A field experiment was conducted for eight years at ICAR-Indian Institute of Wheat and Barley Research, Karnal, Haryana, India to study the skipping effect of P application on productivity, profitability and sustainability of rice-wheat cropping system. Rice yield and biomass were 8.35% and 6.6% higher where cowpea was grown after wheat compared to rice-vegetable pea-wheat crop sequence, respectively. Phosphorus application to rice or wheat or both crops exhibited at par rice grain yield, biomass, harvest index. Phosphorus application to both crops or only in rice crop produced maximum and significantly higher wheat yield (4.62 t ha?1) as compared to P application only to wheat (4.48 t ha?1). Eight years growing of green gram, cowpea and vegetable pea increased the organic carbon content 42.89, 16.38 and 4.57 %, respectively compared to the initial level. Skipping of P to either crop, by considering 13.5 million ha rice-wheat area, will save approximately Rs 40,500 million (Rs = Indian rupee) or US $ 623 million ($ = Rs 65) per year. Air pollution may be checked, due to saving on diesel in transportation of P fertilizer, to the tune of 60,383 tonnes of CO2 per year by reducing emission of one of important global warming gas. 相似文献

BACKGROUND: Maize is one of the staple food crops grown in India. Fusarium verticillioides (Sacc.) Nirenberg is the most important fungal pathogen of maize, associated with diseases such as ear rot and kernel rot. Apart from the disease, it is capable of producing fumonisins, which have elicited considerable attention over the past decade owing to their association with animal disease syndromes. Hence, the present study was conducted to evaluate ecofriendly approaches by using a maize rhizosphere isolate of Pseudomonas fluorescens (Trev.) Mig. and its formulation to control ear rot disease and fumonisin accumulation, and also to study the capacity to promote growth and yield of maize. In vitro assays were conducted to test the efficacy of P. fluorescens as a seed treatment on seed germination, seedling vigour and also the incidence of F. verticillioides in different maize cultivars. The field trials included both seed treatment and foliar spray. For all the experiments, P. fluorescens was formulated using corn starch, wheat bran and talc powder. In each case there were three different treatments of P. fluorescens, a non‐treated control and chemical control. RESULTS: Pure culture and the formulations, in comparison with the control, increased plant growth and vigour as measured by seed germination, seedling vigour, plant height, 1000 seed weight and yield. P. fluorescens pure culture used as seed treatment and as spray treatment enhanced the growth parameters and reduced the incidence of F. verticillioides and the level of fumonisins to a maximum extent compared with the other treatments. CONCLUSION: The study demonstrates the potential role of P. fluorescens and its formulations in ear rot disease management. Toxicity of rotenone was studied in a few common freshwater predatory and weed fishes through wet laboratory experiments for its use as a piscicide during pond preparation. Cube root powder (CRP) (ENT-133 Rotenone) containing 9% rotenone was used as the toxicant source. Lethal concentration of CRP for these common predatory and weed fishes varied between 0.75–2.70 mg L?1 (0.068–0.243 mg L?1 of rotenone). Acute toxicity study revealed Puntius sophore to have more susceptibility to rotenone toxicity with 24 h LC50 value of CRP at 0.50 mg L?1 (0.045 mg L?1 rotenone) compared to 1.17 mg L?1 (0.105 mg L?1 rotenone) in Anabas testudineus and 1.90 mg L?1 in Channa punctatus (0.171 mg L?1 rotenone); while Heteropneustes fossilis showed higher tolerance with 24 h LC50 value at 2.42 mg L?1 (0.218 mg L?1 rotenone). Such result suggested rotenone toxicity to depend on the respiratory behavior of fish. The marginal reduction in 48 h LC50 of CRP compared to its 24 h value and no fish mortality beyond 48-h in all tested species suggested faster degradation of the toxicant in water. Since application of the piscicide aims at eradication of all commonly available species of predatory and weed fishes in the culture pond, the study suggested a dose of 2.5 mg L?1 of CRP (0.225 mg L?1 rotenone) for pond application. 相似文献

Spatial variation in yield and fruit composition has been observed in many vineyards, leading to low productivity. In this study, site-specific irrigation was applied in a commercial vineyard (Vitis vinifera L. cv. Shiraz) block in the Sunraysia region of Australia to improve production in low-yielding areas of the block and decrease differences in yield and quality between irrigation management zones. Data collected under uniform irrigation management showed that spatial variation in canopy cover, yield and fruit composition across the vineyard block was substantial. Normalised difference vegetation index (NDVI) and canopy temperature data supported delineation of three irrigation management zones and decisions regarding irrigation strategy. Water use efficiency and yield improvements were achieved by implementing site-specific irrigation. Fruit composition results were varied; pH and titratable acidity showed increased similarity between zones, but other parameters maintained differences between zones. These results lend support to the use of NDVI to determine irrigation management zones. 相似文献

A 45‐day feeding trial was conducted to study the stress ameliorating and immunomodulatory role of microbial levan in Cyprinus carpio fry exposed to sublethal dose (1/10th LC50) of fipronil [(±)‐5‐amino‐1‐(2,6‐dichloro‐α,α,α‐trifluoro‐p‐tolyl)‐4‐trifluoromethylsulfinylpyrazole‐3‐carbonitrile]. Two hundred and twenty‐five fry were randomly distributed in five treatments in triplicates. Four purified diets were prepared with graded levels of microbial levan. Five different treatment groups were levan control L0P0 (basalfeed + 0% levan without exposure to pesticide); pesticide control L0P1 (basalfeed + 0% levan with exposure to pesticide); L0.25P1 (basalfeed + 0.25% levan with exposure to pesticide); L0.50P1 (basalfeed + 0.50% levan with exposure to pesticide) and L0.75P1 (basalfeed + 0.75% levan with exposure to pesticide). Lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), malate dehydrogenase (MDH) and fructose‐1,6‐diphosphatase (FDPase) activites were significantly (P < 0.05) increased, whereas alkaline phosphatase (ALP), adenosine triphosphatase (ATPase) and acetyl choline esterase (AchE) activities were significantly (P < 0.05) reduced in higher levan‐fed groups. RBC, haemoglobin and WBC counts were significantly (P < 0.05) increased in the levan‐fed groups. Similar trends were also observed for the total serum protein, globulin, NBT and lysozyme activities. Blood glucose and serum cortisol exhibited a third order polynomial relationship with increasing level of dietary levan. Overall result showed stress ameliorating, immunostimulating and protective role of microbial levan against fipronil‐induced stress in C. carpio fry at 0.75% level of dietary levan supplementation. 相似文献

Guineagrass ( Panicum maximum Jacq.) is one of the major forage grasses in tropical and semitropical regions, largely apomictic and predominantly exist as tetraploid. Non-availability of polymorphic molecular markers has been a major limitation in its characterization and improvement. We report isolation and characterization of microsatellites in P. maximum and cross-species results with other five Panicum species. Based on microsatellite-motifs, 15 functional and polymorphic simple sequence repeat (SSR) primer-pairs were designed, validated and employed in estimating genetic relationship among 34 guineagrass accessions. Thirteen primer-pairs amplified single locus and remaining two generated more than two loci with an average of 3.57 bands per locus amounts to 63 bands with 34 guineagrass accessions. Average expected heterozygosity ( H E ) of 0.35 (maximum 0.97) and observed heterozygosity ( H O ) of 0.37 (maximum 0.91) established the efficiency of developed markers for discriminating guineagrass accessions. Dice's similarity coefficients-based unweighted pair group with arithmetic average method-clustering supported with high bootstrap values (≥40) indicated its significance and distinguished all accessions except IG97-93 and IG97-6. Utility of these new SSR loci in genetic diversity study of P. maximum and other cross–amplified species is discussed. 相似文献

Laboratory bioassay was conducted to establish the biocontrol potentiality of naiads (aquatic nymphal stage) of Rhodothemis rufa (Rambur, 1842) against larvae of Culex quinquefasciatus, a common vector of filariasis in Tropical countries. From the study, it was noticed that in laboratory condition, the rate of predation of males of R. rufa was higher than that of females of almost same size and same species. The results of the present study revealed that both sexes displayed a density-dependent decelerating type-II functional response as the logistic regression estimated a significant negative linear parameter (P1 value of ?0.330 and ?0.151 for males and females, respectively). Attack rate was almost similar for both sexes (0.082); however, handling time is less in males (0.62 min) than in females (0.852 min). The predator species usually coexist in the same aquatic habitat to that of mosquito larvae and can be effectively used in field condition to reduce the larval densities of mosquitoes in temporary or permanent aquatic water bodies. 相似文献
