The commercial available diatomaceous earth Fossil Shield® and the neem product Neem Azal-T/S® are tested as single treatments and in combination as controls for the stored product pests Sitophilus oryzae (L.) and Tribolium castaneum (Herbst). The diatomaceous earth, applied in concentrations of 0.5 g, 1 g and 2 g kg-1 rice, reduced numbers of surviving beetles significantly (over a period of 3 weeks). A single treatment with the neem product, in concentrations of 0.01 g, 0.1 g, 0.2 g and 1 g azadirachtin kg-1 rice, increased the mortality rate for both species significantly. The combination of neem and diatomaceous earth (1 g diatomaceous earth with 0.2 g or 1 g azadirachtin kg-1 rice) was more effective than the single treatment in reducing numbers of surviving beetles. 相似文献
The serological and histopathological responses of bovine fetuses to in utero inoculation with virulent and attenuated strains of the calf rotavirus (reovirus-like agent of neonatal calf diarrhea) are described. Thirteen bovine fetuses, 63 to 190 days of gestation, were inoculated in utero with attenuated (three fetuses) or field strain virus (nine fetuses) or both (one fetus).
Serum-neutralizing antibody titers ranging from 1:16 to > 1:256 were detected in six of eight fetuses tested, demonstrating the ability of the bovine fetus to respond immunologically to this agent. The youngest fetus in the series was inoculated at 63 days of gestation and developed a titer of 128 in 64 days. This represents the earliest stage of gestation at which a bovine fetus has been inoculated with a bovine virus and found to produce antibody to it. Serum neutralizing titers in six of the eight dams tested increased significantly following the inoculations of their fetuses in utero.
Histological changes associated with viral replication and antigenic stimulation of the lymphoreticular system were observed. Pneumonic lesions consisting of both local and diffuse lymphoreticular proliferation were present in five of the nine fetuses that were alive at slaughter. Gliosis and perivascular cuffing were noted in the brains of two of these fetuses and meningitis was seen in one. No evidence of teratogenic change was found.
A system is described for the exposure of freshwater snails to pesticides in flowing water. The method allows groups of seven snails to be confined in about 20 ml of water under constant conditions of pesticide concentration, oxygen tension and temperature for up to 5 days. The uptake rate of 4′-chloronicotinanilide into the planorbid snail, Biomphalaria glabrata (Say), has been measured using this method with liquid scintillation counting techniques. The necessity for an acclimatisation period prior to exposure and the possible influence of activity on uptake is demonstrated. The advantages of the flowing system over exposure in static solutions are discussed and the use of the apparatus in deciding whether relative uptake rates can account for interspecific differences in susceptibility or contribute to the improvement of molluscicide specificity, is indicated. 相似文献
Penetration of bean leaves (Phaseolus vulgaris var. Canadian Wonder) by aminotriazole (3-amino-1,2,4-triazole) was greatly enhanced under high humidity conditions (ca 10% in 17 h at the low humidity level (LHL) compared with ca 80% in 2 h at the high humidity level (HHL)). The addition of polyoxyethylene 20 sorbitan monolaurate (polysorbate 20) to the spray fluid increased penetration on all occasions at the LHL. The increase obtained was found to be dependent on the concentration of polysorbate 20. The inclusion of polysorbate 20 at the HHL resulted in an increase in aminotriazole penetration at low polysorbate 20 concentrations 0.2–12.8 g/litre and a non-significant decrease over the aqueous control at a concentration of 40 g/litre. With additions of glycerol to the spray fluid, aminotriazole penetration was increased on all occasions at the LHL while at the HHL no concentration of glycerol was found to enhance penetration. The addition of polysorbate 20 (< 0.1 to 40 g/litre) to a spray solution containing glycerol (0.3 ml/litre) enhanced penetration at the HHL compared with the aqueous and glycerol controls. A polysorbate 20 plus glycerol combination (6.4 g+0.6 ml/litre) gave the same order of penetration (98.4 and 94.0%) at the HHL and LHL respectively. In both cases penetration exceeded that obtained with the corresponding polysorbate 20 and glycerol controls. Some of the practical implications of these findings are discussed. 相似文献
Pyrimidine 5'nucleotidase (P5N) activities of erythrocytes for Mongolian gerbils, cats, dogs, sheep, horses, and calves were measured, using a radiometric technique with [14C]cytidine monophosphate as the substrate. Erythrocytes of gerbils had the highest activity [1,177.1 +/- 133.6 mU/g of hemoglobin (Hb)]. Feline erythrocytes had 327.4 +/- 204.4 mU/g of Hb. Canine erythrocytes had 148.0 +/- 19.8 mU/g of Hb. Ovine erythrocytes (44.3 +/- 20.9 mU/g of Hb), equine erythrocytes (30.0 +/- 15.9 mU/g of Hb), and bovine erythrocytes (14.1 +/- 6.9) had relatively low P5N activity. The P5N activity was approximately proportional to the reticulocyte percentage of and inversely proportional to the mean erythrocyte life span in these species. 相似文献
The effect of ischaemic neuromyopathy in cats on peripheral muscles and nerves is described. Motor function was severely decreased distal to the stifle particularly in the cranial tibial muscles. Skin sensation was absent distal to the mid tibial or hock level. The affected muscles were often hard and painful. Improvement of motor function began two to three weeks after onset and complete recovery could occur. Conduction to the interosseous and anterior tibial muscles is absent or severely reduced initially but returned and improved within two weeks. A few peripheral nerve fibres could survive the ischaemia, others showed varying defects on the myelin sheath but the majority degenerated. Shorter term recoveries were probably due to repair of the myelin sheath. Regenerated nerve fibres were also demonstrated. The cranial tibial muscles were commonly infarcted while less severe myopathic changes were found in the gastrocnemii. Provided further ischaemic episodes can be prevented the prognosis in these cases appears good. 相似文献
A retrospective study of pathologically confirmed cases of feline spinal lymphosarcoma (FSL) admitted to the Colleges of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia and North Carolina State University from 1973 to 1988 was conducted. Two hundred fourteen cases of feline lymphosarcoma were diagnosed histopathologically; involvement of the central nervous system (CNS) was identified in 26 (12.1%). Twenty-three of these tumors involved the spinal cord, and 22 of the 23 were solitary. A predilection for the thoracic and lumbar vertebral canal was noted. Most cats with spinal disease were young, with mean and median ages of 43 and 24 months, respectively; 67 cats were 36 months of age or younger. In most cases, affected cats had acute neurological deterioration after an initial insidious course. Extraneural abnormalities were not consistently present. Neoplastic lymphocytes diagnostic of FSL were identified on cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analysis in 6 of 17 cats evaluated. Sixteen of 17 cats evaluated had serologically positive test results for feline leukemia virus (FeLV) p27 antigen, and all cats tested for feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) antibodies had negative test results. 相似文献
