The response of N-fertilisation, irrigation, acid irrigation, and liming on concentrations of elements in needles, fluxes of elements in litter, volume increment, and crown density on a full stocked, healthy, and vigorously growing mature spruce stand was investigated. The plots of the Höglwald site in Southern Bavaria exhibited a high volume increment with regularly more than 20 m3 ha−1 per year, despite the high age of the stand (77 years at the beginning of the experiment in 1984). Neither a distinct growth reduction of the stand due to acid irrigation, or N oversaturation, nor an enhancement of growth due to N-fertilisation, irrigation, or liming of the stand could be detected. For the years 1984 and 1985 a marked decrease in crown density was detected for all plots. This was followed by a stagnation for 2 years. Afterwards the crown density improved until the end of the investigation for all plots. Neither acid irrigation, nor liming altered the amount of litter fall. Ca fluxes in litter, and concentrations in needles were enhanced on most of the limed plots five to six years after liming. Acid irrigation reduced Ca content in litter, but other elements were not or only slightly influenced. The nutritional status of all plots as shown by the concentrations of elements in needles indicates that for most of the years a sufficient to high supply of N, P, Ca, and Mg for all investigated plots, whereas K concentration in needles exhibited wide year to year variations. Most of the elemental concentrations in needles and fluxes in litter were not influenced by any of the treatments. The penetration of propoxur and phoxim from eggshell into whole egg was investigated in vitro by spraying eggs directly and in vivo after application of the compounds in henhouses. Although mean concentrations of the compounds on eggshells were up to 23000 microg kg(-1), mean residue concentrations in whole eggs were far below the current maximum residue levels (50 microg kg(-1) for propoxur and 60 microg kg(-1) for phoxim). These results provide the first evidence that propoxur and phoxim do not penetrate from eggshell into whole egg under experimental and field conditions. Subsequently, residue carry-over after egg cracking in households and during a worst-case situation in an egg-cracking plant was investigated. However, when eggs were cracked manually, a negligible contamination of whole egg values occurred. If, in an automated process, eggshells accidentally come into close contact with whole egg, very high residue levels of propoxur and phoxim may be generated time dependently. Comparison of new foliar nutrient thresholds derived from van den Burg’s literature compilation with established central European references 总被引:1,自引:1,他引:0
In this paper, we suggest new nutrient threshold values and ratios for the major nutrients (N, P, K, Ca, Mg) for four main trees species Pinus sylvestris, Picea abies, Fagus sylvatica and Quercus (Q. robur and Q. petraea) statistically derived from the data collection of van den Burg’s literature compilation (1985, 1990), and compare them with widely used central European literature. The comparison is focused on the normal range of nutrition of major elements. We could show that the new critical foliar nutrient concentrations and ratios do not have the imponderabilities of the established reference systems, like restricted calibration range or data gaps for species in general or some major nutrients in particular. Ranges from the new critical foliar nutrient concentrations are generally smaller, except for broadleaves foliar Ca and Mg values, where another reference provides the narrowest ranges. The practicability of the different systems has been exemplary tested on a foliage data set of Norway spruce from the Bavarian soil survey. This application illustrates that an evaluation based on the new nutrient thresholds is in the majority of cases more cautious than the other reference systems. Moreover, evaluations based on the new concentrations and ratios are quite consistent. Comparisons with nutrient ratios related to the susceptibility to parasite attacks show that the thresholds are close to a general optimum range, indicating health and intact resistance mechanisms of these tree species. Uncertainties of the new threshold values as well as the need to further evaluate and develop reference systems for nutrient status of forest trees are discussed. 相似文献

Animal response to landscape heterogeneity directs dispersal and affects connectivity between populations. Topographical heterogeneity
is a major source of landscape heterogeneity, which is rarely studied in the contexts of movement, dispersal, or connectivity.
The current study aims at characterizing and quantifying the impacts of topography on landscape connectivity. We focus on
‘hilltopping’ behavior in butterflies, a dispersal-like behavior where males and virgin females ascend to mountain summits
and mate there. Our approach integrates three elements: an individual-based model for simulating animal movements across topographically
heterogeneous landscapes; a formula for the accessibility of patches in homogenous landscapes; and a graphical analysis of
the plots of the simulation-based vs. the formula-based accessibility values. We characterize the functional relationship
between accessibility values and landscape structure (referred to as ‘accessibility patterns’) and analyze the influence of
two factors: the intensity of the individuals’ response to topography, and the level of topographical noise. We show that,
despite the diversity of topographical landscapes, animal response to topography results in the formation of two, quantifiable
accessibility patterns. We term them ‘effectively homogeneous’ and ‘effectively channeled’. The latter, in which individuals
move toward a single summit, prevails over a wide range of behavioral and spatial parameters. Therefore, ‘channeled’ accessibilities
may occur in a variety of landscapes and contexts. Our work provides novel tools for understanding and predicting accessibility
patterns in heterogeneous landscapes. These tools are essential for linking movement behavior, movement patterns and connectivity.
We also present new insights into the practical value of ecologically scaled landscape indices. 相似文献

ABSTRACT This study explored the possibilities that changes in the egg shell/lipid layer electrical potential or pH communicate external hatching conditions to the Heterodera glycines second-stage juvenile (J2) within the mature egg and that electrophysiology could measure effects of chemicals on emergence. Potentials were measured following application of the emergence inducers (ZnSO(4) and ZnCl(2)), ions that do not affect emergence, or synthetic emergence inhibitors. Results were compared with pH measurements and emergence bioassays. Healthy appearing eggs had negative resting potentials. Application of ZnSO(4) caused a smooth depolarization. However, eggs containing J2 and immature eggs depolarized to a similar degree when ZnSO(4) was added. In addition, ZnSO(4), synthetic emergence inhibitors, and CaCl(2) caused similar depolarization, and some depolarization was measured in dye-permeable eggs and empty shells. Results suggest that change in cation surface charge contributed to depolarization and that Cl penetrated the egg shell/lipid layer without causing potential changes. In bioassays, zinc consistently stimulated emergence to a greater degree than H(2)O, other cations, or buffers, and counteracted emergence inhibitors. Zinc-caused emergence stimulation was independent of pH. In summary, it is concluded that depolarization and pH are not emergence signals and electrophysiology is unlikely to measure effectiveness of emergence stimulators or inhibitors. 相似文献
