The stearine fraction from raw fish oil refinement has been treated as a waste material. This study was conducted to evaluate effects of replacing prime refined fish oil with stearine as the main lipid source to a control diet on shrimp growth and survival as well as on pellet water stability of diets. Test diets were processed containing three levels (0.7%, 1.3% and 2.7%) of either stearine or refined fish oil in a semi‐purified control diet. These diets were each assigned to five or six replicated tanks and each tank was stocked with seventeen juvenile shrimp (ca. 0.50 g) in an indoor seawater recirculating system. At the end of 6 weeks, the survival of shrimp was 89.4–95.3% with no significant difference (P > 0.05) among dietary treatments. The six test diets obtained significantly higher (P < 0.05) shrimp growth rates (1.46–1.83 g week?1) than the control diet (1.38 g week?1). The shrimp that were fed the three stearine‐added diets exhibited high growth rates (1.75–1.83 g week?1). Increasing the inclusion level of the stearine improved pellet water stability (91.7–93.9%; P < 0.05). A greenhouse study was conducted to assess the fertilizer value and determine the optimum application rate of five winery solid waste (WSW) composts containing varied filter material (FM) mixed proportions with grape marc and pruning canes using maize. The composts comprised of 4, 10, 20, 30, and 40% FM (w/w) designated C4FM, C10FM, C20FM, C30FM, and C40FM, respectively. Application rates of 5, 10, 20, 40, and 80 t ha?1 were used; while unamended control and inorganic NPK fertilizer treatments were included as references. The results showed that application of composts with 20% FM or more at 80 t ha?1 significantly increased the dry matter yield more than NPK fertilizer but full potential was not reached due to inadequate nitrogen supply. Maize shoot K content from compost treatments exceeded the critical nutrient level while the shoot Zn content from compost treatments with 20% FM or less also exceeded the critical level. The results revealed that these composts could serve as potential good sources of K and Zn for maize production, particularly, in sandy soils where these nutrients are often reported to be deficient. Meticillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) has emerged as a major therapeutic challenge for small animal veterinarians over the past 10 years and continues to spread worryingly in many countries. This review focuses on the clinical aspects of MRSP infections seen in patients with skin disease and on currently available treatment options. In addition, it discusses the implications for in-contact people, other animals and the environment, because infection control strategies are likely to have a significant impact on treatment success and prevention of spread. There is currently no indication that MRSP is more virulent than meticillin-susceptible S. pseudintermedius, and reported infections have mostly been treated successfully, although possibly with a longer time to resolution than infections with more susceptible S. pseudintermedius. However, in vitro testing of MRSP isolates indicates resistance to most or all antibacterial agents licensed for use in pets. Based on susceptibility results, the most useful systemic antimicrobials may include chloramphenicol, rifampicin, amikacin, clindamycin and/or minocycline. Adverse effects of some of these medications may limit their usefulness. While in vitro susceptibility to vancomycin and linezolid is reported by some laboratories, use of these drugs in animals is strongly discouraged because of ethical considerations. Aggressive topical therapy has been effective as the only treatment in certain cases. Awareness, continued research and comprehensive management of infections are required by veterinary practitioners not only to help treat infected animals but also to limit the spread and prevent the establishment of this highly drug-resistant and zoonotic pathogen in veterinary facilities and in the community. 相似文献

The objectives of this study were to obtain relevant blood flow indices of umbilical arteries (UmA) of porcine fetuses using a laparoscopic ultrasound probe and to relate these data with fetal size at early to mid gestation. Fetal parameters and flow indices, i.e., fetal length and area, fetal heart rate (FHR), systolic pulse duration (T1), interpulse duration (T2), T2/T1 ratio, peak systolic velocity (PSV), time averaged velocity (TAV), resistance index (RI) and pulsatility index (PI), were measured in 182 fetuses of 26 pregnant Landrace gilts on pregnancy day (PD) 36 (122 fetuses from 17 gilts), PD42 (19 fetuses from 3 gilts) and PD51 (42 fetuses from 6 gilts). Fetal heart rate was higher on PD36 than on PD42 (P<0.05). No differences (P>0.05) were obtained concerning systolic pulse duration, flow velocities and RI. On PD42, the PI was lower (P<0.05), while the interpulse duration (P=0.06) and T2/T1 ratio tended (P=0.08) to be higher on PD42 compared with PD36 and to PD51. To find differences in UmA blood flow parameters concerning fetal size, i.e., fetal length, fetuses were retrospectively grouped as follows: small (lower 25%), medium (mean 50%) and large (upper 25%), respectively. Although, fetuses differed in size (P<0.001) within and between days of pregnancy, FHR, PSV, TAV, RI and PI did not differ (P>0.05) among the size classes. Only systolic pulse duration tended to be longer (P=0.05) in large compared with small fetuses on PD36, and interpulse duration was lower in large fetuses on PD36 in comparison with PD51 (P<0.05). Though there was no link between fetal blood flow indices and fetal intrauterine growth retardation (IUGR), with further studies based on these flow indices, it might be possible to evaluate nutrient- or stress-related influences on fetal growth and development, particularly in the case of IUGR. 相似文献
