White kaolin has frequently been observed to be associated with ferralsol‐podzol soil systems in Amazonia. In order to evaluate whether such systems favour kaolin genesis and to identify the associated genetic processes, we studied soil organization, mineralogy and groundwater properties of a ferralsol‐podzol soil system with white kaolin located in the High Rio Negro Basin, Brazil. We found that the kaolin was situated near the ferralsol‐podzol transition and that its thickness was related to the depth of landscape incision by regressive erosion. The kaolin was characterized by silicon, iron and titanium (Ti) leaching and aluminium (Al) absolute accumulation. The groundwater that percolates from the podzol to the kaolin can enhance kaolinite precipitation, by supplying Al originating from kaolinite dissolution in the overlying Bh, and kaolin bleaching, by low pH and Eh of the percolating waters favouring iron reduction. The system dynamics imply that the quartz dissolution rate in the kaolin is of at least the same order of magnitude as the kaolinite dissolution rate in the overlying Bh. Within the whole system, Ti appeared to be very mobile.  相似文献

We evaluated the effects of elevated carbon dioxide concentration ([CO2]) and two nutrient regimes on stem growth rate, annual ring structure and temporal variations in photosynthetic characteristics of seedlings of Japanese larch (Larix kaempferi (Lamb.) Carr.). Seedlings were grown in phytotron chambers in an ambient (360 ppm) or an elevated (720 ppm) [CO2] in two nutrient regimes for one growing season. Elevated [CO2] reduced stem height and increased stem basal diameter compared with ambient [CO2]. The effect of elevated [CO2] on growth tended to be greater at high-nutrient supply than at low-nutrient supply. Elevated [CO2] had no significant effect on ring width or the number of tracheids per radial file. There was no obvious difference in cell wall thickness or the relative area of the cell wall between seedlings grown in ambient or elevated [CO2]. Although growth in elevated [CO2] resulted in a slight increase in cell diameter, the increase had a relatively minor effect on the relative area of the cell wall. Net assimilation rate increased in response to elevated [CO2]; however, the increase in whole-crown photosynthetic rate (Total Agrowth) in seedlings in the elevated [CO2] treatment was minimal because of the smaller specific needle area and acclimation of the photosynthetic characteristics of the needles to the growth [CO2]. In conclusion, we observed no obvious enhancement in the capacity for carbon fixation in Japanese larch seedlings grown in the presence of elevated [CO2] that might be attributable to changes in stem growth. However, elevated [CO2] caused changes in the temporal pattern of stem growth and in some anatomical features of the tracheids.  相似文献

To examine the effects of different solar irradiances on leaf characteristics at the leaf primordium and expansion stages, we shaded parts of branches in the upper canopies of two adult beech trees, Fagus crenata Blume and Fagus japonica Maxim., for 4 years. The treatments during the leaf primordium and leaf expansion stages, respectively, were: (1) high light and high light (H, control), (2) high light and low light (HL), (3) low light and low light (LL), and (4) low light and high light (LH). Both number of cell layers in palisade tissue and individual leaf area were affected by the previous-year irradiance, whereas cell length of palisade tissue was larger in LH leaves than in LL leaves, suggesting determination by current-year irradiance. Lamina chlorophyll/nitrogen ratio was higher in HL and LL leaves than in LH leaves, suggesting determination by current-year irradiance. Diurnal minimum values of leaf water potential measured under sunlit conditions were lower in H and LH leaves than in HL and LL leaves. Effective osmotic adjustment was found in H and LH leaves, suggesting that leaf water relations were affected by current-year irradiance. Net photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance measured under sunlight conditions were higher in H and LH leaves than in HL and LL leaves. Thus, effects of current-year irradiance had a greater effect on leaf-area-based daily carbon gain than previous-year irradiance.  相似文献

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of feeding Bacillus subtilis on rumen fermentation, blood metabolites, nutrient digestibility, and energy and nitrogen balances in non-lactating crossbred (Holstein-Friesian × Bos indicus) cows. Four cows were assigned to the control and B. subtilis diets in a crossover design, and respiratory and metabolic experiments were conducted. For the B. subtilis diet, B. subtilis DSM15544 spores were added at the rate of 1.0 × 1010 CFU/head/day to the control diet. At 4 hr after feeding, cows fed the B. subtilis diet had increased levels of i-butyric acid in the rumen fluid and tended to have lower concentrations of plasma non-esterified fatty acids when compared with cows fed the control diet. This suggests that feeding B. subtilis could improve energy efficiency. However, there was no effect on energy retention in this study. Although there were no effects on nutrient digestibility, nitrogen balance, or methane production, heat production was significantly higher in cows fed the B. subtilis diet than in those fed the control diet.  相似文献

ABSTRACT: The surface-migratory myctophid fish, Myctophum asperum , of the western North Pacific was found to have daily growth increments of its sagittal otolith, which also exhibited lunar periodicity in the deposition of increments. Daily deposition of the otolith increments was verified because the width of the marginal increment increased during the night and early morning between 20.00 h and 08.00 h and its growth stopped during the day. An autocorrelation analysis of the increment widths, which were measured consecutively in 11 specimens covering 33 synodic months, also showed a lunar periodicity in increment deposition. The mean increment widths during five days around the time of a full moon were significantly narrower than those around a new moon in 18 of the 33 full moon cases ( P < 0.01: Student's t -test) and, on average, tended to be narrow in 29 cases. The cause of this tendency is thought to be slower growth caused by staying in deeper and colder habitat due to the suppression of diel vertical migration and/or lower food availability resulting from the possible dispersion of zooplankton during the full moon period.  相似文献

1. Oestrogen target cells in the medullary bone of laying hens were examined using a histochemical method with fluorescein isothiocyanate labelled oestradiol. 2. Specific fluorescence was found to occur strongly in osteoblasts and weakly in osteoclasts on the medullary bone surface. 3.
