and retreat of Pleistocene ice sheets in the Eurasian Arctic. For CO(2) concentrations below a threshold of approximately 250 parts per million, an extensive marine-based ice sheet covering Scandinavia, the Barents, Kara, and East Siberian seas, and parts of the Arctic Ocean developed in the model simulations. In the simulations, climatic warming associated with the Holocene rise of atmospheric CO(2) was sufficient to collapse this widespread glaciation and restore present-day ice conditions. 相似文献

This study was performed to test the effect that two separate, daily, constant-light regimes of both 9 and 16 h could have on the main parameters of boar-semen quality analysis, as well as on the motile sperm subpopulations structure and the ability of its conservation at 16 degrees C. Results show that both luminous regimes have slight, specific effects on the main parameters of boar-semen quality analysis, as well as on the motile sperm subpopulations structure. Furthermore, the conservation ability at 16 degrees C of boar semen was not significantly different between both photoperiods. When a temporal study was performed, results showed that semen quality and motility parameter changes were stabilized at nearly constant values from the second month of the study to the last month in both luminous regimes, indicating a rapid light-related effect on testicular function. Our results indicate that light regimes oscillating from 9 h daily to 16 h daily are of little importance in the control of boar-semen quality in a farming environment. 相似文献

Oestrous suppression by intrauterine devices (IUDs) is caused by prolongation of luteal function, but the biological mechanism is unknown. The aim of the study was to investigate mechanisms which could explain the action of IUDs. Thirty mares were age‐matched and either inseminated (AI, n = 15) or fitted with an IUD (IUD, n = 15) and subsequently divided into four groups: AI‐P, pregnant (n = 8); AI‐N, non‐pregnant (n = 7); IUD‐P, prolonged luteal phase (n = 7); and IUD‐N, normal luteal phase (n = 8). The median ages were 5.5 and 7 years in AI‐P and IUD‐P groups and 14 and 11 years in AI‐N and IUD‐N groups, respectively. On Day 15 after ovulation, an endometrial biopsy was obtained to study histomorphological and immunohistochemical expression patterns of uterine proteins (uteroferrin, UF; uterocalin, UC; uteroglobin, UG), oestrogen and progesterone receptors (ER, PR), proliferation marker Ki‐67 and content of inflammatory cells. Expression of UF was higher in IUD mares; the difference between pregnant and IUD‐P mares was significant. Mares exhibiting a prolonged luteal phase (AI‐P, IUD‐P) showed only mild angiosclerosis and lower expression of both ER and PR than mares with a normal luteal phase (AI‐N, IUD‐N). No significant differences were detected in the numbers of inflammatory cells, with the exception of macrophages, which were more numerous in AI‐P than AI‐N mares. Although inflammatory cells were not detected in IUD mares, increased UF levels may indicate chronic inflammation. Young age and normality of the endometrial blood vessels may improve the efficacy of IUDs. 相似文献

The ability of rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (RBT), to produce a localized mucosal immune response was investigated following intraperitoneal (i.p.) or peranal (p.a.) immunization with a protein-hapten carrier, fluorescein isothiocyanate conjugated to keyhole limpet haemocyanin (FITC/KLH). Antibody levels in serum, mucus, tissue culture supernatant from blood and spleen leucocytes, and excised skin, intestine and gill tissues were determined by ELISA. Significantly, elevated antigen-specific antibodies were elicited in both serum and mucus of fish immunized i.p. Mucosal antibody responses, in general, paralleled serum responses over time. Leucocytes isolated from spleen and blood of i.p. immunized fish at week 10 produced significantly elevated antibody levels against FITC when cultured in vitro. Excised skin, intestine and gill tissues from these fish also exhibited significantly elevated antibody responses indicating localized production in the mucosa from tissue-specific B cells. A localized mucosal immune response was elicited only after i.p. and not p.a. immunization, suggesting that systemically stimulated B cells migrate to mucosal tissues where they produce antibodies locally. 相似文献

【目的】通过测定不同施肥制度下的微生物数量和氨氧化细菌群落结构特点,认识长期施肥对石灰性紫色水稻土培肥和肥力演化的重要作用。【方法】利用稀释平板法以及最大或然法(MPN法)和变性梯度凝胶电泳法(DGGE)分别研究农家肥(M),氮肥+农家肥(NM),氮磷肥+农家肥(NPM),氮磷钾肥+农家肥(NPKM),无肥(CK),氮肥(N),氮磷肥(NP)和氮磷钾肥(NPK)等不同施肥制度对微生物数量和氨氧化细菌群落结构的影响。【结果】与对照无肥处理相比,施肥能增加微生物数量并改变氨氧化细菌的群落结构。无机肥配施农家肥的土壤微生物数量及氨氧化细菌的群落结构丰富度均比施用无机肥的处理高。主成分分析将8种施肥处理划分成两个主成分。植稻土壤,主成分1为NP、NM、NPM和NPKM,主成分2为CK、N、M和NPK;植麦土壤,主成分1为M、NM、NPM和NPKM,主成分2为CK、N、NP和NPK。主成分1的氨氧化细菌群落结构丰富度高于主成分2。水稻收获后土壤的氨氧化细菌群落结构丰富度高于小麦收获后土壤。【结论】施肥会改变石灰性紫色水稻土微生物的数量以及氨氧化细菌的种群结构,无机肥(N、NP、NPK)配施农家肥更有利于提高微生物的数量以及氨氧化细菌的种群结构进而维持土壤生物肥力状况。 相似文献

This study investigated the effects of different concentrations of FSH (10, 50, 100 and 200 ng/ml) in supplemented MEM+ on the development of equine pre‐antral follicles that were cultured in vitro for 2 or 6 days. The ovaries (n = 5) from mares in seasonal anoestrus were collected from a local abattoir. Ten ovarian tissue fragments of approximately 3 × 3 × 1 mm were obtained from each animal. The fragments were cultured in situ for 2 days (D2) or 6 days (D6) in MEM+ or MEM+ supplemented with FSH at four different concentrations, establishing the following 11 groups: control (D0); MEM + (D2); MEM + (D6); MEM + 10 ng/ml of FSH (D2); MEM + 10 ng/ml of FSH (D6); MEM + 50 ng/ml of FSH (D2); MEM + 50 ng/ml of FSH (D6); MEM + 100 ng/ml of FSH (D2); MEM + 100 ng/ml of FSH (D6); MEM + 200 ng/ml of FSH (D2); and MEM + 200 ng/ml of FSH (D6). Follicles were observed in only 9.65% (388 of 4,018) of the histological sections. Of the 861 follicles evaluated, 488 were in the primordial stage, and 373 were in various developmental stages; 59.7% were morphologically normal. Regarding the integrity of the pre‐antral follicles, the groups with 100 ng/ml FSH of 2‐days culture as well as 50, 100 and 200 ng/ml FSH of 6‐days culture provided the best results. In conclusion, the in vitro culture of abattoir‐derived equine ovarian fragments presented better morphological integrity when supplemented with FSH for 6 days, in comparison with the MEM culture group. However, no clear effects were observed with FSH regarding the promotion of activation from a primordial to a developing follicle. 相似文献
