Different methods for analyzing binary mixtures by using 2 wavelengths are reviewed. The absorbance ratio calculated at 2 wavelengths, not including the isoabsorptive point, was a quadratic function of relative concentration. The curve-fitting process using orthogonal polynomials was applied to obtain the quadratic equation. An absorbance ratio can be used as a rapid purity index for sulfacetamide sodium in the presence of sulfanilamide. Sulfacetamide sodium has been determined in eye drop preparations.  相似文献

A rapid colorimetric method is presented for the quantitative determination of poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) in contact lens solutions. The method is simple, requires no sample pretreatment, and uses only a small volume of sample. The procedure is based on the measurement of the net absorbance of a poly(N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone)- Congo red complex at 545 nm. An accuracy of greater than +/- 4% was obtained for the concetnration ranges usually found in contact lens solutions with a minimum detection level of 10 ppm. The method is useful as a screening procedure for solutions of unknown composition and as a quality assurance procedure for routine determinations.  相似文献

PR toxin was unstable in solvent extracts of blue cheese and in strongly acidic solutions. However, it was appreciably stable over a 2.5 hr period in moderately acidic methanol-water extracts (pH 2--3) of blue cheese. Using this extraction mixture, it was determined that PR toxin was not stable in blue cheese itself. PR toxin reacted with model neutral and basic amino acids and the formation of PR imine from PR toxin in the presence of blue cheese was demonstrated. While PR imine added to blue cheese could be recovered on analysis after 5 min, over a 2--5 day period it too was unstable in the cheese.  相似文献

Extrusa samples were collected from two groups of oesophageally fistulated sheep grazing together. One group had foam plastic oesophageal plugs fitted below the fistula to assist in the complete collection of extrusa; the second group grazed without plugs. The extrusa were collected in four periods chosen to cover as wide a range of herbage conditions as possible varying from herbage with a high proportion of green leaves to predominantly dry material with a high proportion of dead leaves and stems. The plant components of the extrusa were determined and there was no evidence that stems or any other plant component preferentially by-pass the fistula in grazing sheep. It was concluded that it is not necessary to insert foam plastic plugs in the oesophagus of grazing sheep to obtain representative samples of ingested herbage.  相似文献

Storage losses in moist hay treated with propionic acid were compared with those occurring in untreated moist hay in two experiments and with field-cured hay in three experiments. Dry matter losses in treated hays ranged from 41 to 8.6% and from 1.7 to 12.6% in untreated hays. Digestible organic matter losses in both treated and untreated hays were generally greater than dry matter losses. Only in one experiment did propionic acid application significantly reduce nutrient losses in moist hays. Nutrient losses, and water-soluble carbohydrate losses in particular, were shown to be correlated with maximum and cumulative bale temperatures during storage in two of the experiments. The rise in hale temperatures during storage was reduced in all three experiments, to a greater or lesser extent, by application of the additive. Loss of propionic acid from the hay during and after application was very large. In the three experiments 86.2, 85.3 and 85.6% of the acid applied was lost by the end of the storage period. Acid distribution studies indicated that variation in acid concentration within bales was as great as between bales. It was concluded that more research is needed into applicator design and position on the baler and into alternative application methods if the benefits of propionic acid as a moist hay preservative are to be fully exploited.  相似文献

Evolution of C2H4 from soils under anaerobic conditions was stimulated by amendment with cereal straw, but hay had little effect. Temporary restoration of aerobic conditions resulted in large increases in C3 and C4 hydrocarbons, with both straw and hay amendments. Several known products of the fermentative degradation of carbohydrate increased the evolution of hydrocarbons under anaerobic, and to a greater extent, under aerobic conditions. In particular, ethanol and butyric acid promoted the formation of C2H4 and propylene, respectively. The association between degradation products and C2H4 suggests that both may be implicated when root growth is adversely affected by the anaerobic decomposition of plant residues.  相似文献

Seven types of fungal melanins were compared with humic compounds from chernozem and podzol soils and with commercial humic acid. The qualitative and quantitative distribution of N-compounds in 10 tropical soils, and in a number of humic materials extracted from representative samples thereof, was determined after 6 N HCl hydrolysis.Eighty to 98% of the total N in the soils and humic materials was hydrolysable by 6n HCl. Slightly less than one half the hydrolysable N in the soils and humic fractions consisted of amino acids. Well-drained soils and fulvic acids extracted from them contained unusually high concentrations of the acidic amino acids, aspartic and glutamic acids. Between 80 and 95% of the amino acids in the soils was accounted for in the humic materials + NaOH-insoluble organic residues. NH+4-N released by acid hydrolysis was generally higher for the soil samples than for the humic materials. Amino sugar-N constituted relatively small proportions of the total N in the soils and humic fractions.Our data suggest that large quantities of amorphous allophanic materials coupled with relatively high enzymic activity are responsible for the observed accumulation of acidic amino acids in the well-drained tropical volcanic soils.  相似文献
