The echogenicity of the renal cortex is an important parameter to consider in dogs that are suspected to have renal dysfunction. Focal increases in echogenicity have been attributed to neoplasia, infection, calcification, fibrosis, gas, and infarction. Anisotropic backscatter has been described as a source of focally increased renal cortical echogenicity in several species. The source of anisotropy appears to be the medullary rays, which are oriented perpendicular to the renal capsule. Spatial compound imaging (SCI) is an ultrasound setting that uses beam steering to acquire and average several overlapping scans of an object from different view angles, creating a compound image that is updated in real time. The impact of insonation angle and SCI on renal cortical echogenicity was evaluated ex vivo in eight kidneys from four dogs. Significant angle‐dependent differences in cortical echogenicity were detected with both microconvex and linear transducers (P < 0.0001). Furthermore, the angle‐dependent echogenicity differences persisted when SCI mode was used. Our finding that echogenicity was increased using a perpendicular insonation angle (90°) relative to the tubules, compared to a parallel insonation angle (0°) should assist in the interpretation of ultrasonographic images of the dog kidney.  相似文献

The goal of this study was to identify a myxosporidian parasite infecting the central nervous system of yellow perch Perca flavescens (Mitchell, 1814) observed while investigating a fish kill in Saskatchewan, Canada. Fish were collected from seven different lakes, from two distinct watersheds. Sixty-four per cent (54/86) of yellow perch contained myxozoan pseudocysts located throughout the spinal cord and brain. Myxospores measured 16.5 μm (range 16.2–16.8) long and 8.2 μm (range 7.9–8.4) wide and contained two pyriform, mildly dissymmetrical, polar capsules measuring 7.7 μm (range 7.3–8.1) long and 2.7 μm (range 2.4–3.0) wide. The polar capsules each contained a single polar filament, with 7–9 turns per polar filament coil. Sequencing of the 18S SSU rDNA gene demonstrated >99% similarity to Myxobolus neurophilus. In 60% of infected fish, there was a mild to moderate, non-suppurative myelitis or encephalitis, or both, associated with myxospores. Axonal degeneration was present in rare cases. These findings extend the geographical distribution of M. neurophilus and suggest it may be widespread in yellow perch populations in Saskatchewan.  相似文献

Biochars, derived from rambutan (Nepheliumlappaceum) peel through slow pyrolysis, were characterised and investigated as potential adsorbent for the removal of copper ion, Cu(II) from aqueous solution. Characteristics of five biochars of rambutan peel with different pyrolytic temperatures ranging from 300 to 700 °C (B300, B400, B500, B600, B700) were studied, and adsorption abilities of respective biochars were evaluated. Adsorption experiments were carried out by varying adsorbent dosage (0.2, 0.4, 0.8, 1.0, 2.0, and 4.0 g/L) and initial copper ion, Cu(II) concentrations (50 and 100 mg/L) to determine the optimum pyrolytic temperature of biochar with high adsorption affinity. The adsorption kinetics were best described by the pseudo-second order model for all the tested biochars, while the adsorption equilibrium best fitted by Langmuir isotherm. The overall results showed that biochar derived at 600 °C can be used as an effective adsorbent for removal of Cu(II) from aqueous solutions. Furthermore, feedforward artificial neural network (FFBP) modelling was performed to compare the simulated results with experimental output data of Thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS) analysis which were trained using Levenberg-Marquardt (LM) backpropagation algorithm. The FFBP structure for pyrolysis process comprised of TGA temperature as input and biomass final weight as output. The adsorption modelling was simulated using adsorption time, temperature, biochar dosage and initial Cu(II) concentration as input data, while final Cu(II) concentration was used as output data to the network. Finally, modelling structure of 1-9-1 and 4-8-1 gave best performance with regression, R 2 value of 0.9999 and 0.9547 for TGA and AAS analysis, respectively.  相似文献

Published information regarding canine vertebral column mast cell tumors (MCTs) is limited. The objectives of this study were to report clinical and advanced imaging findings for a group of dogs with confirmed spinal MCT. Inclusion criteria for this retrospective case series were dogs with spinal magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) or computed tomography (CT) scans and a histological diagnosis of spinal MCT. Clinical, imaging, treatment, and outcome data were recorded. Four dogs met inclusion criteria. One dog had primary spinal MCT and three dogs had metastatic spinal MCT. All four dogs presented for paraspinal hyperesthesia and subacute progressive or acute myelopathy. All CT and MRI lesions were extradural. Two cases exhibited distinct masses in the epidural space. In one case, an epidural tumor invaded from the paravertebral musculature. One case exhibited polyostotic lesions indistinguishable from multiple myeloma by MRI. One dog with a primary epidural low‐grade MCT remains clinically normal 4 years postoperatively, following adjunctive lomustine. An epidural high‐grade MCT, metastatic from a cutaneous tumor, recurred within 2 months of surgery despite adjunctive vinblastine. Two high‐grade cases with concurrent visceral involvement were euthanized immediately after imaging. In dogs, MCT should be considered as a differential diagnosis for a progressive painful myelopathy and CT or MRI evidence of an extradural spinal lesion (epidural, paravertebral, or polyostotic). While more often associated with cutaneous or disseminated disease, MCT may also occur as a primary tumor of the epidural space in dogs.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the relationships between heart score (mean QRS interval), heart weight and body weight in Greyhound dogs. Highly significant correlations between these measurements have been observed and distinct sex differences have been demonstrated. The results of multiple regression analysis indicated that 66% of the variation in heart weight was due to variation in heart score and body weight. From the regression analysis, a formula for heart weight prediction with a standard deviation of 27.1 g was derived. The implications of these findings have been discussed briefly and emphasis has been placed on the need for good electrocardiographic technique, if the procedures outlined are to be used successfully. The positive correlation between heart score and heart size demonstrated here in Greyhounds is in accord with similar correlations reported previously in racehorses and human athletes.  相似文献
