This essay tries to analyze the German fruit-growing industry by the means of the industry life cycle model. The main aspects of the analysis are “consumption and prices”, “competition”, “product innovation” and “process innovation”. Hypersensitivity dermatitides (HD) are commonly seen in cats, and they are usually caused by environmental, food and/or flea allergens. Affected cats normally present with one of the following clinical reaction patterns: head and neck excoriations, usually symmetrical self-induced alopecia, eosinophilic skin lesions or miliary dermatitis. Importantly, none of these clinical presentations is considered to be pathognomonic for HD skin diseases, and the diagnosis of HD is usually based on the exclusion of other pruritic diseases and on a positive response to therapy. The objectives of this study were to propose sets of criteria for the diagnosis of nonflea-induced HD (NFHD). We recruited 501 cats with pruritus and skin lesions and compared clinical parameters between cats with NFHD (encompassing those with nonflea, nonfood HD and those with food HD), flea HD and other pruritic conditions. Using simulated annealing techniques, we established two sets of proposed criteria for the following two different clinical situations: (i) the diagnosis of NFHD in a population of pruritic cats; and (ii) the diagnosis of NFHD after exclusion of cats with flea HD. These criteria sets were associated with good sensitivity and specificity and may be useful for homogeneity of enrolment in clinical trials and to evaluate the probability of diagnosis of NFHD in clinical practice. Finally, these criteria were not useful to differentiate cats with NFHD from those with food HD.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine the frequency of carriage of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus pseudintermedius (MRSP) among dogs admitted to a small animal hospital during a 17-month period, to characterize these isolates and to initially screen for possible factors associated with MRSP carriage. Swabs were taken from the nose/pharynx and the perineum as well as from wounds and skin infections (if present) of 814 dogs before entering the small animal hospital. A questionnaire for background information was completed. The staphylococcal species and methicillin resistance were confirmed pheno- and genotypically. The identified MRSP isolates were characterized by SCCmec typing, testing for susceptibility to 25 antimicrobial agents and SmaI-directed pulsed-field gel electrophoresis. A first screening for possible risk factors for MRSP carriage was performed by means of unifactorial contingency tables and CART analysis. Sixty (7.4%) dogs were positive for MRSP. All MRSP isolates harboured a type II-III SCCmec cassette and showed extended resistance to antimicrobial agents. Fifteen different SmaI patterns were observed. The major factors that clustered with MRSP carriage were former hospitalization and antibiotic treatment within the last six months before sampling. This study showed that only a minor part of the sampled dogs carried multi-resistant MRSP isolates. The facts that prior hospitalization and/or antibiotic therapy are potential associated factors for MRSP carriage underline the necessity of a judicious use of antibiotics in small animal medicine.  相似文献

Although echocardiography has greatly improved the diagnostic possibilities in equine medicine, determining the prognosis remains a difficult task. In humans, maximal cardiac power output (CPO) has been described as a powerful indicator of exercise capability and outcome in heart disease. The aim of the study is to describe the measurement of CPO by echocardiography and by thermodilution in healthy horses. Six healthy horses were studied. Cardiac output (CO) was measured by thermodilution and Doppler echocardiography at rest and during a pharmacologic stress test consisting of 35 μg/kg atropine followed by incremental steps 2, 4, 6, and 8 μg/kg/min of dobutamine infusion. Mean arterial pressure (MAP) was measured invasively by a catheter introduced into the transverse facial artery. CPO was calculated as the product of CO and MAP. Baseline CPO measured by thermodilution and by Doppler echocardiography was 10.7 ± 3.3 and 13.7 ± 4.5 watts, respectively. CPO increased significantly with pharmacologic stimulation and reached maximal CPO of 66.4 ± 3.6 and 60.4 ± 5.1 watts when measured by thermodilution and Doppler echocardiography, respectively. This study describes an estimation of CPO in horses. Further studies should demonstrate the usefulness of CPO as a predictive indicator in horses suffering from cardiac disease.  相似文献
