Isoflavone extracts of red clover Trifolium pratense L. (cv. Pawera) with dissimilar glucoside conjugate profiles were obtained by employing different postharvest drying methods. The most prominent isoflavones found were formononetin and biochanin A and their corresponding glucosides and malonyl glucoside esters. Postharvest freeze drying inhibited the conversion of the glycosides to the aglycones, while vacuum drying allowed for maximum conversion of the glycosides to their corresponding aglycones. Air drying produced a low level of the aglycones formononetin and biochanin A, and oven drying promoted decarboxylation of the malonyl glucosides to the acetyl glucosides. Exposure to enhanced UV-B radiation resulted in an increase in total formononetin and biochanin A isoflavone levels, indicating that harvest during a period of high ambient UV-B radiation may be appropriate for maximum yield. The levels of caffeic acid and flavonols also increased by about 40 and 250%, respectively, on exposure to enhanced UV-B radiation. 相似文献

Industrial crops provide a possibility for utilization of heavy metal polluted soils. Knowledge of the factors which affect metal uptake by crops is therefore essential in order to develop concepts for the management of such soils. In pot experiments the uptake of Zn by oilseed rape increased considerably with the Zn supply. The increase of Zn uptake was counteracted partly by S. A 7-years-old Clydesdale mare was presented with severe abdominal distension and acute colic. Dilated large intestine was palpated per rectum and a ventral midline exploratory laparotomy was performed. A 180 degrees volvulus of the pelvic flexure was present, associated with an inelastic band of tissue connecting the mesocolon to the umbilicus. The band was ligated and transected, and the volvulus reduced. Postoperative complications included hyponatraemia, metabolic acidosis and laminitis. The development of communities of arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) was investigated in the subalpine foreland of the glacier Morteratsch located at approx. 1900–2100 m a.s.l. near Pontresina (Engiadin’ Ota, Switzerland). In particular, we asked if the succession of AMF communities follows or precedes the primary plant succession, and we checked the mycorrhizal status of the pioneer plant Epilobium fleischeri. Soil samples were taken at pioneer and dense grassland sites established during the last hundred years representing different periods of glacier retreat: 1875–1900, 1940–1950, 1970–1980 and 1990–2000. Extraradical hyphal length densities and AMF spore populations were analyzed in soil samples. Spore formation and mycorrhizal root colonization were monitored in trap cultures grown on Trifolium pratense, Lolium perenne, Plantago lanceolata and Hieracium pilosella or on E. fleischeri over 14 months. We found that E. fleischeri is strongly arbuscular mycorrhizal, but plants in closest distance to the glacier (glacier retreat in the last 4–6 years before sampling) were non-mycorrhizal. Spore densities and root colonization in trap cultures were generally low in samples from glacier stage 1990–2000. Highest spore density and colonization were found for the sites ice-free since 1970–1980, whilst highest AMF species richness and hyphal length densities were found at the sites ice-free since 1875–1900. Our findings show an establishment of a few AMF pioneer species (e.g. Diversispora versiformis and Acaulospora punctata) within 5–10 years and species rich AMF communities at sites ice-free for 100 years (28 species). Their succession generally follows the succession of the plant communities. We conclude that AMF pioneer species might be mainly distributed by wind transport while other AMF fungi (e.g. Glomus rubiforme and Glomus aureum) rather need a below-ground hyphal network to invade new areas. 相似文献

Calcium ions enter and accumulate during depolarization of some cells, activating a potassium current, IK(Ca), that depends on the cytoplasmic concentration of calcium ions, [Ca]i. However, elevation of [Ca]i can depress IK(Ca) elicited by a subsequent membrane depolarization. The depression of IK(Ca) is ascribed here to a [Ca]i-mediated inactivation of the voltage-gated calcium conductance, which causes a net reduction in calcium ions available for the activation of IK(Ca). It was the aim of the present study to determine the mobile nutrient content in leaves and pods of oilseed rape in relation to leaf age and growth stage and to develop an instrument to estimate the possible significance for interpretation of plant analytical data. From older leaves an increasing amount of sulfur (S), potassium (K), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), and phosphorus (P) was leached, while no N was extracted after 24 h of leaching. In younger leaves the potential for nutrient leaching was below 10% for all investigated nutrients while in older leaves this value increased to 58% for S, 28% for P, 21% for Mg, 18% for Ca and 16% for K. Generally the potential for nutrient leaching from leaves and pods increased with growth stage. Until BBCH 83 nutrient leaching from pods was very low with less than 5% for the investigated elements, except S, but increased with further ripening drastically. 相似文献

Abstract Extract Hypoadrenocorticism, or Addison's disease, is an uncommon en-docrinopathy of dogs (Feldman and Nelson 2004). Long-term management of affected dogs in New Zealand involves treatment with oral fludrocortisone acetate (Florinef tablets; Bristol-Myers Squibb (NZ) Ltd, Auckland, NZ), which is a relatively expensive synthetic adrenocortical steroid. Table salt may be added to the food, in an attempt to reduce the amount of fludrocortisone required. Despite fludrocortisone therapy, many Addisonian dogs remain hyponatraemic and hyperkalaemic and the required dose of fludrocortisone may need to be increased during the first year of treatment. The effects of different edible coatings on mango fruit ripening and ripe fruit quality parameters including color, firmness, soluble solids concentrations, total acidity, ascorbic acid, total carotenoids, fatty acids, and aroma volatiles were investigated. Hard mature green mango (Mangifera indica L. cv. Kensigton Pride) fruits were coated with aqueous mango carnauba (1:1 v/v), Semperfresh (0.6%), Aloe vera gel (1:1, v/v), or A. vera gel (100%). Untreated fruit served as the control. Following the coating, fruits were allowed to dry at room temperature and packed in soft-board trays to ripen at 21+/-1 degrees C and 55.2+/-11.1% relative humidity until the eating soft stage. Mango carnauba was effective in retarding fruit ripening, retaining fruit firmness, and improving fruit quality attributes including levels of fatty acids and aroma volatiles. Semperfresh and A. vera gel (1:1 or 100%) slightly delayed fruit ripening but reduced fruit aroma volatile development. A. vera gel coating did not exceed the commercial mango carnauba and Semperfresh in retarding fruit ripening and improving aroma volatile biosynthesis. 相似文献

Criteria for evaluating genetic differences in resistance and susceptibility to infectious bursal disease (IBD) within a commercial broiler breeder line of chickens were compared. Line A broiler breeder chickens were challenged with graded doses of Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) strain IBD virus (IBDV) and evaluated at 2 time points, 3 days postinoculation (PI) and 10 days PI. Measures obtained at both time points included bursa to body weight, bursa histology, bursa lymphocyte count, and percentage of T cells in the bursa. Furthermore, viral load in the bursa was determined 3 days PI and anti-IBDV antibody titers, 10 days PI. A dose of 50 50% embryo infective dose caused IBD in about half the line A birds at the 10-day time point, and this dose was chosen for further studies. The data were analyzed for correlation among the various measures. Comparison of the 3-day- and 10-day-PI bursa lymphocyte counts indicated that birds challenged with low doses of virus suffered lymphocyte depletion at the 3-day time point, but many or all (depending on the dose) recovered by the 10-day time point. With a viral dose that caused bursal atrophy in about half the birds by 10 days PI, families segregating for 2 major histocompatibility complex (MHC) haplotypes were compared in terms of resistance to IBD.
