Serum osmolalities and osmolar gap were determined in 43 normal healthy beagles (control group) and 40 dogs with dirofilarial hemoglobinuria (hemoglobinuria group). In the control group, the measured and calculated serum osmolality levels were in the means of 296 +/- 5 (SD) mOsm/kg and 293 +/- 6 mOsm/kg respectively, showing an osmolar gap less than 10 mOsm/kg. In the hemoglobinuria group, the measured serum osmolality ranged from 272 to 370 mOsm/kg. A considerable number of dogs had normal serum osmolalities in spite of severe intravascular hemolysis, suggesting that the changes in serum osmolality would not be the direct cause of intravascular hemolysis. The measured serum osmolality (331 +/- 28 mOsm/kg) was significantly higher in 11 dogs which died after a surgical removal heartworms than in 29 dogs which recovered after the removal (302 +/- 17 mOsm/kg). The calculated serum osmolality level was 296 +/- 16 mOsm/kg in 24 recovered cases, and 304 +/- 22 mOsm/kg in 10 fatal cases. The osmolar gap stayed in the normal ranges of 5.4 +/- 5.9 mOsm/kg in recovered cases, but it attained a higher level of 22.7 +/- 8.9 mOsm/kg in fatal cases, suggesting poor prognosis in cases with large osmolar gaps. There were significant positive correlations between the measured serum osmolality and osmolar gap, serum sodium, potassium, BUN, GOT, GPT, creatinine, bilirubin and plasma hemoglobin values, as well as between the osmolar gap and serum potassium, BUN, GOT, GPT, creatinine and bilirubin values. The plasma hemoglobin concentration fell markedly without significant change in serum osmolality 20 hr after the heartworm removal.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   The effects of dietary taurine levels and lipid contents on the conjugated bile acid composition and growth performance of juvenile Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus were investigated. Six types of diet (three different levels of taurine at two different levels of lipid) were fed to juveniles (average body weight, 0.04 g). Fishmeal that was washed with 70% ethanol to remove taurine was used as the sole protein source. Feeding experiments were carried out at 20°C for 6 weeks. At the end of the experiments, fish were weighed and analyzed for free amino acids in the body and the composition of the conjugated bile acids. The body weight and percent weight gain of the juveniles were improved by the dietary taurine supplementation. The taurine contents of the whole body and tissues increased with the increase of the dietary taurine contents. The conjugated bile acids in the gall bladder consisted of taurocholic acid and taurochenodeoxycholic acid, which increased with the increase of the dietary taurine level. Taurocholic acid accounted for more than 95% of the total conjugated bile acids. This indicates that taurine is the sole amino acid to conjugate bile acid in Japanese flounder.  相似文献

We investigated for dynamics of Campylobacter clones on 2 different managerial broiler farms. Campylobacter isolates were differentiated by resistance typing and molecular typing methods. On farm I, the same C. jejuni clones resistant to fluoroquinolone and oxytetracycline were isolated after one and half years again and another susceptible clone was invaded. The susceptible clone was isolated again after half year. Broiler flocks on the farm may be repeatedly infected with a few C. jejuni clones. On farm II, new clones including antimicrobial resistant one, were often invaded. The change of predominant C. jejuni clone in each flock on both the farms was observed, in the absence of antimicrobial selective pressure.  相似文献

Wheat flours were stored at room temperature (15–25°C), 40, 60, 80, and 100°C for various times. The baking performance of these flours was then evaluated in terms of the springiness of pancakes (recovery from crushing). Baking performance improved with increased storage time at each temperature. Brabender Amylograph tests of the flours indicated that the onset temperature in viscosity decreased with increased storage time at each temperature. When the flours were fractionated by acetic acid (pH 3.5) with mortar and pestle, recoveries of the water-solubles and gluten fractions were unchanged, but recoveries of prime starch and tailings fractions changed remarkably with increased storage time. On the other hand, those changes were not observed when flours were fractionated with a Waring blender. The binding of prime starch to tailings was correlated significantly with baking performance.  相似文献

Improvement of pulmonary arterial lesions after heartworm removal using flexible alligator forceps was investigated by measuring pulmonary arterial pressure (PAP), and by angiographic and histopathological examinations in 11 dogs. PAP obtained immediately after worm removal corresponded well with angiographic abnormalities. In 2 dogs, high PAP immediately after worm removal fell gradually by 12 weeks, and obstructions on angiogram were resolved at 4 to 12 weeks. In 4 dogs, slightly high PAP fell to the normal range at 4 weeks, and angiographic abnormalities were considerably reduced at 4 to 12 weeks. In 5 dogs, PAP returned to normal range immediately after worm removal, and angiographic changes almost disappeared at 4 to 8 weeks. On biopsy immediately after worm removal, samples of the main pulmonary arteries showed severe intimal proliferations with villous or papillary protrusion into the lumen. Autopsy at 12 to 20 weeks indicated that the intimal protrusions were remarkably reduced as compared with the biopsy samples in all cases. However, villous intimal protrusions were seen in the caudal lobar arteries in cases with remaining alive worms. New vessels seemed to develop into thromboemboli with time. From these findings, it is clear that the pulmonary arterial lesions improved after heartworm removal, and the clinical signs disappeared following the improvement in hemodynamics. Aspirin therapy (5 mg/kg/day) for 4 weeks after worm removal in 5 dogs did not improve the intimal lesions as compared to 3 control dogs.  相似文献

The pharmacokinetics of primaquine was studied in calves of 180–300 kg live weight. Primaquine was injected at 0.29 mg/kg (0.51 mg/kg as primaquine diphosphate) intravenously (IV) or subcutaneously (SC) and the plasma concentrations of primaquine and its metabolite carboxyprimaquine were determined by high-performance liquid chromatography. The extrapolated concentration of primaquine at zero time after IV administration was 0.50±0.48 µg/ml (mean ±SD) which decreased with an elimination half-life of 0.16±0.07 h. Primaquine was rapidly converted to carboxyprimaquine after either route of administration. The peak concentration of carboxyprimaquine was 0.50±0.08 µg/ml at 1.67±0.15 h after IV administration. The corresponding value was 0.47±0.07 µg/ml at 5.05±1.20 h after SC administration. The elimination half-lives of carboxyprimaquine after IV and SC administration were 15.06±0.99 and 12.26±3.06 h, respectively. The areas under the concentration-time curve for carboxyprimaquine were similar following either IV or SC administration of primaquine; the values were 11.85±2.62 µg.h/ml after the former and 10.95±2.65 µg.h/ml after the latter. ABSTRACT:   The modori phenomenon is defined as heat-induced myofibrillar degradation caused by endogenous serine protease(s) of fish muscle during Kamaboko fish meat gel production. This study was undertaken to analyze myofibrillar proteolysis of white croaker Argyrosomus argentatus muscle, which is an ingredient of high quality Kamaboko, by myofibril-bound serine protease (MBSP) under conditions corresponding to the modori phenomenon. White croaker MBSP was stable between pH 2–11 and below 65°C, and about 60% of its initial activity remained after incubation for 2 h under the conditions at 65°C and pH 7.5. About 60% of the enzyme activity was suppressed by 0.5 M NaCl. White croaker MBSP degraded various myofibrillar proteins between 40 and 70°C and pH 6.0–9.0, and preferentially degraded myosin heavy chain rather than other myofibrillar proteins. The enzyme degraded the myosin heavy chain most strongly at 55°C and pH 7.0, and a major part of the bands of myosin heavy chain and its degradation products disappeared for a period of 2 h. These degradation characteristics are very similar to those observed during the modori phenomenon, indicating that MBSP could be a modori-inducing protease involved in the modori phenomenon of white croaker Kamaboko production.  相似文献
