Studies were conducted on the influence of moisture stress at different growth phases, either alone or in combination, on seed yield, quality and longevity in groundnut, at Agricultural College and Research Institute, Coimbatore. At the end of each growth phase, irrespective of available soil moisture, plots were irrigated with a measured quantity of water to a depth of 5 cm, sufficient to raise the soil moisture content of top 30 cm layer to field capacity. Plots which received stress were not irrigated in the respective growth phases. Moisture stress during the combined reproductive phases, viz. flowering + pegging and pegging + maturity, had a mitigating influence on growth and yield to a greater extent than stress at other phases. Though water deficit at different growth phases had no impact on viability and vigour of fresh seeds, it helped to enhance the longevity and the greater the stress the better the storability. The conversion of oil into free fatty acids was least in seeds collected from stress. Membrane integrity as indicated by electrical conductivity and leachate amino acids were also minimal in seeds from stressed plots.  相似文献

In the solar system, the planets' compositions vary with orbital distance, with rocky planets in close orbits and lower-density gas giants in wider orbits. The detection of close-in giant planets around other stars was the first clue that this pattern is not universal and that planets' orbits can change substantially after their formation. Here, we report another violation of the orbit-composition pattern: two planets orbiting the same star with orbital distances differing by only 10% and densities differing by a factor of 8. One planet is likely a rocky "super-Earth," whereas the other is more akin to Neptune. These planets are 20 times more closely spaced and have a larger density contrast than any adjacent pair of planets in the solar system.  相似文献

Strontium concentration and isotopic data for subsurface flowing groundwaters of the Ganges-Brahmaputra (G-B) delta in the Bengal Basin demonstrate that this is a potentially significant source of strontium to the oceans, equal in magnitude to the dissolved strontium concentration carried to the oceans by the G-B river waters. The strontium concentrations of groundwaters are higher by a factor of about 10 than typical G-B river waters and they have similar 87Sr/86Sr ratio to the river waters. These new data suggest that the present contribution of the G-B system to the rise in 87Sr/86Sr ratio in seawater is higher by at least a factor of 2 to 5 than the average over the past 40 million years.  相似文献

In lower eukaryotes-like fish, innate immunity contributed by various pattern recognition receptor (PRR) plays an essential role in protection against diseases. Nucleotide-binding and oligomerization domain (NOD)-2 is a cytoplasmic PRR that recognizes MDP (muramyl dipeptide) of the Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria as ligand and activates signalling to induce innate immunity. Hypothesizing a similar NOD2 signalling pathway of higher eukaryotes, the peripheral blood leucocytes (PBLs) of rohu (Labeo rohita) was stimulated with MDP. The data of quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) revealed MDP-mediated inductive expression of NOD2 and its down-stream molecule RICK/RIP2 (receptor-interacting serine-threonine protein kinase-2). This observation suggested the existence of MDP-binding sites in rohu NOD2 (rNOD2). To investigate it, 3D model of ligand-binding leucine-rich repeat (LRR) region of rNOD2 (rNOD2-LRR) was constructed following ab initio and threading approaches in I-TASSER web server. Structural refinement of the model was performed by energy minimization, and MD (molecular dynamics) simulation was performed in GROMACS (Groningen Machine for Chemical Simulations). The refined model of rNOD2-LRR was validated through SAVES, ProSA, ProQ, WHAT IF and MolProbity servers, and molecular docking with MDP was carried out in GOLD 4.1. The result of docking identified LRR3-7 comprising Lys820, Phe821, Asn822, Arg847, Gly849, Trp877, Trp901 and Trp931 as MDP-binding critical amino acids in rNOD2. This is the first study in fish to provide an insight into the 3D structure of NOD2-LRR region and its important motifs that are expected to be engaged in MDP binding and innate immunity.  相似文献

There are major gaps in our knowledge of the stages of infection in soil borne pathogens. Soil borne diseases, such as charcoal root rot caused by Macrophomina phaseolina on sesame, have been studied, yet due to the difficulty in observing fungal behaviour in the soil, there has been no detailed study of the infection events. Moreover no study has attempted to compare the infection events in roots of resistant versus susceptible hosts. We present the first ultra-structural report to characterize the behaviour of the fungus in the proximity of the root, the appearance of fungal hyphae on the surface of roots, microsclerotia formation on hyphal strands, early penetration events and subsequent infection processes of M. phaseolina in sesame. We observed distinct differences in fungal behaviour in the rhizosphere and during infection of susceptible and resistant varieties. This study also describes a framework for comparative experiments. The possible reasons for the difference in behaviour of M. phaseolina in the vicinity of and during infection of roots of resistant vs. susceptible varieties of sesame and its implications for disease resistance are discussed.  相似文献
