Analysis of the interlayer infrared conductivity of cuprate high-transition temperature superconductors reveals an anomalously large energy scale extending up to midinfrared frequencies that can be attributed to formation of the superconducting condensate. This unusual effect is observed in a va- riety of materials, including Tl2Ba2CuO6+x, La2-xSrxCuO4, and YBa2Cu3O6.6, which show an incoherent interlayer response in the normal state. Midinfrared range condensation was examined in the context of sum rules that can be formulated for the complex conductivity. One possible interpretation of these experiments is in terms of a kinetic energy change associated with the superconducting transition.  相似文献

This study was conducted to improve yields and qualities of corn protein co‐products produced by the sequential extraction process (SEP), a process using ethanol to fractionate corn in producing fuel ethanol. A two‐stage extraction protocol was evaluated to recover zein and subsequently recover a glutelin‐rich fraction (GRF). After the simultaneous oil‐extraction and ethanol‐drying step of SEP, zein was extracted from the anhydrous‐ethanol‐defatted, flaked corn by using 70% (v/v) ethanol at 60°C for 1.5 hr in a shaking water bath. Zein was recovered by ultrafiltering and then drying in a vacuum‐oven. Zein yield was 65% of the available zein in the flaked corn. SDS‐PAGE band patterns of the recovered zein closely resembled that of commercial zein. After zein extraction, the GRF was extracted using 45% ethanol and 55% 0.1M NaOH at 55°C for 2 hr. The extract was concentrated by ultrafiltration and then freeze‐dried. GRF yield was ≈65% of the available protein. Freeze‐dried GRF contained 90% crude protein (db), which classified the protein as a protein isolate. As with the protein concentrate from the original SEP, the GRF isolate was highly soluble in water at pH ≥ 7, had good emulsifying and foaming properties, formed stable emulsions, and was heat‐stable.  相似文献

The Sequential Extraction Process (SEP), a process that uses ethanol to fractionate corn into high‐value co‐products when producing fuel ethanol, was evaluated using high‐oil corn (HOC). Oil and protein recoveries, ethanol‐drying capability, and oil and protein properties were compared with those produced from normal soft dent corn (SDC) using SEP. Moisture adsorption capacities (≈24 g of water/kg of corn) and oil recoveries (>95%) were nearly identical for both corn types. However, oil yield from HOC (7.1 g of oil/100 g of corn) was 65% more than that of SDC (4.3 g of oil/100 g of corn). HOC crude oil was less red and contained lower free fatty acid and phosphatide contents than did SDC oil. HOC zein contained higher crude protein content (86% db) than did SDC zein (79% db). The freeze‐dried glutelin‐rich fractions (GRF) from both types of corn contained >90% (db) crude protein, which meet the criteria of protein isolates. SEP GRF protein isolates had >85% protein soluble in water at pH ≥ 7. Both GRF protein isolates from HOC and SDC were heat‐stable, had good emulsifying capacities, and produced highly stable emulsions. They also had substantial foaming capacities, but the foam from HOC GRF protein isolate was significantly more stable than the foam from SDC GRF protein isolate. SEP is a suitable process for recovering oil and protein products from HOC corn when producing fuel ethanol and, if competitively priced, HOC is a preferred feedstock to SDC because of higher yields and qualities of valuable co‐products when using HOC.  相似文献

This investigation determined the functional properties of protein in Lesquerella fendleri seed and press cake from oil processing. L. fendleri seeds were heat-treated at 82 °C (180 °F) during 120 min residence time in the seed conditioner, and then screw-pressed to extract the oil. Unprocessed ground, defatted lesquerella seeds and press cakes were analyzed for proximate composition and protein functional properties. Protein from unprocessed lesquerella seed showed the greatest solubility (≥60%) at pH 2 and 10 and was least soluble (25%) at pH 5.5–7. Unprocessed lesquerella protein also had high surface hydrophobicity index (So), as well as, excellent foaming capacity and stability, emulsifying properties, and water-holding capacity (WHC) at pH 7. Protein solubility profile of the press cake showed up to 50% reduction in soluble proteins at nearly all pH levels, indicating heat denaturation during cooking and screw-pressing. Foaming capacity of the press cake protein decreased slightly, but foam stability was completely lost. Press cake protein also had markedly reduced values for So, emulsifying properties and WHC, further confirming lesquerella protein’s sensitivity to heat treatment.  相似文献

Whole lesquerella seeds with 6% (as is) and 12% moisture content (MC) were extruded at different residence times by varying screw speeds and feed rates. The temperature of the extrudate was recorded and its MC was determined. The extent of seed cooking was evaluated by measuring the protein solubility and thioglucosidase (TGSase) activity in the extrudate. Uncooked whole seeds (UWS), whole seeds cooked in seed cooker (CWS), and extrusion-cooked seeds (ECS) were screw pressed and the crude oils were analyzed for foots, free fatty acid (FFA), phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, and sulfur. The screw speed and feed rates employed resulted in residence times ranging from 22 to 110 s. The corresponding exit temperatures of the extrudates ranged from 88 to143 °C. Seeds with 6% initial MC dried to 4.3% at extrudate temperatures ≤125 °C regardless of residence time, while seeds with 12% initial MC came out at 7–9% MC, Extruding seeds with 6 and 12% starting MC for 34 and 41 s, respectively, provided the same degree of cooking as that of 12% MC CWS. All CWS and ECS tested negative for TGSase activity. ECS with 6% initial MC generated much higher foots (6.4–9.4%) in the oil compared with that of the 12% MC ECS (1–1.7%). The crude oils from CWS had the lowest FFA content at 1.25%. Crude oils from UWS and ECS had FFA ranging from 1.4–2.8%. The crude oil from 12% MC CWS had 374 ppm sulfur which was 3–8× higher than what were found in crude oils from 6% MC CWS and ECS. The highest P (23 ppm), Ca (14 ppm), and Mg (6 ppm) levels in the crude oil were from 12% MC CWS, which were comparable to total degummed oils. An 81% oil recovery from 6% MC ECS (22 s residence time) was obtained at 19 rpm expeller screw speed. Increasing the expeller's screw speed from 19 to 37 rpm decreased the oil recovery by 0.2%/rpm, increased the throughput by 3.3 kg/rpm from 70 to 130 kg/h, and reduced the press load from 91 to 67%.  相似文献

Lesquerella fendleri is a developing oilseed crop suitable for temperate growing regions in the US. The seed oil is rich in lesquerolic acid (57%) and could serve as a domestic source of hydroxy fatty acids. A method for the analysis of fatty acids and total oil content of a half or single lesquerella seed was developed. Lesquerella seeds are small with 1000 seed weights around 0.6 g (half seed mass of 200–500 μg). Conventional analytical balances provide mass accuracy to ±40 μg which fails to provide sufficient accuracy/precession (4–40% mass error) for the initial seed mass. A microbalance which measures to ±2 μg provided good reproducibility in initial seed weights but was not suitable for mass balance of the extracted oil. A normal phase HPLC coupled to an evaporative light scattering detector gave good response for oil in the mass range of 22 μg to 110 μg/mL. Therefore, micelle concentrations from single or half seed extractions could be determined with good reproducibility. This method was then evaluated on bulk seed that had been fractionated on a gravity table. Gravity table fractionation of L. fendleri seeds obtained from a large field plot provided seven fractions with increasing bulk density. These fractions were then analyzed in sets of 30 individual seeds and as an aggregate of 50 seeds. Oil content for individual seeds varied widely (15.6–44.2%) as did lesquerolic acid content (42.2–63.7%). The mean oil content increased (27–33%) with increasing bulk density (684–745 g/L). The mean lesquerolic acid content did not correlate with bulk density.  相似文献

We report the case of a bilateral and multilocular spermatocele and sperm granuloma in a dog that was vasectomized 5 years before. Clinical examination revealed scrotal dermatitis and benign prostatic hyperplasia. Orchiectomy was performed, and gross and histological examination showed testicular degeneration associated with epididymal sperm granuloma. In relation to this case, the literature about long-term effects of vasectomy in dogs has been reviewed. On the basis of these results, a preventive sonogram and physical assessment in prostate and other reproductive structures before vasectomy is recommended.  相似文献

Ovarian ultrasonography and plasma progesterone levels were monitored in 37 lactating Holstein cows with a history of repeat breeding; the data obtained were analysed in conjunction with clinical and behavioural signs, to identify the aetiology of the syndrome. Differences were detected between RBCs displaying apparently normal cycles and others with irregular cycles. There were also differences in heat expression; a large number of repeat breeder cows (RBCs, 50%) displayed delayed or silent oestrus. Ovarian disorders were common in RBCs, and included ovarian cysts, mistimed AI, subluteal progesterone levels, luteal dysfunction or ovulation defects. Both ultrasonography and plasma progesterone assays are useful tools for ascertaining the aetiology of the repeat breeder syndrome.  相似文献

The potential impact of climate change on rice and corn crops in the Philippines was assessed using preliminary results from four general circulation models and the Decision Support System for Agrotechnology Transfer. The results showed both increases and decreases in the yield of two rice varieties. The results for corn showed a consistent decrease in yield. The decrease in crop yield may be due to a shorter maturity period and an increase in potential evapotranspiration as a result of increased daytime and nighttime temperatures, which are critical to dry matter production. Rainfall in tropical areas such as the Philippines is generally high, and so a decrease in rainfall of only 10% may not affect the water supply significantly, but an increase of the same magnitude may affect crop production tremendously because of frequent occurrences of floods. One potential negative impact not included in this analysis is the effects of strong winds due to typhoons.  相似文献
