Two cats showing chronic vomiting, diarrhea and weight loss were found to have leukocytosis with marked eosinophilia. Both cats were diagnosed with hypereosinophilic syndrome by the findings of increased eosinophils and their precursors in the bone marrow, eosinophilic infiltration into multiple organs, and exclusion of other causes for eosinophilia. Although cytoreductive chemotherapy with hydroxycarbamide and prednisolone was performed, these two cats died 48 days and 91 days after the initial presentation. 相似文献

High-mobility group box 1 (HMGB1), a nonhistone chromosomal protein, has recently been suggested as a late mediator of the inflammatory cascade. Blood HMGB1 levels are increased in a number of human diseases, and HMGB1 has been suggested to be a useful marker for disease severity and prognosis. The objective of this study was to assess the clinical usefulness of HMGB1 in dogs. Plasma HMGB1 levels, as well as C-reactive protein (CRP), a typical canine inflammatory marker, were measured in dogs with various diseases, especially systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), and dogs that had undergone surgery. HMGB1 gradually increased and attained a maximum level 72 hr after surgery, whereas CRP increased rapidly, peaking at 24 hr. Although both HMGB1 and CRP levels were significantly increased in dogs with various diseases compared with the control dogs, no correlation was found between the HMGB1 and CRP values. HMGB1 levels in the SIRS group were significantly elevated compared with those in the non-SIRS group. However, the increase in HMGB1 levels above the reference range was not indicative of SIRS. Instead, the presence of increased HMGB1 and CRP levels above the reference ranges significantly affects the poor outcome of SIRS. The present study indicates that HMGB1 is a novel canine inflammatory marker and is distinct from CRP. However, the additional clinical value of HMGB1 measurement remains unclear, and further studies are warranted. 相似文献

Analysis of published data on occurrence of bacteria and fungi in soil revealed an inverse linear relationship between the logarithm of propagule size and the logarithm of population density among these microorganisms. The regression equation Y= 8.841? 0.540.X (in which Y is log numbers of propagules kg?1 of soil and X is log volumes per 100 propagules), describing the relationship between propagule size and maximum population density of microorganisms in soil, afforded the predicted values of the population density very close to the reported values. Emulsion resins are widely used in wood-based materials for indoor furnishings. Previous studies have demonstrated that the
ability of a material to retard flame arises from the interactions between four major components: i.e., binder resin (BR);
carbonizing substrate (CS); foam-producing substance (FPS); and dehydrating agent (DA). Fire performance as influenced by
wetting and drying cycle (WDC) treatment has not yet been reported. This study aimed to compare the fire performance of materials
coated with EVAc (ethylene vinyl acetate copolymer) and PVAc (polyvinyl acetate copolymer) emulsion resins of differing BR/CS
ratios, subjected to investigation by cone calorimeter. Intumescent formulation significantly enhanced the fire retardancy
of painted plywood by exhibiting lower peak heat release rates (PHRR) and longer time to reach peak release rates. Additionally,
lower BR content in the fire retardant systems further enhanced flame retardancy. The fire retardancy decreases with increasing
the WDC treatment, caused by the weight loss of the coating materials. Infrared (FT-IR) analysis demonstrated that lower BR
content extends the survival duration of the phosphorcarbonaceous structure of chars. The findings in this study enhance the

The effect of schisandrin B (Sch B) on long-term ethanol-induced oxidative stress in various rat tissues was investigated. Long-term ethanol treatment increased reactive oxygen metabolites (ROM) level in plasma. The ethanol-induced oxidative stress was assessed by mitochondrial glutathione and α-tocopherol levels, antioxidant enzyme activities, malondialdehyde (mtMDA) production and heat shock protein (Hsp) 25/70 levels. Liver was most susceptible to oxidative stress with a significant increase in mtMDA production. Long-term Sch B treatment enhanced mitochondrial antioxidant status in a tissue non-specific manner. Sch B co-treatment ameliorated the alterations in plasma ROM levels, mtMDA production and Hsp 25/70 expression in rat tissues. 相似文献

We determined a suitable amount of fertilizer for konara oak(Quercus serrata) and Japanese zelkova(Zelkova serrata) planted in a harvested pitch pine(Pinus rigida) plantation. Two-year-old bare-root seedlings of konara oak and one-year-old containerized seedlings of Japanese zelkova were planted in April 2011. Three plots were established for each tree species to evaluate each of three fertilization applications. Solid compound fertilizer(N:P:K = 3:4:1) was applied yearly in three amounts(control: no fertilization, F1: 180 kg ha-1, and F2:360 kg ha-1), every May from 2011 to 2013. We measured the root collar diameter and height, and analyzed the compartmental N and P concentrations. Compartmental N concentrations of konara oak and Japanese zelkova were not consistent based on amount of fertilization. However,the compartmental P concentrations of konara oak and Japanese zelkova were significantly different in the order of F2, F1, and control. Although the differences in growth of konara oak appeared after 3 years of fertilization,Japanese zelkova showed differences after only 2 years of fertilization owing to differences in seedling type. Growth of konara oak was affected by fertilization at F1 and F2 in2013. However, growth of Japanese zelkova was affected only at F2. Nutrient demand of Japanese zelkova appeard to be higher than that of konara oak, at least during the early growing period. Results from this study could be practically used in harvested pitch pine plantations to determine appropriate fertilization regimes. 相似文献

A new type of sampler for dry deposition in a forest canopy was designed and tested to confirm its usefulness. The new sampler
is made of Teflon chips packed in a nylon net, and tied on a rod like a branch in the canopy. The validity and characteristics
of the new sampler were checked by comparing it with the conventional bucket sampler and the foliar extraction method using
hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) trees. The comparison between the deposited amounts on the dummy branch and those on the bucket indicates that the dummy
could trap gaseous matter more effective than the bucket. From a comparison with the foliar extracting method, it is concluded
that the trapping of particulate matter by the new dummy branch is comparable to that of natural needle leaves. However, its
efficiency for gaseous matter is relatively small. This disadvantage should be improved by applying other materials to the
dummy. Moreover, it is found that the uptake of gas especially SO2 through the stomata is an important point in the discussion about dry deposition. To evaluate the amounts of dry deposition
in the forest canopy more precisely, combination with the additional method should be useful.

The effects of schisandrin B (Sch B) and its analogs on solar irradiation-induced oxidative injury were examined in BJ human fibroblasts. Sch B and schisandrin C (Sch C) increased cellular reduced glutathione (GSH) level and protected against solar irradiation-induced oxidative injury. The photoprotection was paralleled by decreases in the elastases-type protease activity and matrix-metalloproteinases-1 expression in solar-irradiated fibroblasts. The cytochrome P-450-mediated metabolism of Sch B or Sch C caused ROS production. The results suggest that by virtue of its pro-oxidant action and the subsequent glutathione antioxidant response, Sch B or Sch C may offer the prospect of preventing skin photo-aging. 相似文献
