The metabolism of exogenous glucose-14C in the light and the dark was studied in the detached leaves of tomato plants grown with ammonium nitrogen and nitrate nitrogen. In the light, 14CO2, release and incorporation of glucose into insoluble materials were hardly affected at all by the nitrogen sources. Among the soluble labelled amino acids, serine had the greatest amount of label in the ammonium-plants while aspartate had the greatest amount in the nitrate-plants. This aspartate was synthesized from C3-compounds by carboxylation. During dark-light transition, the change in the composition of soluble amino acids was more rapid in the ammonium-plants than in the nitrate-plants. In the dark, 14CO2-release, which was ten times as much as in the light, was larger in the ammonium-plants than in the nitrate-plants; but the synthesis of high molecular compounds from glucose in the ammonium-plants was about half that in the nitrate-plants. So, it is considered that respiration operates sufficiently in the ammonium-plants. The effects of DCMU and a 100% O2 atmosphere on glucose metabolism in both groups of plants were studied and the respiration of leaves in the light was discussed. 相似文献

The present study was conducted to understand the pattern of variation and the genetic bases for cold tolerance at the early
growth stage in Asian rice. The genetic variation was investigated at the germination, plumule and seedling stages among 57
strains including cultivated rice (Oryza sativa ssp. indica and ssp. japonica) and its wild progenitor (Oryza rufipogon). The significant differentiation of cold tolerance was observed among the taxonomically divided groups. At the germination
stage, both indica and japonica subspecies tended to be more tolerant than O. rufipogon, whereas at the plumule and seedling stages, ssp. japonica tended to be more tolerant than ssp. indica and O. rufipogon. Furthermore, in cold tolerance at the plumule stage, the clinal variation across the latitude of origins was observed within
O. rufipogon and ssp. japonica, suggesting that the current pattern of variation seems to have been shaped by both their phylogenetic histories and on-going

We analyzed data from 28 long-term experimental monitoring plots installed in Japanese cedar (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) plantations in northeastern Japan to examine how site productivity and thinning practices relate to culmination in
stand growth. Site productivity and thinning practices in the plots were evaluated by site index (dominant tree height at
40-years old) and by cumulative thinning rate (cumulative thinning volume divided by cumulative gross production during the
entire period of measurement). Culmination of stand growth was evaluated by culmination age of the mean annual increment (MAI)
and its maximum value (Max MAI). Max MAI for the mean annual gross increment (MAIgross) and mean annual net increment (MAInet)
increased with increasing site index, but did not change with cumulative thinning rate. Culmination age for MAIgross decreased
with increasing site index, but did not change with cumulative thinning rate. Culmination age for MAInet decreased with increasing
site index. Additionally, culmination age for MAInet increased with increasing cumulative thinning rate in sites with a high
site index (>19.3 m) but not in those with a low site index (<19.3 m). These results indicate that thinning extends the culmination
age without changing Max MAInet under high site productivity. Therefore, thinning increases total net yield in sites with

The aim of the present study was to optimise the culture conditions for the in vitro production of bovine embryos. The development of in vitro fertilised bovine oocytes in CR1aa supplemented with 5% calf serum and IVD101 culture media were compared using traditional microdrops and Well of the Well (WOW) culture systems either under 5% or 20% oxygen tension. After 7 days of culture, a significantly higher blastocyst formation rate was obtained for embryos cultured in CR1aa medium compared to those cultured in IVD101, irrespective of O2 tensions and culture systems. The blastocyst formation in IVD101 was suppressed under 20% O2 compared to 5% O2 . Despite their similar total cell numbers, higher rates of inner cell mass (ICM) cells were observed in blastocysts developed in IVD101 medium than in those developed in CR1aa, irrespective of O2 tensions. There was no significant difference in blastocyst formation, total, ICM and trophectoderm (TE) cell numbers between embryos obtained by microdrop and WOW culture systems irrespective of the culture media and O2 tensions used. In conclusion, CR1aa resulted in higher blastocyst formation rates irrespective of O2 tension, whereas IVD101 supported blastocyst formation only under low O2 levels but enhanced the proliferation of ICM cells. 相似文献

An unknown disease abruptly appeared on hydroponic cultures of common ice plant (Mesembryanthemum crystallinum) in the greenhouse, causing catastrophic damage. Although the symptoms of the plant were unlike typical Botrytis lesions on leaves and stems of other plants, fungi isolated from the necrotic lesions on the plant were similar to genus
Botrytis in terms of conidial shape, colony color and nature. A representative isolate, Ice-2, caused similar symptoms on the host plants after inoculation with conidia, and the same
fungus was isolated from the lesions. The conidia and conidiophores of Ice-2 were morphologically similar to those of B. cinerea but not to those of B.
allii, B. fabae or B. squamosa. The tested Botrytis fungi grew at temperatures between 5 and 30°C. Ice-2 grew faster than the others at the lower end of the temperature range.
Ice-2 was also more virulent than B. cinerea (Bay-1) in artificial inoculations, especially on common ice plant leaves. The glyceraldehyde-3-phosphate dehydrogenase gene
(G3PDH) sequence of Ice-2 was determined and compared with those from four Botrytis species. The gene sequence of Ice-2 appeared to be identical to that of B. cinerea. In leaf tests on common ice plant and kidney bean, the diseases caused by Ice-2 and Bay-1 were controlled equally well by

Relaxin‐like factor (RLF), also known as insulin‐like factor 3 (INSL3), is produced by testicular Leydig cells, but its specific receptor LGR8 (leucine‐rich repeat family of G‐protein‐coupled receptor 8) has not been identified in goats. This study aimed to identify complementary DNA (cDNA) sequences of goat LGR8, and characterize the expression of both RLF and LGR8 in goat testes by RT‐PCR and immunohistochemistry. Testes were collected from immature (3‐month‐old) and mature (24‐month‐old) Saanen goats, and partial cDNA sequences of the goat homologue of human LGR8 were identified. The sequence encoded a reduced peptide sequence of 167 amino acids, which corresponded to transmembrane regions 2 through 5, followed by the beginning of intracellular loop 3 of human LGR8. Expression of both LGR8 and RLF genes was drastically increased in mature testes compared with immature ones. Although RLF protein was restricted to Leydig cells, LGR8 protein was detected in both Leydig cells and seminiferous epithelial cells (possibly germ cells and Sertoli cells). These results reveal a possible existence of the RLF‐LGR8 ligand‐receptor system within the goat testis, suggesting that RLF may play a role in testicular function through LGR8 on Leydig cells and seminiferous epithelial cells in an autocrine and/or paracrine manner. 相似文献

(1) Seven hydroxyanthraquinone pigments were separated from Sochiken soil 1 (Kuroboku soil). Chrysotalunin, chrysophanoi, chrysazin, and skyrln were identified by spectroscopy and co-chromatography with authentic compounds. The presence of oxyskyrin was presumed by spectroscopy and color reactions. (2) A homologue of 4,9-dihydroxyperylene-3, 10-quinone was also detected. (3) The amounts of hydroxyanthraqulnones in eight soils of different types were determined by colorimetry using chrysotalunin as a standard pigment. Their amounts varied from 3 to 11 ppm. In the olfactory organ of lungfish, recesses at the bases of lamellae comprise sensory and nonsensory epithelia. The sensory epithelium of the recesses, the recess epithelium, is distinguished from the olfactory epithelium covering the lamella by the absence of ciliated olfactory receptor cells. Therefore, it has been suggested that the recess epithelium is a primordium of the vomeronasal organ of tetrapods. However, developmental changes in the number and distribution of recesses in the olfactory organ of lungfish were unknown. We examined four Protopterus aethiopicus specimens of body lengths 215–800 mm to determine the localization of recesses in their olfactory organs. Histological examination showed recesses at the bases of lamellae in all individuals examined. The recesses were localized mainly in the medial and caudal parts of the olfactory organs, especially in juveniles. Compared to smaller fish, larger fish had a larger number of recesses, distributed more broadly in their olfactory organs. Significance of the recess localization and its relationship to the function of lungfish olfactory organ warrants further investigation. 相似文献
