The chitin biosynthesis inhibitor diflubenzuron and its analog BAY SIR 8514 are equitoxic for eggs ofSpodoptera littoralis. BAY SIR 8514 residues on alfalfa fed toSpodoptera larvae were more toxic than diflubenzuron residues, whereas BAY SIR 8514 topically applied to these larvae was consistently twice as toxic as diflubenzuron, according to different criteria.  相似文献

Successful crossing experiments between tetraploid individuals of Achillea ceretanica, A. collina, A. distans ssp. styriaca, and A. pratensis (A. millefolium complex, Compositae) were carried out. Sesquiterpenes of 1013 hybrid plants obtained from 13 crossings were studied by qualitative thin layer chromatography (TLC). F1-progenies from parent plants with guaianolides (GU-type), as well as the offspring of a back-cross, uniformly contained proazulenes. Diallel crosses between plants exclusively with eudesmanolides (EU-type) resulted in a 7:1 segregation-ratio of EU- and GU-plants. Two reciprocal crossing experiments between EU- and GU-parents resulted in 28.6% and 89.3% EU-individuals, as well as GU-offspring. According to these findings, the qualitative marker ‘proazulene’ (GU-type) is thought to be a recessive character of the tetraploid Achillea species studied.  相似文献

The correlation between pedigree and genomic-based inbreeding coefficients is usually discussed in the literature. However, some of these correlations could be spurious. Using partial correlations and information theory, it is possible to distinguish a significant association between two variables which is independent from associations with a third variable. The objective of this study is to implement partial correlations and information theory to assess the relationship between different inbreeding coefficients using a selected population of rabbits. Data from pedigree and genomic information from a 200K SNP chip were available. After applying filtering criteria, the data set comprised 437 animals genotyped for 114,604 autosomal SNP. Fifteen pedigree- and genome-based inbreeding coefficients were estimated and used to build a network. Recent inbreeding coefficient based on runs of homozygosity had 9 edges linking it with different inbreeding coefficients. Partial correlations and information theory approach allowed to infer meaningful associations between inbreeding coefficients and highlighted the importance of the recent inbreeding based on runs of homozygosity, but a good proxy of it could be those pedigree-based definitions reflecting recent inbreeding.  相似文献

In this study we evaluated the thermo-mechanical properties of maize starch pastes (80% wt/wt) under the effect of exogenous lysophosphatidylcholine (LPC) using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), dynamic mechanical spectrometry (DMS), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Particular attention was paid to the development of the amylose-LPC inclusion complex. Results from SEM and DSC showed that with no exogenous LPC, granular maize starch developed the amylose network structure for starch gelling at 80–95 °C. In comparison, at 1.86 and 3.35% of LPC, heating up to 130 °C was needed to develop the three-dimensional network required for starch gelling. Results showed that at these LPC concentrations LPC interacted mainly with amylose within the starch granule. At concentrations ≥8.26% the LPC interacted with amylose both inside the granule and on the granule's surface. At such LPC concentrations heating to 130 °C did not fully develop the starch network structure for gelling. These results suggested that a higher thermal stability was achieved by starch granules because of LPC inclusion complex formation. DSC or DMS did not detect the development of this complex, probably because its formation took place below the onset of gelatinization under conditions of limited molecular mobility. Subsequently, a lower level of organization (i.e. complex in form I) was achieved than in the complex developed at high temperature and water excess (i.e. complex in form II). On the other hand, the changes in the starch granule structure observed by SEM as a function of the time–temperature variable were well described by the phase shift angle (δ) rheograms for starch pastes with and without addition of LPC.  相似文献

Global cooling and the development of continental-scale Antarctic glaciation occurred in the late middle Eocene to early Oligocene (~38 to 28 million years ago), accompanied by deep-ocean reorganization attributed to gradual Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC) development. Our benthic foraminiferal stable isotope comparisons show that a large δ(13)C offset developed between mid-depth (~600 meters) and deep (>1000 meters) western North Atlantic waters in the early Oligocene, indicating the development of intermediate-depth δ(13)C and O(2) minima closely linked in the modern ocean to northward incursion of Antarctic Intermediate Water. At the same time, the ocean's coldest waters became restricted to south of the ACC, probably forming a bottom-ocean layer, as in the modern ocean. We show that the modern four-layer ocean structure (surface, intermediate, deep, and bottom waters) developed during the early Oligocene as a consequence of the ACC.  相似文献

Medetomidine and its active d-enantiomer, dexmedetomidine, are highly selective alpha-2 agonists with potent sedative, anaesthetic-sparing and analgesic effects. These properties make them an ideal pre-anaesthetic medication for noxious surgical procedures. However, sheep can develop adverse hypoxaemic effects after intravenous alpha-2 agonists. Objective of the present study was to compare intramuscular injection of medetomidine or dexmedetomidine at equipotent doses as preanaesthetic medication prior to isoflurane anaesthesia in sheep. Nineteen healthy, adult, non-pregnant, female sheep of various breeds were used. The study was carried out as a randomised, blind trial. Group A received 15 micrograms/kg bwt dexmedetomidine and group B received 30 micrograms/kg bwt medetomidine intramuscularly (i.m.) 30 minutes prior to induction of anaesthesia. Anaesthesia was induced with ketamine (2.0 mg/kg bwt i.v.) and maintained with isoflurane in 100% oxygen. End expired anaesthetic concentration (FEiso), respiratory frequency (fR), direct arterial blood pressures and heart rates (HR) were measured. Arterial blood samples were taken at intervals. Data were averaged over time (sum of measurements/number of measurements) and tested for differences between groups by independent t-tests, and ANOVA for repeated measures followed by Bonferroni corrected t-tests. There were no differences in demographic data between the groups. Duration of anaesthesia [A: 170 (42) minutes, B: 144 (33) minutes] and duration of surgery [A: 92 (32) minutes, B: 85 (31) minutes] were similar in both groups. Average FEiso concentrations required to maintain a surgical plane of anaesthesia were not significantly different between groups [A: 0.82 (0.14)%; B: 1.00 (0.25)%]. Mean average fR, did not differ between groups [A: 31 (14), B: 37 (15)]. Heart rates were significantly lower in group B over the course of the anaesthesia. Mean arterial blood pressures (MAP) were not significantly different between the groups. The PaO2 was less variable in group A than in group B. Individual minimum values were 19.1 kPa and 7.9 kPa in group A and B, respectively. There were no significant differences in PaCO2 and paH between the groups and over time. In conclusion, intramuscular application of dexmedetomidine at 15 micrograms/kg bwt and medetomidine at 30 micrograms/kg bwt prior to isoflurane anaesthesia induced similar changes in clinically monitored cardiorespiratory parameters. The observed differences (heart rates, PaO2) between dexmedetomidine and medetomidine at the chosen dose relationship can be considered clinically not significant. At the chosen dose rates individual animals responded with a transient drop in blood oxygenation, therefore careful monitoring is required. In addition, in compromised sheep medetomidine and dexmedetomidine should be used carefully.  相似文献

Lysozyme acts as a non‐specific defence substance and is found in the peripheral blood, cutaneous mucus and certain tissues of marine and freshwater fishes. In the present study, we examined the effect of various environmental factors (water temperature, salinity, pH and suspended sediments) on plasma lysozyme activity in the Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus L. When the fish were reared at different water temperatures (18.4, 23, 28 and 33°C), plasma lysozyme activity increased at 28°C after 2 and 4 weeks. A significant decrease in lysozyme activity was found in the fish reared at 33°C for 4 weeks. These results suggest that there is a water temperature range that affects the amount of plasma lysozyme activity that can be detected. Fish cultured at 24 g L?1 of salinity for 2 and 4 weeks and 12 g L?1 for 4 weeks resulted in significantly increased plasma lysozyme activity, suggesting that environmental salinity also affects the amount of plasma lysozyme that can be detected. Lysozyme activity also significantly increased when the fish were held in acidic water at pH 4.0 and in suspended sediments at 2000 mg L?1 for 2 weeks. It was concluded that changes in some aquatic environmental factors affect the non‐specific immune responses of Nile tilapia.  相似文献

ABSTRACT

Response surface methodology was employed to optimize the immobilization yield of acidic proteases from Monterey sardine (Sardinops sagax caeurelea) using partially deacetylated chitin as immobilization support. A rotatable central composite design was applied to evaluate the effects of immobilization conditions such as enzyme loading (X1), immobilization pH (X2), and tripolyphosphate concentration (X3) on the immobilization yield. The analysis of variance revealed that the established model was significant (p < 0.05), and the adjustment of the quadratic model with the experimental data was satisfactory. Under optimal conditions (X1 = 0.05 mg/mL, X2 = 3.16, and X3 = 0.75%), an immobilization yield of 79.1% was achieved; a value that was in accordance with the predicted one.  相似文献
