Studies about nitrogen (N) mineralization and nitrification in deep soil layers are rare because N processes are considered to occur mainly in topsoil that hosts active and diverse microbial communities. This study aimed to measure the soil potential net N mineralization (PNM) and nitrification (PNN) down to 4 m depth and to discuss factors controlling their variability. Twenty-one soil cores were collected at the Restinclières agroforestry experimental site, where 14-year-old hybrid walnut trees were intercropped with durum wheat. Soil cores were incubated in the dark in the laboratory at both 6 and 25°C. The soil was a deep calcic fluvisol with a fluctuating water table. It featured a black layer that was very rich in organic matter and permanently water saturated at depths between 3.0 and 4.0 m. The mean soil mineral N content was 3 mg N kg−1 soil in the upper 0.0–0.2 m layer, decreasing until a depth of 2 m and increasing to the maximum value of 25.8 mg N kg−1 soil in the black layer. While nitrate (NO3−) was the dominant form of mineral N (89%) in the upper 0.0–0.2 m layer, its proportion progressively decreased with depth until ammonium (NH4+) became almost the only form of mineral N (97%) in the saturated black layer. Laboratory soil incubation revealed that PNM and PNN occurred at all depths, although the latter remained low at 6°C. The soil nitrate content in the black layer was multiplied by 48 times after 51 days of incubation at 25°C, whereas it was almost inexistent at the sampling date. While the soil total N, the pH and the incubation temperature explained 84% of the variation in PNM, only 29% of the percent nitrification variance was explained by the incubation temperature (Tinc) and the soil C-to-N ratio. Summary Common wheat cultivar Virest possesses mildew resistance which is different from resistances expressed by currently documented mildew resistance genes, detected by response to eleven differential wheat powdery mildew isolates. F2 populations from hybrids of the 21 Chinese Spring monosomic lines with Virest revealed one major dominant gene, located on wheat chromosome 1D. The new gene is designated Pm22. A total of 59 old wheat cultivars grown in Germany prior to 1960 were tested for mildew response using a collection of 12 differential isolates of Erysiphe graminis DC f. sp. tritici Marchal (Blumeria graminis (DC) Speer f. sp. tritici). Nineteen cultivars did not possess any major resistance gene and 25 were characterized by susceptible or intermediate responses. Fifteen cultivars revealed isolate-specific response patterns that could not be attributed to known major resistance genes or gene combinations. Many of the old German cultivars inherited a mildew-resistance gene from the Canadian cultivar ‘Garnet’ which is tentatively designated M1-Ga. Cultivars ‘Bretonischer Bartweizen’ (designated M1-Br) and ‘Adlungs Alemannen’ (designated M1-Ad) appeared to carry unknown resistance genes. Among 18 winter wheat cultivars released in the former GDR. eight showed susceptibility to all isolates used. Cv. “Borenos” carries resistance gene Pm3c. Five cultivars possess gene Pm4b. two cultivars gene pm5 and one cultivar a combination of genes Pm2 and Pm4b. Cultivar ‘Zentos’ was resistant to almost all isolates used. A total of 26 common wheat cultivars and advanced breeding lines grown in China were tested with a set of 11 differential powdery-mildew isolates. Seven cultivars were susceptible. Another seven cultivars showed the response pattern of resistance gene Pm2, either individually or in combination with genes Pm3d or Pm4a. Five cultivars expressed the resistance of gene Pm4b singly or in combination with Pm6. Another four cultivars exhibited the response patterns of genes Pm5, Pm6 and Pm8, respectively. The isotropic magnetic moment of a free atom is shown to develop giant magnetic anisotropy energy due to symmetry reduction at an atomically ordered surface. Single cobalt atoms deposited onto platinum (111) are found to have a magnetic anisotropy energy of 9 millielectron volts per atom arising from the combination of unquenched orbital moments (1.1 Bohr magnetons) and strong spin-orbit coupling induced by the platinum substrate. By assembling cobalt nanoparticles containing up to 40 atoms, the magnetic anisotropy energy is further shown to be dependent on single-atom coordination changes. These results confirm theoretical predictions and are of fundamental value to understanding how magnetic anisotropy develops in finite-sized magnetic particles. 相似文献

Nutritional Enhancement of n-3 and n-6 Fatty Acids in Rotifers and Artemia Nauplii by Feeding Spray-dried Schizochytrium sp. 总被引:3,自引:0,他引:3
A docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), 22:6(n-3), rich strain of Schizochytrium sp. was used in a spray-dried form to evaluate the enhancement of highly unsaturated fatty acids (HUFAs) in Artemia franciscana nauplii (Utah biotype) and the rotifer Brachionus plicatilis . This heterotrophic microalga was selected because of its high concentration of the longest chain HUFAs in the n-3 and n-6 series, DHA and docosapentaenoic acid (DPA), 22:5(n-6), respectively. When 24-h-old Artemia nauplii were fed 400 mg/L of the algae for 24 h, the DHA content of the nauplii went from undetectable levels to 0.8% of dry weight and the omega-3 HUFA eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA), 20:5n-3, content went from 0.1% to 0.5% of dry weight in the nauplii. Similarly, 22:5(n-6) increased in the nauplii from undetectable levels to 0.4% of dry weight, with a concomitant increase in arachidonic acid, (20:4n-6), from trace to 0.3% of dry weight even though there was no arachidonic acid in the algal biomass. Similar enrichment patterns were observed in rotifers. The results suggest that spray-dried cells of Schizochytrium sp. are effective in enriching Artemia naupli and rotifers in both n-3 and n-6 HUFAs. The results also suggest that Artemia nauplii and rotifers are capable of readily retroconverting 22:6(n-3) to 20:5(n-3) and 22:5(n-6) to 20:4(n-6) through the process of β-oxidation, a well-known process in mammals. 相似文献

The contribution of the diploid wheat species Aegilops tauschii (Coss.) Schmall to the technological properties of bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) was previously studied by the investigation of synthetic hexaploids derived from tetraploid durum wheat (T. turgidum L.) and three diploid Ae. tauschii lines. The results indicated that bread volume, gluten index, SDS‐sedimentation volume, and maximum resistance of gluten were significantly influenced by the Ae. tauschii lines. To determine the relationship between technological properties and qualitative and quantitative compositions of gluten proteins, the flours of parental and synthetic lines were extracted using a modified Osborne fractionation. Gliadin and glutenin fractions were then characterized by reversed‐phase (RP) HPLC on C8 silica gel. The HPLC patterns revealed typical differences between synthetic and parental lines. The gliadin patterns of three synthetic lines and the glutenin patterns of two synthetic lines were more similar to that of the diploid Ae. tauschii parents involved in the hybrids. In the glutenin pattern of one synthetic line, characteristics from both Ae. tauschii and the durum wheat parents were observed. The amount of total gliadin and gliadin types of the synthetic lines was mostly intermediate between those of the durum and Ae. tauschii parents. The amounts of total glutenin and glutenin types (HMW and LMW subunits) of the synthetic lines were generally higher than those of the parental lines, and the ratio of gliadins to glutenins was significantly decreased. High positive correlations were found between the amount of total glutenins, HMW, and LMW subunits and bread volume, maximum resistance and extension area of gluten, and SDS‐sedimentation volume. The ratio of gliadins to glutenin subunits had a strong negative influence on these properties. The protein content of the flours and the amount of total gluten proteins were not correlated with any of the technological properties. Results on the relationship between biochemical characteristics and the breadmaking properties indicated that wheat prebreeding would benefit from studies on protein types and quantification in the choice of parents. In addition, the potential of the diploid Ae. tauschii for improvement of breadmaking quality should be further exploited. 相似文献
